The verger team is at the heart of Cathedral life – making sure the main Cathedral building is presented in the best way at all times and that the Chapter House and other buildings are prepared for use to a high standard. The broad range of services and events held at Chelmsford Cathedral require accurate planning, teamwork and communication.
Stamina and energy are therefore essential, sometimes at unsociable hours; this is very much a ‘hands on’ role. Vergers participate fully in the worshipping life of the Cathedral, they take responsibility for the day-to-day preparation of the Cathedral’s regular and special services, as well as playing an important part within them.
This role is essential to the smooth running of the many different activities held at Chelmsford Cathedral. A Verger’s presence, demeanour and presentation style reflects the welcome and hospitality the Cathedral chapter wish to offer to everyone who visits, whether they come for worship, for an event, or to view the building.

Interim Finance and Resource Director

We are helping a university students' union find a new Finance and Resource Director as they embark on a period of restructure in the Senior Leadership Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a strategic finance leader to join a complex, values-driven organisation in Hull. The role is offered on a 9-month fixed term contract basis with an anticipated start date of early-mid January 2026. The organisation is happy to consider applicants on a part-time basis (min 3 days per week) or on a full-time basis. Hybrid working is offered with at least 50% of the role expected to be office based.

Position Overview
As the Finance and Resource Director, you will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team. You will provide strategic leadership across Finance, Facilities, and Health and Safety. Your role is vital to ensuring the organisation has the resources to deliver its strategic plan sustainably. You will work closely with the CEO, Trustees, and elected Presidents to drive commercial performance and support the organisation's mission.
Responsibilities
• Lead operational strategy for finance, facilities, and health & safety.
• Develop and deliver the group's long-term financial plan.
• Provide strategic financial guidance to the CEO and Boards.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and annual financial reporting.
• Lead on the production on the annual statutory accounts.
• Manage key relationships with auditors, banks, HMRC, and the external management accountants.
• Ensure robust financial governance and risk management.
• Lead on contract negotiations and ethical investment strategy.
• Champion and role-model the organisation's inclusive culture.
Requirements
• A recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or CIPFA).
• Significant senior leadership and management experience.
• Proven experience in strategic financial planning and reporting.
• Experience in developing systems and leading organisational change.
• Excellent communication skills, able to present to board level.
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
• A genuine empathy with the values of a student-led organisation.
• Experience in the charity or higher education sector is desirable.

About the Charity
Opening in early 2026, Base71 - Barnsley Youth Zone will be a game-changer for Barnsley, a place where thousands of local young people will come to discover who they are, what they love, and what's possible. It will be the first Youth Zone in Yorkshire, part of the phenomenal OnSide network of national Youth Zones changing lives across the UK.

About the Role
Working closely with the Chief Executive and senior leadership team, you'll lead the development and delivery of a bold, creative and high-performing fundraising and communications strategy to generate £1.4m annually.
You'll grow and nurture a portfolio of committed individuals and local businesses (founder patrons). You'll also build new income streams across trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, and major donor giving.
At the same time, you'll oversee all things brand, PR and communications, with a talented Communications Manager in place to help you raise awareness and build strong community relationships ahead of launch and beyond.
This is a leadership role with legacy. You'll inspire Barnsley's business community, philanthropists and champions to believe in and back the potential of their town's young people.
About You

- A proven track record of personally securing five-figure+ gifts from corporates or major donors or equivalent from the commercial sector.
