• Join the Tavistock Relationships training programme

About the Programme

Building on the success of previous cohorts, NHS England is funding new opportunities starting September 2025.

This three-year programme offers:

• Full tuition coverage

• Specialist NHS Talking Therapies modality training in Couples Therapy for Depression (CtfD)

Important Eligibility Information

• These are training roles, and candidates must remain in the funded Recruit to Train post to retain their place on the course—and vice versa.

Course structure and requirements

The National Curriculum for High Intensity Psychotherapeutic Counselling within NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression outlines the full details of the course structure. To summarise, the following outlines the key training requirements:  

· A 1-year core psychotherapeutic counselling foundation level training, which also introduces the chosen NHS Talking Therapies modality. Following sign off for readiness, trainees can begin to practice at West London Centre for Counselling with people with mild to moderate depression

· Followed by, a 2-year post-graduate diploma (PGDip) in psychotherapeutic counselling (minimum 120 credits at Level 7)

· A minimum of 450 supervised client hours gained within a NHS Talking Therapies service

· A minimum of 450 training hours (skills and theory)  

· A minimum of 50 personal therapy hours  

· A minimum of 90 minutes of training supervision to every six hours of client work (or the equivalent for group supervision), or 90 minutes per week if they have completed less than six hours of client work in the week

· NHS Talking Therapy services will be responsible for supervision on site, including oversight of case management, clinical governance and management supervision in line with the supervision requirements of the NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression manual.

· An average of two to three days per week of clinical practice in NHS Talking Therapies services

· Individual accreditation (professional registration) with a professional body in line with the NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression manual (see the manual for more details)

Selection processes including shortlisting and interviews will be carried out jointly by West London Centre for Counselling and Tavistock Relationships (training provider). About the role

Location: South East London, a short walk from Peckham Rye station (with some flexible working)
Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 per annum, depending on experience
Contract: Temporary (strong possibility of a temporary to permanent transfer)
Hours: 35 hours per week

You’ll be the go-to person for all things finance, working closely with the Director of Finance and Operations. From processing day-to-day transactions to supporting annual audits, you’ll ensure their financial systems run smoothly and in line with best practice for charities. Your role will involve:

• Processing accounts payable and receivable with accuracy and timeliness.
• Preparing monthly management accounts and variance analysis.
• Managing staff expenses and ensuring policy compliance.
• Assisting with budgets, forecasts, VAT returns, Gift Aid claims and payroll.
• Reconciling bank accounts and ensuring financial records are audit-ready.
• Tracking restricted and unrestricted funding streams to meet donor reporting requirements.

About you
You’ll bring at least two years’ experience in a financial role (ideally within a charity) and a working knowledge of VAT, Gift Aid and managing diverse funding streams. You’ll have:

• Great attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Confidence with Excel and ideally Xero.
• A knack for explaining financial matters clearly to non-finance colleagues.
• A proactive, problem-solving mindset and a collaborative approach.

An AAT qualification (or equivalent) would be great, but what really matters is your ability to keep the finances watertight while sharing their passion for the mission.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional teams spanning Finance, Governance, IT, Health & Safety, and Facilities, ensuring effective systems and practices are in place. Act as a strategic partner in support of executive decision-making.

Requirements

• A qualified accountant with significant experience in senior leadership roles, within the not-for-profit sector.
• Strong track record in strategic financial planning and working closely with Boards; in-depth knowledge of Charity SORP, experience preparing statutory accounts, and sound understanding of charity law and regulatory frameworks, including company secretarial responsibilities.
• Proven experience of managing central services, including governance, IT, infrastructure, health & safety, and facilities functions.
• A strategic, adaptable leader with experience driving organisational change, implementing new ways of working, and developing effective, resilient teams through periods of transformation.
• Commercially astute and technically skilled, with excellent interpersonal, facilitation, negotiation, and influencing abilities; able to build trust and inspire high performance.
