We have an exciting opportunity to become a Trustee and / or Governor and be part of team who really do change children’s lives.

The Charity runs an SEMH School, and we are seeking several volunteers to join our current team of Trustees and Governors.

We would be very interested to speak to you if you share our passion about our Charity and have a genuine interest in the welfare, care and development of children with social, emotional, or mental health consideration.

We are specifically interested to find Trustees and / or Governors who have experience in the following areas:

· Education

· Finance

· HR

· Charity Sector

· Children’s Social Care

The Charity requires Trustees who will:

· Take a strategic role on the Board, holding the Senior Management Team (SMT) to the ethos and principles of the Charity in line with its founding documents.

· Provide support and balanced guidance to the SMT, acting as a critical friend.

· Ensure accountability of the SMT, regarding financial management.

· Provide challenge in a measured and open way.

Governors will be concerned with the school only.

Volunteers can opt to be both a Trustee and a Governor, or just one or the other.

These roles are voluntary; however, the Charity does require a level of commitment for the role. Our Trustees and Governors meet up to 4 evenings per year for full Board / Governor meetings. There are also termly monitoring visits for Governors. Full induction and ongoing training will be provided; a mentor from the existing board will be assigned so that you are supported fully.

• Sector influence and advocacy – This trustee will be a great communicator, with a skill for forming and sustaining effective relationships. They will have a broad professional network which might include national or international connections. They may have connections which include the private sector, academia, thinktanks or investors interested in making social impact. Their experience might include research, policy making or campaigning. Their guidance will help us advocate for the befriending sector with greater impact and effectiveness. 

By joining the Befriending Networks board, you will play an integral role in moving our charity forward and helping us champion the impact of befriending on loneliness and isolation.  If you have the skills we’re looking for and are energised by working collaboratively to help organisations (and others) succeed, we’d love to hear from you.

The role in a nutshell: 

Volunteers help to keep Age UK charity shops running like clockwork and are an essential part of everything that we do. Our charity shops raise vital funds that support the wide range of services Age UK delivers, so if you have some free time available and would like to help, we’d love to hear from you! Age UK Volunteer Van Mates travel with Age UK van drivers. The role involves collecting and delivering goods and stock from and to private properties and from one shop to the other, working as a team with the van driver loading and unloading goods from the van and assisting the team with the running of the stockroom. 

What will you be doing? 

In this role, you would be assisting with the collection, loading, and unloading as well as delivery of donated furniture, white goods, clothing, and bric-a-brac to and from private residences and workplaces, helping with the re-distribution of stock and furniture from one shop to another and carrying out tip-runs to dispose of items no longer usable. You would also support staff to manage stock in the stockroom, accept donations, process items for sale. 

How would you be supported in this role? 

When you begin your role, you will receive a mix of e-learning and in-person training to get you started. Throughout the role, you will receive refresher training as required as well as ongoing support, reimbursement for role-related expenses and the opportunity to further shape the volunteering you do. 

Why do we need volunteers in this role? 

Van Mates have very demanding roles which are important to the success of our charity shops. We need Volunteer Van Mates to support our Van Drivers with the many tasks at hand to ensure that stock is at the right shop, at the right time in the most cost and time efficient manner. This helps Age UK to raise enough funds though our shops to reach and support more older people.

What skills, interests or experience might be helpful in this role?

The Vision Friends project has been running successfully for the past five years, providing free, Welsh Government-funded training to health and social care professionals across Wales. The training is designed to help professionals better understand and support people living with sight loss.

This year, we are launching a new strand of the project: Vision Friends: First Responders. The aim is to adapt our existing training to specifically support first responder services to enhance their ability to support individuals with sight loss in emergency and urgent care situations.

We are seeking a committed and empathetic volunteer to help us shape a more inclusive future by gathering valuable feedback from blind and partially sighted individuals, as well as first responders via online forums. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact on how services are developed and delivered across communities in Wales and beyond.

What you will be doing:

Facilitate engaging and accessible online forums with blind and partially sighted people to gather feedback for an RNIB led project;

Run structured feedback sessions with first responders to understand the service experiences and identify areas for improvement;

Ensure participants feel comfortable, heard and respected throughout all discussions;

Capture key insights and report findings clearly and accurately to the health and social care training team;

Support RNIB in creating a positive and inclusive environment for all forum participants.

LGC members also participate in decision-making panels (for admissions and exclusions) for schools in the Trust. The average time commitment for our LGC members is 8-12 hours per month.

NEAT takes safeguarding seriously, and all governance volunteers are required to undertake a vetting process (including DBS check) during appointment to best safeguard our pupils and schools.

Additional information: We’re looking for tutors that can commit to a minimum of 2 academic terms of volunteering.

We will need to conduct reference checks and you will need an Enhanced DBS for this role as you will be working directly with children. We can process this for you or you may submit one if this is less than 3 years old.
