About YAUK

Youth Advantage UK is a charitable organization that uses a research-led approach to inform policy work and projects that aim to promote and further the human rights of young people aged 11 to 25 across the United Kingdom.

Please note that this is a remote VOLUNTEER role.

We won't accept applications from individuals residing outside of the UK as we operate on the principle of bettering the lives of young people in the UK. Therefore, we require our volunteers to have an understanding of what it is like to live in the UK.

Responsibilities

• As the Senior HR Officer in our Volunteer Relations team, you will be reporting directly to the HR Manager, as well as oversee the day-to-day management of volunteer relations across our organisation, ensuring the  smooth execution of policies and adherence to the Volunteer Handbook. Your role involves being the primary point of contact for volunteers, addressing queries, and resolving issues promptly while upholding the organisation’s standards and values.

• You will also play a key role in fostering a professional and supportive environment for all volunteers, maintaining productive relationships, and ensuring operational excellence in volunteer management.

Duties

1. Exit Management

• Facilitate seamless volunteer offboarding processes, including conducting structured exit interviews to identify areas of improvement.
• Maintain accurate records of exits to inform retention and engagement strategies.
• Ensure compliance with organisational policies during volunteer departures.

2. Volunteer Inactivity Management

• Monitor volunteer activity levels and implement inactivity management procedures in collaboration with line managers.
• Maintain updated records to track and report volunteer activity trends.

3. Grievance and Conflict Resolution

• Implement and manage an efficient grievance procedure to handle volunteer concerns professionally and promptly.
• Ensure impartiality and transparency in addressing grievances, collaborating with relevant stakeholders for resolution.
• Collaborate with the L&D team to provide periodic training for volunteers and managers on grievance handling and conflict resolution.

4. Policy Execution and Compliance

• Act as the primary custodian of the Volunteer Handbook, ensuring volunteers are well-informed about organisational policies and procedures.
• Monitor compliance with organisational guidelines and address any violations in consultation with the HR Manager.
• Partner with the Policy team to update the Volunteer Handbook periodically to reflect regulatory changes and organisational needs.

5. Volunteer Relations

• Serve as the first point of contact for volunteers, addressing their queries and concerns to foster a positive environment.
• Actively promote inclusivity and diversity in all volunteer-related activities.

6. Compliance and Reporting

• Ensure all volunteer-related activities comply with organisational and legal standards.
• Prepare regular reports on the approved Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including challenges and support needed.

Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and oversight of the organisation’s financial strategy, ensuring alignment with its mission and objectives.
• Ensure full compliance with Community Interest Company (CIC) regulations and all relevant financial legislation.
• Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and the preparation of annual accounts.
• Advise the Board of Directors on financial planning, risk management, and investment opportunities.
• Manage the organisation’s financial obligations, including reporting to Companies House and HMRC.
• Oversee the management and monitoring of acquired funding, ensuring all funder and HMRC requirements are met.
• Act as a key signatory for bank accounts and investments, ensuring proper processes are followed.
• Develop and implement internal audit procedures and maintain robust financial controls.
• Establish and maintain policies and systems for effective financial management and reporting.
• Collaborate with the Board to develop and uphold the organisation’s reserves policy.
• Monitor and evaluate contracts and supplier relationships to ensure best value and compliance.
• Prepare financial projections and reports for funding applications, strategic planning, and Board meetings.
• Liaise with the organisation’s accountant and external auditors as required.

• Proven experience in financial management, accounting, or a related field

The difference you will make to cats and people

We have a huge breadth of volunteer roles at Cats Protection, including caring for cats, fundraising, in our shops and many more! We also need volunteers to help us be more efficient, effective and to ensure we comply with charity law and governance.  

The purpose of the Audit & Risk Committee is to assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its obligations in respect of financial and governance reporting, internal control and risk. Our Audit & Risk Committee volunteers contribute to a well-run organisation, and their time and expertise help our Committee work in the best, most effective way possible.

The Board of Trustees delegates authority to the Committee to oversee the Cats Protection financial reporting process. This ensures the balance, transparency and integrity of published financial information to:

• ensure that there is a framework for accountability
• examine systems and methods of control, with particular emphasis on risk management and the effective use of risk-based outsourced internal audit receive reports from external auditors and consider rotation of audit partners
• ensure that Cats Protection is complying with statutory and regulatory requirements and good practice
• ensure implementation of recommendations from internal and external auditors
• ensure ongoing objectivity and independence

Your role will also include:

• attending Committee meetings
• reading papers
• preparing for meetings
• raising appropriate challenge or concerns undertaking any actions required in the agreed timescales
• supporting the Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee
• keeping informed about the activities of the charity and wider issues affecting the charity and the Audit & Risk Committee in particular

Time expectation

Our Audit & Risk Committee meets three times a year (twice in person in London and once virtually) and our volunteers normally spend a total of three years in this role.

Governance 

Our Board is the ultimate governance body for the charity, serving as stewards of its resources, and ultimately responsible for our strategy, operations and financial management. Our board ensures we comply with our governing document, charity law and pursue our objectives. They are responsible for providing support, guidance and decisions to the CWB team, ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation. 

Trustees are elected for a 2-year term but with the opportunity to be re-elected. 

Trustee Responsibilities 

Strategy and Governance 

• Actively contribute to the Board of Trustees’ role in giving firm strategic direction to the charity, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets 
• Supporting high standards of governance and risk management 
• Ensuring the organisation is accountable and transparent in its activities 
• Ensuring compliance with relevant charitable and company legislation 
• Safeguarding the interests of Clowns Without Borders’s beneficiaries 

Advocacy 

• Acting as an ambassador for Clowns Without Borders
• Overseeing, and presenting budgets, accounts, and financial statements to the board 

Treasurer’s Responsibilities 

Overseeing the financial matters of the charity 

Ensuring proper accounts and records are kept 

Develop and/or review and implement financial and reserves policies 

• Be a point of contact and lead on issues relating to financial matters of the charity 

o Implementing and monitoring financial controls and ensuring relevant systems are in place 

o Liaising with charity’s director to ensure annual accounts are compliant with Charity Commission guidelines when necessary 

o Liaising with the charity’s independent examiner where appropriate. 

• Drive financial strategy and planning 

o Lead financial discussions with the board team 

o Present strategic options for future financial planning 

o Set up models to help other directors/trustees evaluate financial position and planning 

Expertise 

• Qualified UK Chartered Accountant 
• Knowledge and experience of current financial practices relevant to small charities 
• Strong financial management and strategic experience 
• Good financial analysis skills. 
• Ability to communicate clearly

Remuneration 

The position of Trustee is unpaid. However, all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred will be reimbursed in line with our Expenses Policy.
