About us
Pancreatic cancer is a tough one, but we're taking it on. It is tough to diagnose, tough to treat, and tough to research. For too long this disease has been sidelined. We believe diversity drives great outcomes by encouraging the different points of view that come from a diverse workforce. We want to hear from and engage with people whose experience of dealing with this disease may be very different depending on their individual circumstances and background. We can think of no better way to do this than by making sure this role fully represents our intent; therefore, we are especially keen to consider applications from suitable applicants who consider themselves to be in areas that appear underrepresented within the charity sector.

About CARE
CARE International is a global humanitarian organisation leading the fight to end poverty in the world’s most challenging situations. Women and girls are at the centre of our work, because we cannot overcome poverty and inequality until all people have equal rights and opportunities. We know that when a crisis erupts, women are often the first to pick up the pieces, so we work alongside women, so they have the power to make change where it’s needed most. Founded in 1945, CARE currently works in over 100 countries and last year alone reached 53.4 million people through nearly 1,500 projects.
Why work for CARE International UK?
At CARE International UK, we're committed to creating lasting change in the fight against poverty and inequality around the world. Behind that impact is a community of talented, passionate people who bring expertise, collaboration and purpose to everything they do.
We're committed to fostering a workplace where colleagues feel valued, supported and empowered to contribute their best. As part of our People & Organisational Development team, you'll have the opportunity to shape how people experience working at CARE, influence organisation-wide initiatives, and help build an environment where individuals and teams can flourish.
This is a chance to use your expertise in a role that combines strategic influence with meaningful, people-centred work, all within an organisation driven by a clear social purpose.
About the role
Working closely with leaders across the organisation, you'll take the lead on talent management and learning and development initiatives that help colleagues build rewarding careers and reach their full potential. From leadership development and succession planning to career pathways and organisational capability, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring CARE has the talent, skills and leadership needed to achieve its ambitions now and in the future.
You'll develop and deliver initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, support professional growth and contribute to a positive organisational culture. By fostering a culture of continuous learning and development, you'll help ensure colleagues have the tools, skills and experiences needed to reach their full potential and make their greatest contribution to CARE's mission.
You'll be instrumental in helping the organisation navigate change, strengthen communication and foster a shared sense of direction and purpose. Combining insight, creativity and practical delivery, you'll identify opportunities to improve how we support our people and continuously enhance the experience of our colleagues.
This is a varied and influential role for someone who enjoys building relationships, turning ideas into action and making a visible contribution to organisational success.
About you

Combining both a strategic and pragmatic approach, you’ll be able to identify opportunities for improvement and find practical solutions.
Alongside your ability to build strong relationships, you’ll be able to influence and challenge constructively while maintaining credibility and trust. Experience within the charity, international development or wider values-led sector would be highly desirable, as would experience managing external consultants. Our guests arrive having been told, in a hundred different ways, that they are a problem to be managed. Our radical welcome is the opposite of that — and we are looking for someone to help us sustain it.
Kairos Housing grew out of a shared vision between local churches in Blackburn with Darwen. Our mission is to show the love of Jesus as we provide sanctuary, build community and seek justice.
The people we house have often been sleeping on park benches, sofa-surfing, or staying somewhere unsafe. Some have had an asylum claim refused and cannot work, rent or claim benefits. Others have just been granted refugee status and days to leave Home Office accommodation. We offer a home, and walk with them until they can stand on their own.
Our welcome means saying welcome home and meaning it — a safe place, a bed, community, support and belonging. Not hostility, and not even tolerance. We publicly challenge the hostility our guests face and speak up for a fairer system as part of our mission.Everything in this job about compliance, rent collection and record-keeping exists as so we can provide that radical welcome.
The role
We need someone to take on the day-to-day running of Kairos Housing.
What you'll be working on
This job is for you if…
You do not need a housing background. If you arrive with relevant operations or housing experience, we would expect to appoint at or near the top of the range. If you have the values and transferable skills but not the technical knowledge, we will train you — including a fully funded housing qualification with paid study leave.
Key details
Office based at Church House, Blackburn Cathedral grounds, with the option to work from home occasionally, and regular travel to our properties. 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (This is not an on-call role). Responsible to the Board of Trustees.
Benefits: 25 days holiday plus statutory holidays; 3% employer pension; full mileage; funded qualification and paid study leave; reflective supervision and peer support.
It is an occupational requirement of this post that the postholder is a practising Christian, in accordance with Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010. Our guests come from many faiths and from none, and are never expected to share ours.
