Supporter Service Assistant Volunteer Roles in Belfast
We are looking for experienced professionals with experience of working with teenagers/ young adults/ unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.
Following a rise in referrals for asylum seeking children, teenagers and young adults, we are looking for volunteers to help us support young refugees and fulfil their unmet needs.
We need volunteers who have relevant experience to help us get to know these children, to spend time with them either one on one or via group outings/ youth clubs. Or volunteers will help these young people to learn English, provide advocacy e.g. accessing services, escorting to appointments and provide emotional support. They will work with our lead Refugee and Migrant Support Practitioner to ensure these young people are able to access their rights and entitlements.
Essential experience:
- work supporting young/ teenage people or refugees
- one to one casework or group work with young/teenagers refugees
- provision of emotional support to vulnerable young people
- commitment to helping asylum seeking children access their rights and entitlements and access justice
Desirable experience:
- social work experience supporting unaccompanied asylum seeking children
- ESOL provision
- other languages e.g. Arabic, Tigrinya
Availability for the roles will vary but could include evenings and weekends.
Training and supervision will be provided by our Refugee and Migrant Practitioner who has expertise in this area.
Enhanced DBS checks and two references will be required.

- Attend Committee meetings
- Develop a series of events and activist training sessions
- Respond to national and local government consultations on environmental issues
- Encourage humanists to become more active politically by for example creating and taking part in petitions and other online actions, and writing to elected representatives and other decision-makers
- Take part in demonstrations, protests, and marches
- Prepare and publish comments or statements from HCA
- Represent HCA at environmental campaign events
- Expand HCA’s membership

Read moreWe are looking for a volunteer School Speaker Assistant Coordinator, who can support the running of our school speakers programme. Our school speakers visit schools around the country to talk to students about humanism as part of a broad and balanced education, about religion and worldviews. We receive extremely positive feedback from teachers on our service.
As demand from schools increases, we need somebody who can help carry out some of the key processes to ensure the smooth running of the service. Some of the key activities of the role include:
- Communicating with school speakers and teachers.
- Matching up school speakers with requests from local schools.
- Logging information about visits.
The work can be carried out remotely and will require approx. two hours per week. Experience in using databases (CRM) is beneficial but not essential as induction and periodic updates will be given.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Marie Curie Companion is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.
Companion volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community.
- Provide one-to-one companionship and support.
For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested
(This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. Companion volunteers do not provide nursing or personal care, or offer counselling or advice)
- Keep your manager informed of any changes to the situation, or any significant happenings in connection to the person you’re supporting and/or their family, either in person or by phone
- Submit regular visit reports to your manager and update relevant computer systems as required
- Be reliable and committed to regularly spending time with someone and offering support
- Attend individual sessions with your Volunteer Co-ordinator, training and group events as required
- Represent the Marie Curie Companion service positively to those using the service

Family Futures provides an integrated interdisciplinary, assessment, treatment and family-finding service for children who are traumatised or have attachment difficulties. Our groundbreaking Neuro-physiological Psychotherapy (NPP) model takes a body-based and neuro-sequential approach to healing developmentally traumatised children and supporting their families and network. Our services extend to adoptive, foster, special guardian, and at risk families.
What you will be doing.
This volunteer role is within our Marketing and Communications team, working closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager and other roles across Family Futures, to achieve our fundraising targets, objectives and values. Our therapy, adoption and fostering services for children and families depend on our financial resilience.
By volunteering as a Funding and Grants Volunteer you will be helping us develop our fundraising strategy to ensure we have funds for projects which will improve our therapy space and better serve the community through enhanced services.
This is a rewarding opportunity to get involved in the ongoing development of Family Futures and to play an important role in helping generate income and build a pipeline of new funding opportunities to improve the mental health and outcomes of developmentally traumatised children.

Volunteer Researcher/Resource Investigator
About Belmont Abbey
Belmont Abbey General Trust CIO (Charity 1190035) supports a community of Benedictine monks in their work and life under the Rule of St Benedict.
Belmont Abbey in Herefordshire designed by Edwin Pugin (1834-1875) son of Augustus Pugin and featuring fine stained glass from the studios of John Hardman, belongs to the congregation of English Benedictine monks who are custodians of this beautiful Abbey.
The Abbey is now home to fifteen monks and supports the livelihood of another 8 living elsewhere. Most monks living at Belmont are ordained as priests and are involved in pastoral work at the Abbey and in eight other parishes in England and Wales. Together they are responsible for around 8,000 parishioners and their families.
Belmont also supports a monastery it started in Peru in the 1980’s which is now home to ten monks.
Belmont provides modern office accommodation to the NHS and is also home to 19 formerly homeless local people, housed in what was the Abbey guesthouse. This initiative began at the beginning of the Covid pandemic, a response to the urgent need to provide a place of safety for those who were most at risk.
The Abbey is a friendly place reaching out to those in need and offering tranquillity, reflection and companionship.
Role summary
As a home-based volunteer researcher/resource investigator you will be a key member of the Belmont Abbey Development and Community Outreach Project Team. You will support the Project Development Director and other colleagues by researching:
- Grant and other fundraising opportunities
- Evidence of need (using government data, academic articles, and reports, third sector feedback and analysis and news media coverage etc)
- Communication channels (including innovative back channels and networks)
- Services and resources that will benefit clients, members of the local community and our charitable delivery partners

Godly Play offers spiritually sensitive approaches to learning and living together in a fragile world. We take childhood spirituality seriously, providing training to transform thinking and practice for the whole of life.
A Christian movement, Godly Play seeks to make space for questions about the meaning and purpose of life, through play, wondering, story, exploration and community.
Our small board of trustees supports a group of fifteen part-time trainers offering courses to people working with children in churches of many traditions, in schools and in community settings.
We would like to diversify our board's ethnicity, age and gender. It would be great to have someone with grant-seeking experience and/or communications know how, but we would love to talk to anyone who is interested.

Bright Futures UK is a charity that supports young people who are forced to take time out from education due to chronic illness. We provide programmes that stimulate learning and provide a social aspect which offer respite to young people who have become extremely isolated due to long-term illness.
We are currently looking for an experienced Social Media Marketer to work with us and help us devise a strong Social Media Strategy.
We would like the volunteer to deliver on the following:
• Perform a social media audit: Assess the current state of our social media pages and make recommendations on how we might improve our presence and engagement and where we might focus our efforts.
• Help us develop and execute a Social Media Strategy to help us expand our social media presence across three platforms, Twitter, Instagram & Facebook.
• Provide guidance on how we can manage our social media on an ongoing basis e.g. using a centralised tool, creating a content calendar, identifying easy and free graphic tools and images
• Produce fresh and engaging content for our social media channels
• Prepare graphics for sharing across channels
• Engage with our followers and encourage interaction
• Manage and maintain social media channels on a regular basis
• Promote upcoming Events / Sessions
We want to work collaboratively with you in ensuring this role will help you develop professionally and personally and will give you full autonomy in curating interesting content in line with our mission across these platforms as well as helping us to promote our current services and ongoing work.
Location
This position is home-based.
Time commitment
We ask that you can commit 5-8 hours per month for a minimum 10-week period.
