We Stand are recruiting a number of voluntary positions for our Board of Trustees, including a Board secretary. 

We Stand is the only national charity that specialises in helping non-abusing parents and carers to protect and support their sexually abused children.

Our Mission is to provide support in a non - judgmental environment for non abusing parents and carers of sexually abused children. 

Our Services help families at a time of extreme trauma caused by child sexual abuse – providing emotional and practical support to young victims, siblings and non-abusing parents/carers so that they can move on positively with their lives together. 
 

Role

We Stand is run by a Board made up of volunteer Trustees. We are seeking a committed and passionate individual to fill the role of volunteer Board Secretary. Previous board experience is not required, but experience on the following criteria is. 

Expectations of Board Secretary 

• Planning Board and sub-committee meetings. This includes organising and coordinating meetings, preparing agenda and distributing any meeting materials. 

• Maintaining records of board proceedings, decisions and actions

• Ensuring Board compliance

• Following up on actions

• Maintaining good relations with the the Board, CEO and staff members

Meditation can give us a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both our emotional wellbeing and overall health. Do you have experience in delivering meditation sessions and would like to give back your time to support people in crisis?

The hustle and bustle of everyday life can leave us feeling tired and burnt out. People in our services are feeling this more than ever and would benefit from learning mindfulness techniques and strategies. It is important for us to pay more attention to the present moment, our own thoughts, feelings and the world around us as it is known to support and improve our mental wellbeing, sleep, and increase our overall happiness.

What you will be doing

• Facilitate a weekly online meditation session in a small group
• Plan each session and identify any items needed for the Meditation sessions.
• Lead on the logistics and set up of the session alongside the staff team.
• Inspire and motivate people using the services to attend.
• Keep a record of attendees, provide feedback, and report any concerns to the staff team.

Board

We are  particularly interested in applications from those with the following experience, but more importantly we are interested in applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences, to support our work. 

• Business development in the charity sector 

• Comms strategy

• Legal experience, ideally experience within family law. 

Previous board experience not required.

Expectations of Board trustees

• Actively participate in board meetings (which occur once every 3 months, on Wednesday evening), 

• Attend any sub committee meetings you are part of where required - usually held every month or every two months

• Oversee the strategic direction of the organisation, supporting its development through good governance

• Use personal skills, expertise and time to support the organisation’s development

• Undertake tasks required by the Board from time to time - such as recruitment 

The New Normal are seeking a Chair of our Board of Trustees! The primary responsibilities are providing leadership, strategic direction and governance oversight for the charity. They ensure that the board functions effectively, that the organization remains true to its mission, and that it meets its legal and ethical obligations. 

We are looking for a driven and diligent person to support TNN in it's mission to provide free-to-access peer support for a diverse range of grief experiences, communities and identities. 

Applicants should have the capacity to provide around 4-6 hours per month on a flexible basis, with some months quieter/busier than others.

We are seeking someone who has strong leadership, facilitation and decision-making skills, excellent communication and public-speaking, understanding of financial management, fundraising and stakeholder engagement, and a passion for the Charity's mission and long-term success. South Liverpool Domestic Abuse Services (SLDAS) are seeking a new Treasurer to join our Board to oversee the charity’s financial governance, compliance and planning.  As a small independent charity founded in 1998, SLDAS offer free and accessible support to women who experience domestic abuse in South and South-Central Liverpool.  Domestic abuse has a devastating impact upon individuals, families and communities.  Year on year, recorded incidents of domestic abuse have increased in Merseyside, and rose sharply during the pandemic. Women are falling through the net and we want to do more to help them.

We employ a team of nine full and part time staff who support the running of the service, including a director who joined us in April 2023, responsible for managing and developing the staff and service, and developing the strategic direction of the charity alongside the Trustees.

SLDAS is mainly funded by a number of local authority and other national grant providers with an interest in domestic abuse.  Whilst this is a competitive and challenging time for all charities, we have made some steps towards sourcing new multi-year funding to expand our services, making this an exciting time to join us on the board of Trustees.

Please note that this opportunity is open to women only, and is exempt under the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1.

Becoming a Trustee with SLDAS offers a chance to make a real difference to the lives of women at risk of domestic abuse, but it will also offer you opportunities to meet new people, take on new challenges and volunteer in an interesting and strategic role.

