About the role

This role within the Policy & Communications directorate gives an energetic, audience-focused individual the opportunity to use their creative flair to support the British Ecological Society’s strategic goal of greater collaboration and impact.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and with the support of the Communications team, this role will transform our digital channels and communications with reactive, creative content that engages and resonates with our audiences.

Working pattern
35hrs, Mon-Fri | We are currently running a trial of the 4-day work week; staff can opt to work 32hrs over 4 days each week at no loss of salary.
Location

Key Impact Areas

 Maximise Giving

You will implement a philanthropic giving strategy that significantly shifts the museums approach towards the generation of substantial philanthropic income and that supports the Museum's vision and mission. You will work collaboratively with the Executive, Board of Trustees and senior leadership team to establish a long-term plan and supporting fundraising strategies that align and help the museum move forward with its objectives.

 Cultivate and Steward Donors

You will actively cultivate and steward relationships with potential and existing donors, for major new, repeat and legacy gifts, significantly raising the profile of Beamish, generating excitement and a desire to support Beamish now and into the future across a range of projects.  These will be supported by stewardship plans that foster mutual trust to secure ongoing support. 

Reputation and Engagement

You will build the profile of the Museum through donor engagement.  You will personally manage a portfolio of prospective donors, guiding them through the cultivation process, and ultimately securing new funding. You will work closely with the CEO building new networks, opening new doors and linking with communities in support of the museum's philanthropic goals and furthering its reputation and that of the sector.

Successful Philanthropy Team

You will ensure a high performing team is in place that supports Beamish’s Philanthropic strategy, imbuing a culture of innovation and enterprise across the museum. The team will ensure day to day delivery of the function, including to trusts and grants, provide excellent customer service, and produce timely data to support and measure the impact of all giving.  The team will champion equality, diversity and sustainability and creating a strong culture of philanthropy throughout Beamish. 

Essential Qualities, Experience and Knowledge

• Significant experience working at a senior level, building strong relationships with supporters who can give at a six/seven figure level.
• Demonstrable extensive networks, including trusts and foundations, corporate partners and high net worth individuals.
• Personal track record of securing six figure donations from Trusts and Foundations
• An excellent communicator who can inspire staff, volunteers and colleagues in taking our philanthropic strategy forwards.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills including tact, sophistication and gravitas 
• ·Able to work collaboratively, engaging with colleagues to design robust project proposals and reporting, monitoring and evaluation systems
• Skilled in utilising financial information including project budgets

This role will support the delivery of our Impact and Evaluation strategy. This area of our work helps us to understand the impact of our grantmaking and creates and evaluates internal and external datasets to improve our work. Our Impact and Evaluation portfolio includes commissioning and undertaking new research, supporting our aim to publish studies on issues that affect children and young people living in poverty. 

We are a growing charity and our Impact and Evaluation department has a key role to play in the strategic and operational development of the charity as it grows. This role will support the delivery of that aim by working closely with the Impact and Evaluation Manager.

Responsibilities:

Data Collection: Assist with the collection and storage of research and survey data, including demographic data and outcomes indicators, employing quantitative and qualitative methods. Gather and engage with external open and government datasets. 

Database Administration: Retrieve and analyse datasets from internal databases, responding to requests for data from the team. Update and enter data into key dashboards to monitor trends and issues. 

Data Analysis: Assist with data analysis tasks, including cleaning and analysing quantitative data using software (e.g., Excel, PowerBI), as well as coding and analysing qualitative data using thematic analysis techniques.

Reporting and Presentations : Assist with the preparation of key reports, dashboards, and presentations summarising key findings, trends, and insights from impact and evaluation activities for fundraising purposes, including developing content for social media.

Evaluation Planning: Assist the implementation of evaluation plans for specific programs or initiatives. Contribute to planning large-scale projects, including the selection of appropriate evaluation methods, data collection tools, and evaluation frameworks.

Survey Administration: Assist with the design, administration, and analysis of surveys to gather feedback from grantees, staff, and other stakeholders. Monitor and act on grantee feedback, sharing relevant results with key staff.

Research Administration: Schedule and undertake interviews/focus groups, supported by the I&E Manager. Manage administrative activities such as contact with participants, transcription and coding.

Collaboration: Support the I&E Manager to collaborate with internal staff, research partners, and organisations in the sector to support evaluation activities.

We are looking for a Policy Officer within our Service Delivery Team. You will have demonstrable understanding of health and social care policy and related public policy developments in the UK, as well as an understanding of how policy decisions are influenced and made. You will have knowledge and experience of research and analysis relevant to health policy, as well as familiarity with and understanding of the core principles of both quantitative and qualitative research.

