This new role will enhance the strategic impact of our alumni to both the Business School and the University more widely through creative and collaborative working, and evaluating, and prioritising activity to best effect. Working in a matrix-management environment, you will be based in the Business School, reporting in to the Director of External Engagement (Partnerships and Executive Education) and will also be part of the University’s Advancement Team with professional accountability to the Head of Alumni and Supporter Engagement.

The post holder will therefore work in close partnership both with staff in the Business School (in particular External Engagement, key undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, Executive Education and the marketing and communications team) as well as with Advancement colleagues. You will be responsible for leading and managing the Business School’s alumni relations team, translating the School and University strategies into meaningful action, across two key areas of focus:

• Building our alumni community through a programme of engagement, events and communications that enhance our community engagement, identifying opportunities to maximise the impact within the context of Advancement and Business School strategies.
• Increasing the strategic impact of alumni engagement on research and student experience objectives, particularly through volunteering and advocacy.

Working with the team, you will play a critical role in adding strategic value to the Business School from alumni engagement, and developing how Business School engagement, content and activity can benefit the student and alumni community more widely. You will also be delivering against the strategic needs of the wider University, as we enhance our engagement of alumni and supporters (donors and volunteers). You will therefore have a proven approach to collaborative working and developing successful partnerships across organisations.
 

Person Specification

You will have significant experience of managing relationships and influencing senior stakeholders, both internally and externally, to deliver value-adding projects and initiatives. You will have experience of developing strategies, and translating these into activity, maximising events, communications and face-to-face relationship building activity to achieve strategic aims. You will be an experienced leader, able to manage and inspire a motivated, high performing, purpose-driven team with a culture of collaboration and a creative approach to opportunities and problem-solving.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of YMCA’s public policy positions using robust research and insights.
• Monitor, analyse, and respond to government announcements, select committee work, and policy shifts.
• Produce briefings and reports for the Chief Executive, Board of Trustees, and senior leaders.
• Develop strong relationships with government departments, civil servants, and coalition partners.
• Collaborate with local YMCAs to ensure grassroots experiences inform national policy.

About You

You are a confident communicator with a deep understanding of the UK policy landscape and experience influencing public policy at a senior level. You bring strategic insight, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to turn complex information into clear, impactful messages.

• Proven experience in a policy role, ideally in the charity or public sector.
• Strong political awareness and understanding of policy-making processes.

We have a dedicated team of Support Workers, Night Workers and additional Bank Workers who provide support, guidance, and signposting around areas such as housing, budgeting, living skills, jobs and relationship building. Situated in the centre of Guildford, the service has strong links with and contributes to the local community.

Each Support Worker holds a caseload of residents and meets with them weekly to build a support plan and help them achieve their goals.

We are looking for a Supported Housing Support Worker to join our Guildford Foyer team. Main areas of responsibilities are:

Housing:

• Coach young people to manage their occupancy agreement and adhere to house rules, in preparation for independent living
• Promote a credit culture, encouraging young people to keep up to date with all payments for rent
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of housing and welfare benefits for young people and be well-informed on significant changes to housing law
• Deal effectively with non-compliance issues, such as non-payment of rent or damage to room, using restorative practices and working collaboratively with the rest of the team

Coaching and Engagement:

• Coach young people so they can articulate their aspirations and ambitions and take the lead in acquiring the skills they need to live independent and fulfilling lives
• Ensure young people are encouraged to take responsibility for their own personal development, to engage with the services on offer and build strong networks and connections within the local community 
• Ensure consistent standards of safeguarding and Trauma Informed Practice when supporting young people, observing our safeguarding procedures, and keeping yourself and residents safe by respecting professional boundaries
• Maintain client records on In-Form (client database) detailing the young person’s journey in relation to their strengths and needs, any risks, and any outcomes (to monitor service performance)

General:

• Work as part of a team, on a rota shift pattern, ensuring young people at the service have non-judgemental, objective, and supportive staff during the day/evening, along with taking responsibility for personal safety during periods of lone working
• Contribute to a great working environment, with a calm, yet assertive manner, being able to handle potentially difficult situations
• Participate in relevant continuing professional development and utilise Reflective Practice Supervision as part of leading psychologically informed practice

Oversee the success of our Networks and Groups for staff from hospices across the UK, ensuring they remain coordinated, consistent and informed by experts and evidence. 

Collaborate closely with subject matter experts across the charity, to help deliver plan and deliver these virtual groups, which involve multiple hospice staff and external stakeholders across different subject areas.