To join the board of Trustees as Treasurer, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from women with strong skills and professional experience in the following areas:

• Previous Trusteeship role(s);

• Knowledge of charity accounting guidelines;

• Budgeting and forecasting;

• Management reporting, and the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance trustees and staff;

• Accountancy qualification preferred, or demonstrable experience in a financial accounting role;

• Financial controls and risk management;

Successful candidate(s) will demonstrate:

• A commitment to support women in South Liverpool to live their lives free from violence, abuse and fear;

• A willingness and ability to devote the necessary time and effort to the role;

• A commitment to take the lead in financial governance, promoting the safeguarding of the financial viability of the Charity;

• An enquiring approach, not afraid to ask questions or challenge;

• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship;

• Clear communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as a member of a board.

The Treasurer will also be expected to attend and chair the Finance Planning and Fundraising sub committee.  Some mentoring hours with the Director and the Finance worker may also be expected.  

SLDAS recognise that the role of a Trustee is a responsible position and that you may require training and support to conduct your role to the best of your ability. We therefore offer Trustees an induction, ongoing training and opportunities for mentoring from other Trustees.

The time commitment for Trustees is around 4-6 hours a month. Board meetings are monthly, usually in the evenings. Most of the meetings are virtual via zoom meeting, although we do try and meet in person on occasion, either at the office or in the South Liverpool area. Trustee positions are unremunerated, but reasonable travel, subsistence and childcare expenses will be reimbursed.

Trailblazers’ mission is to reduce re-offending and inspire new futures. Your support will help a young man to reconnect with his community, friends and loved ones, go into education, training and employment, and give a person a sense of hope for the future.

Trailblazers has been providing mentoring services to people in prison since 1998 with ultimate aim to reduce re-offending. We provide support to men between the age of 18 - 35 in custody who have 6 months left of their prison sentence, and then 'through the gate' into their own community for up to 12 months. The Education, Training & Employment (ETE) team supports our mentees in custody to break down barriers to employability. Post-release, this continues by supporting mentees to gain meaningful and career changing roles in sector specific industries such as Construction, Engineering, Catering & Hospitality or the Self-Employment route. 

The ETE team are looking to build a team of volunteers to work with mentees in the community and to shape the existing ETE service in the Thames Valley area. We are looking for volunteer mentors who can commit for up to 12 months and give a few hours a week to support men to change their life by being inspirational role models, helping with goal setting and supporting their mentee to access ETE opportunities and ultimately gain meaningful employment. Mentoring sessions will be 1:1, take place weekly and can be done remotely by telephone or online. These sessions will last approximately one hour, but some time should also be given to liaising with Trailblazers staff and researching relevant opportunities. 

Induction training is provided, out of pocket expenses covered, a mobile phone is provided to protect your identity, a Trailblazers T-shirt and lanyard are provided, DBS costs are covered, as well as regular reflective practice sessions to support you within your role. 

We are actively looking for people to join our mentoring community with lived experience of the criminal justice system, under represented groups from BAME community, creative arts, business skills, wellbeing - whatever your skills and background we are open to hear from you to support our diverse group of men.

Prison in reach volunteers support members of the Armed Forces community who are in prison. They make a real difference by providing essential support during these incredibly difficult times.

Our volunteers work closely with veterans in custody support officers, attending veteran forums, and offering one to one support, including making applications for financial assistance. We also connect clients with organisations, to help support pathways for positive change.

• Attend group forums for veterans within the prison environment.
• Complete individual assessments and complete one to one personalised support for veterans within the prison environment, which includes casework.
• Promote the services available to family members.
• Establish an agreement around the rate of visits with the VCJS team and the prison.
• Record the support offered to veterans accordingly and appropriately.
• Complete monitoring reports.

The skills you need

• Be over 21.
• Have a good level of fitness to able to move around a prison quickly - including stairs.
• Excellent listening skills.
• Awareness of boundaries and confidentiality.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of people, including prison staff, other agencies, SSAFA colleagues and clients.
• Positive, committed and non-judgemental. Non-judgemental and empathetic attitude.
• Good IT skills.
• An enhanced DBS check is required for this role. Individual prisons will determine if they authorise individuals to be based in their facilities based on security considerations. Security Vetting by His Majesty’s Prison Service is often required. For further discussion, please get in touch.
• You will need to declare potential conflicts of interest, for example any family connection with the prison.
