Urban Youth is a new youth work charity being established to provide engaging youth work activities, offer positive mentorship, and create safe spaces where young people can thrive and reach their full potential in London. We're currently in the crucial setup phase, and we need your help to connect with our audience and build a vibrant online presence.

We're looking for a dedicated Volunteer for Communications & Social Media to help us spread our reach, attract young people to our programmes, and encourage vital support through donations and volunteering. What will you do?

In this pivotal role, you'll help us tell the Urban Youth story and engage our community online.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Audience Engagement: Helping to manage our social media channels, responding to comments, and fostering a positive online community.

• Campaign Support: Assisting with the creation and execution of digital campaigns to recruit young people for our programmes, encourage volunteering, and drive donations.

• Website & Newsletter Support: Contributing to basic website updates or helping to draft content for initial newsletters and email communications.

• Strategy Input: Providing ideas and insights into our overall communications and social media strategy to maximise our reach and impact.

Who are we looking for?

We need someone who is not only passionate about empowering young people but also brings practical skills and creativity in digital communications.

You should be:

• Social Media Savvy: Experienced with various social media platforms and understand what makes content engaging.

• Creative Thinker: Able to generate fresh ideas for content and campaigns.

• Strong Communicator: Excellent written communication skills; able to craft clear, concise, and compelling messages.

• Detail-Oriented: Able to maintain brand consistency and accuracy in all communications.

• Proactive & Reliable: Someone who can take initiative and manage tasks independently.

• Committed: Willing to dedicate a few hours a week (flexible, can often be done remotely) to help us build Urban Youth from the ground up. Experience with graphic design tools (like Canva) or video editing is a bonus!

This is a voluntary, unremunerated role, but it offers invaluable experience in charity communications, digital marketing, and the immense satisfaction of directly enabling a new organisation to make a profound difference in countless young lives.

Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

About the Role
We are seeking a volunteer Head of HR to lead and oversee our HR function at a pivotal time in YouthAdvantage UK’s ambition to become a registered charity.
Reporting into the Chief People Officer, you’ll provide strategic leadership to a multi-layered HR structure, directly managing our HRBP Lead and HR Managers, and overseeing five core teams that support the organisation’s people and culture strategy.

What We're Looking For
We’re looking for someone who’s experienced enough to hit the ground running and humble enough to grow with us.
You’ll be most successful in this role if you have:
•Solid operational HR experience, ideally across generalist and specialist areas such as recruitment, employee relations/law, L&D, and policy.
•Previous line management experience, with a demonstrable record of supporting and developing HR team members or volunteers.
•A practical, sleeves-rolled-up approach - someone who is hands-on, accessible, and able to get things done in a busy, volunteer-led environment.
•A strategic mindset, but also the willingness to dig into day-to-day HR activity and problem-solving.
•A collaborative, coaching-ready attitude - this is a great opportunity for someone who has enough experience to stand on their own feet, but is open to being coached by the Chief People Officer to further develop their leadership style.
•Good communication and people skills, with the ability to work across different functions and with a wide range of volunteers.
•An interest in or understanding of the third sector and volunteer engagement is a bonus, but not essential.
•Experience working remotely or in hybrid teams is helpful.
•Above all, a genuine passion for youth empowerment and a belief in what we’re building at YouthAdvantage UK.

As a Community Workshop Assistant volunteer, you will be an invaluable part of the Birmingham team, supporting the hub to deliver frontline services. This role is an exciting and new opportunity to make a real difference within the wider community.

The accessible workshops are delivered primarily out in the community to Shelter clients and professionals however we may also deliver these by Microsoft Teams. The aim is to help empower clients to understand their rights and provide necessary support and signposting in areas such as temporary accommodation and budgeting. You will play a supportive role, helping the Housing Rights Worker deliver these workshops and being part of the development of future workshops. 

In addition, you’ll be developing your own knowledge and skills to support local people with a range of housing issues as well as providing practical support within the workshop. You will gain experience of volunteering within a recognised national housing charity, while supporting your local community. 

Suggested Involvement: Approximately one day per month (can be more & can be flexible around your commitments) 

Availability: This volunteering opportunity will take place within our working hours, Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm. 

Location: Shelter Birmingham 38 Priory Queensway, Maple House, Birmingham, B4 7LA but this role will be within the local community.

• Supporting the Housing Rights Worker to facilitate the workshop

Skills and experience required 

• An interest in social welfare e.g. housing, welfare benefits, debt. 

• Good communication skills (this may be through experience of working with the public) 

• Ability to collaborate with a team. 

• Confident using IT including Microsoft Office programmes

A home is a fundamental human need, as vital as education or healthcare. But in Britain today, that right is denied to millions of people whose lives are blighted by homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. The time for change is now.

As a Client and Stakeholder Feedback Volunteer, you’ll be supporting the day-to-day work of Shelter’s and providing updates on client's experiences. Volunteers are essential to Shelter’s mission to end housing injustice. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. The insights and life experience our volunteers bring to Shelter are valued as much as their contribution through volunteering. 

We aim to provide our volunteers with a positive experience. This is by prioritising accessibility and tailoring the support we provide to the needs of the individual. We make sure our policies and processes are equitable, which means that no-one is unfairly disadvantaged while volunteering because of their background or identity. 

Main Tasks include 

• Make follow-up phone calls to stakeholder and clients after they have accessed our services to gather feedback from them. 

• Ask set questions when speaking with stakeholders and clients to see if and how advice has made a difference to them and record their responses. 

• Assessing and adding in quantitative and qualitative data to our client database (CRM). 

• Present the responses in an accessible format e.g. using Word or Excel. 

• Identify key findings and/or trends and discuss with relevant team member(s) 

• Provide insight into improvements for the activities involved 

Skills and experience required 

The aim of the post is to gather information and feedback regarding the service we offer and the impact this has made. Therefore, we are looking for somebody who is:

• Comfortable interacting with stakeholders in person and over the telephone 

• Is considerate of tone and language during interactions. 

• Has good listening skills. 

• Has strong written skills and the ability to take detailed and accurate notes of the discussion whilst on the telephone or in person. 

• Has good IT skills, including experience using MS Office software such as Excel and Forms. 

• Is resilient to potentially challenging conversations, while understanding the boundaries of the role.

• Provide access to our learning on data protection, safeguarding and screen wellness as well as other appropriate role specific training.

This role will allow us to see the effects of the housing advice and workshop delivery received by clients and professionals and if there are any additional impacts such as increased sense of stability or more confidence in their rights. 

This role is an opportunity to make a real difference to the households we assist. You’ll be developing your own knowledge and skills to support local people with a range of housing issues. You will gain experience of volunteering within a recognised national housing charity, while supporting your local community.