Deliver and grow our integral Big Conversations series, which brings the hospice sector together on the biggest issues of the day.

We’re looking for someone who takes a consistent project management approach to leading virtual networks and large online meetings/webinars. Building strong internal and external relationships will be vital.

You might be working in the charity sector already, or bring strong technical experience delivering virtual events or online membership networks from other sectors. You don’t need to have a background in healthcare.

You’ll join a close, 16-strong Programmes Team at Hospice UK, made up of experienced clinicians, sector-leading project and event managers, and specialists in evidence and research. We work together and alongside external experts, to design and deliver evidence-based programmes, projects and events, which help hospices provide the very best care in their communities.

Role description:

We are seeking a technically excellent management accountant to play a central role in the finance team at this young and vibrant charity, preparing monthly management information to aid business decisions, and undertaking project work as requested.

Main Responsibilities:

Management Accounts preparation

• Account for accrued income and expenditure, including:

           - Accrued legacy income

           - Accrued trust income

          - Other accrued income

          - Accrued grant expenditure

          - Normal accruals and prepayments

• Reconcile all control accounts regularly
• Prepare and post journals as required
• Prepare monthly management accounts, including restricted and unrestricted reserves

Record keeping

• Contribute to the proper maintenance of book keeping records where necessary, to comply with statutory, financial and GDPR regulations
• Assist in gathering documentation for audit, ensuring necessary information is organised and available
• Assist in year-end statutory accounts preparation
• Ensure that all relevant finance processes and systems are adhered to

Other

• Liaise with fundraising team to assist in reconciliation of finance software to fundraising CRM software
• Produce ad-hoc reports as required
• Complete government and other surveys as required
• Represent the Charity in all dealings with internal and external stakeholders in a professional and efficient manner.

Person Specification:

Knowledge and experience

• Qualified or part-qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA
• Experience of management accounts preparation
• Experience of working with accounting software
• Experience of reconciliations
• Demonstrable experience of accounting in a charitable organisation would be useful but not essential.

Senior Finance Manager

The Senior Finance Manager will join a small and dynamic team that covers Finance, Human Resources, IT and Business Operations. The Finance & Operations team play a critical role by running the day-to-day operations and providing the infrastructure that enables the continued delivery of the Trust’s mission and objectives.

Main duties

• Overseeing the Finance Officer’s work including sales ledger, purchase ledger and general processes and ensuring transactions are posted accurately and timely as well as supporting reconciliations and resolving discrepancies
  Other duties as necessary from time to time 
• Overseeing month-end and year-end processes, including reconciliations and preparing trial balances and journal postings.
• Preparing year-end schedules and statutory accounts, working closely with the Director of Finance & Operations and external auditors. Liaising with external auditors and managing the audit process.
• Ensuring legal and regulatory compliance (e.g. Companies House, Charity Commission)
• Managing the finance system, including data integrity, user access and system upgrades. Supporting finance-related integrations with other systems, and ongoing system improvements/ automation.
• Supporting the Director of Finance & Operations to ensure there is an effective system of financial controls, e.g. feeding into policies, procedures and team-wide training, as required
• Line managing, motivating and proactively supporting the Finance Officer in their professional development
• Proactively updating your own knowledge in relation to the role, identifying and undertaking appropriate training
• Keeping up to date with legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the role and the Trust’s work

Finance Manager

The Finance Manager will join a small and dynamic team that covers Finance, Human Resources, IT and Business Operations. • Building and maintaining relationships with budget holders and members of senior leadership to help them understand budgets and financial statements and support them with their day-to-day budget management and finance needs (incl. on the new finance system, XLedger)

• Preparing quarterly management accounts, and other financial modelling as required
• Cash management and cashflow forecasting; monitoring and reporting on the Trust’s investment portfolios
• Supporting the Director of Finance & Operations with annual budget setting and leading on quarterly reforecasting cycles
• Supporting the Development Team with funding applications, and grant / funder reporting
• Ensuring compliance with funder restrictions and requirements
• With support from the Finance Officer, managing the payroll and benefits administration (note, payroll is outsourced)
• Supporting the Director of Finance & Operations to ensure there is an effective system of financial controls, e.g. feeding into policies, procedures and team-wide training, as required
• Proactively updating your own knowledge in relation to the role, identifying and undertaking appropriate training
• Keeping up to date with legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the role and the Trust’s work