Salary: £40,708 - £43,615 per annum

Location: Oxford / hybrid working (up to full time from home, in line with Picker's remote and home working policy - must be based in the UK)

In this role, you will support the development and implementation of Picker's policy influencing strategy to make person centred health and social care a reality for everyone. You will be responsible for monitoring policy and political developments, promoting evidence-based policies to advanced person centred care and building and maintaining relationships within the health policy world. You will leave on the development of policy outputs including briefings, position statements and white papers, working with colleagues to build evidence and articulate Picker's messages.

This role

In this role, you will:

• Develop and maintain a good understanding of key health and social care policy and political developments
• Lead on or assist with a range of high-profile policy projects, including the planning and development of projects, and contributing to analysis, writing and publication.
• Identifying opportunities to contribute to public policy debates in health and social care, using evidence from Picker’s work and from the public domain to provide insightful thought leadership.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to support policy analysis, responsive policy work, and to enhance Picker’s external profile across various audiences.
• Lead on and assist with written outputs, such as topic-specific briefing papers, website copy, presentations and blog posts to communicate the findings of our work.
• Carry out literature reviews and rapid scans of data and evidence to scope public policy positions on a range of key issues.
• Present evidence and findings (both in writing and orally) about highly complex and sometimes contentious subjects to a wide range of audiences, ensuring an understanding of the subject and issues arising and enabling informed decision making
• Support the drafting of responses to consultations, policy briefings, and other public policy initiatives, including relevant third party publications.
• Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, partners, and collaborators relevant to our policy portfolio, including academic and health and social care policy communities.
• Work collaboratively with other teams, creating strong links between other programmes and projects, to promote the use of services, products and survey findings that improve the quality of healthcare.

What the job involves

This is an exciting new role in Prostate Cancer UK’s Health Information and Clinical Support team. The team delivers a wide range of high-quality services directly to anyone affected by prostate cancer or prostate disease, as well as supporting a range of activity charity-wide that requires clinical expertise.

Many men, and their friends and family, don’t know the risk factors of prostate cancer – and when they do, they don’t know what to do next. We want a world where every man over 45 in the UK understands their risk of prostate cancer and has the tools and information to navigate it. Our online risk checker is a good place to start, but this role will be a crucial additional source of information for men and their loved ones. 

As a Risk Information Officer, you’ll deliver the charity’s pilot Risk Information Service, providing information and support to men at risk of prostate cancer, and their loved ones, via the telephone. This is a non-clinical role, but you’ll discuss callers’ risk of prostate cancer along the lines of the predominant risk factors (age, ethnicity, family history and BRCA gene status). If necessary, you’ll also support them to seek a PSA blood test from their GP and on occasion routing callers who have more complex clinical questions back to the Specialist Nurse service.

You’ll play a key role in developing the pilot – contributing to conversations and decisions around how to adjust and improve the service in its early months. You’ll also report back on your calls, to help the charity develop its broader understanding of information and support needs when it comes to prostate cancer risk and the PSA blood test.

Reporting into the Clinical Services Senior Officer, you’ll have close and regular contact with assigned Specialist Nurses so that you feel at ease in sharing prostate cancer related information with callers, and in maintaining the boundaries and scope of the service day-to-day.

This is a service pilot with the Risk Information Officer role being a fixed term for the duration, with the potential to make the role permanent based on the pilot’s success.

What we want from you

You’ll be a compassionate and resilient communicator; you may be speaking to a caller who is anxious about their risk of prostate cancer. You’ll be a great listener, hearing callers concerns and offering a supportive and empathetic response. Although this is a non-clinical role, with your existing understanding of the healthcare system in the UK, you’ll be willing to learn the basic knowledge of prostate cancer and use the appropriate associated terminology.

You’ll be comfortable in handling more complex conversations, but with self-awareness to recognise your limitations in offering support and recognising clear boundaries of guidance being provided and be able to direct to our Specialist Nurses when needed.

Experience in using a CRM system will be advantageous in this role and any experience with a helpline or providing support or information over the phone will be beneficial in your role.

Manage and administer the pilot project to develop a recognition arrangement (RA) framework for licensing Chartered Geologist (CGeol) status to professional bodies overseas, using the new framework to secure three RAs within the project period.

Support licensing application process

• Manage enquiries relating to licensing applications.

• Support the CO to develop and manage the Society’s Chartership assessor’s training programme.
• Organise welcome packs & certificates and training materials.
• Ensure accurate record management and compliance with GDPR guidelines.

Provide effective support to Licensed organisations

• Ensure communications are handled in a prompt and professional manner.

• Ensure regular data collection from licensed organisations for their CGeol registrants.
