The Role This role is all about helping people on their journey to better mental health by tackling the practical issues that can get in the way—things like debt, housing, employment, and relationships. As our Mental Health Caseworker, you’ll be based in a hospital setting, offering advice and support to people experiencing mental ill health. You’ll be part of a wider network of projects across Hampshire, building on a successful pilot at Melbury Lodge in Winchester.

As our Mental Health Caseworker, your work will focus on:

• Supporting inpatients at Antelope House and Forest Lodge, by identifying and addressing a wide range of advice needs—both while they’re in hospital and after they’ve been discharged.
• Building strong relationships with hospital staff, helping the project become a trusted and valued part of the support available.
• Working closely with partner organisations to make sure clients get the right help at the right time, and are connected to other sources of support when needed.
• Shaping and improving the service model—you’ll help test and refine how we deliver this support, using feedback and learning to make it even more effective.
• Ensuring no one falls through the cracks by developing ways to continue supporting clients after they leave hospital.

About You

We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about making a difference, especially for people experiencing mental ill health. You don’t need to have worked with Citizens Advice before; if you’re new to advice delivery, we’ll provide full training and support to help you thrive in the role.

You’ll need to be a strong communicator with experience of supporting people with mental health conditions, and the empathy and motivation to provide expert advice to people experiencing mental ill health.

The service provides 24 hours supported accommodation for high needs mental health service users. It compromises of 11 units which offers higher levels of 
support in comparison to the wider supported living pathway. Service users at Teresa House may have treatment resistant mental health needs that are complicated by substance misuse, challenging behaviour including low level offending and long-term physical health conditions. All support is delivered in-line with the principles of trauma-informed recovery/empowerment/co-production.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting people with mental health and complex needs, with substance misuse experience desirable. They should have a strong understanding of recovery approaches and co-production, with the ability to design and deliver activities that build confidence, reduce anxiety, and support a self-directed recovery journey.

They must be resilient, maintaining high service standards in challenging situations, and have knowledge of legislation relevant to mental health crises, including welfare reform, the Care Act, and housing pathways. Skills in assessment, co-producing support and safety plans, and auditing them are essential.

Proficiency in MS Office and case management systems is required, along with good knowledge of basic building safety and repairs. The candidate should have excellent spoken and written English, be able to handle petty cash accurately, and work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

· Contribute to regular service reviews which include monitoring data, evaluations, intake and output policy, and practice and work load reviews for the whole service.

· Attend monthly case management meeting with the Service Manager .

· Attend clinical supervision.

Recording and administration

· Ensure that case files and records are accurate and complete, and are kept and in compliance with Data Protection Act requirements.

· To enter all the required information into the Drive project electronic case management system to enable tracking of service user change, multi-agency working and risk management.

· Weekly maintenance and accurate and secure audit trail of all relevant communication.

· Comply with the data protection and information sharing protocols that Drive has agreed to.

Direct work with service users

· Maintain a proactive response to service users, continuously providing positive options for behaviour change throughout the service users time in the Drive project

· Use combination of motivational work, relationship building and a broad range of therapeutic skills to engage service users to addressing their abusive behaviour

· Motivate and support service users to address the broad range of needs that may contribute to the risk that they pose to others or act as barrier for them in addressing that risk. e.g. housing, substance use etc.

· To ensure that service users understand that the community and Drive project will ensure that they are accountable for continued use of abuse and abusive behaviour towards others

· Ensure that there is a consistent delivery of services to the identified perpetrators of domestic abuse, including comprehensive risk assessment, support planning, referrals to other agencies and MARACs.

· Develop strategies that will disrupt the continued risk posed by service users

· Undertake assessment of risk, needs and attitudes to inform the individual

service user’s intervention plan

· Ensure that risk assessment and risk management procedures are followed at all times.

· Respect and value the diversity of the community in which the service works in, providing a service that recognises the diverse needs of service users and their families.

· Work closely with the IDVAs’ supporting the partners, ex-partners and new partners, and family members of service users in management risk and developing intervention plans, as set out in the Drive Manual.

· The welfare and safety of children and young people is paramount, considered in every aspect of your work, address parenting needs where appropriate and taking action to safeguard children.

General

· Remain up-to-date and compliant with all relevant legislation connected to your work, including organisational procedures, policies and professional codes of conduct and practice guidance, in order to uphold standards of best practice.

· Feed into the learning process via the Service to improve services to perpetrators of domestic abuse ensuring that the experiences of service users and other agencies inform this process.

• Experience and familiarity with Microsoft technologies including Windows Server, Entra ID, and Azure.

Tower Hamlets Solace Advocacy and Support Service (SASS) provides advocacy and support to survivors of DVA with the aim to reduce risk and harm. Our work is holistic and empowering, working alongside survivors to achieve independent lives free from abuse.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced IDVA to join our dynamic team in Tower Hamlets, working with people who have experienced domestic violence and abuse. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

As an IDVA you are responsible for carrying out risk and needs assessments, safety planning and providing support and intervention to victim/survivors of domestic violence identified at Poplar jobcentre. In addition to this you will build relationships with, and provide advice, guidance and training to external professionals.

About You

You will need a passion for working with victim/survivors and a thorough understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on women and their children, as well as experience of providing emotional and practical support and strong casework management skills.

You will have the skills to provide effective crisis intervention, carry out risk assessments, safety planning, assessment of needs and individual support planning. You should have demonstrable experience of working in an IDVA or similar position with this or a similar client group.
