Michael Roberts Charitable Trust (MRCT), a cornerstone of Harlow's community support network, is seeking four passionate and dedicated practicing Christians to join its Board of Trustees.

What will you be doing?

MRCT provides vital services to those in need in and around Harlow. These services include the Harlow Foodbank, Maybury Open Door (drop-in centre), Bump to Five (baby bank), Harlow Community School Uniform Exchange, the Bounty Club Community Supermarket, the Hive Community Forum and the Community Cafe. 

We rely on the commitment of our Trustees to ensure responsible governance and continued impact, all motivated by our strong Christian ethos. Currently, we are seeking to recruit new trustees to bring extra skills and experience to our board.

As a Trustee, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the MRCT.  Your expertise will be vital in guiding the Trust's strategic direction, overseeing financial management, and ensuring compliance with UK charity law.

• Ensure the charity complies with its governing document and charity law.
• Ensure focus on strategy, performance, risk and assurance rather than operational matters.
• Act with integrity, making objective decisions without undue influence by special or personal interests.

• Uphold collective responsibility of the board.

• Ensure an understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of equality, equity, diversity and inclusion.

What you will be doing
The opportunity will be volunteering with the Volunteering Officer and People & Culture Manager carrying out administrative tasks that include data input in to systems, issuing letters and documents, responding to email enquiries, photocopying/scanning, filing, using Microsoft Office, Teams and SharePoint and the development of the volunteering programme at Suffolk Wildlife Trust including the recognition events and activities.

There are no set tasks or duties with the opportunity - you'll be getting involved with the day-to-day activities.

The skills you need
No experience is required other than able to use a computer and Microsoft Office.

As a Fundraising Volunteer you’ll assist with fundraising events and collections throughout the year, as and when you can.

Activities include:

We provide activities, opportunities, information and support for people with a learning disability or autism, their parents and siblings.

ELSP shop volunteers
Flexible timings, 4-hour time slots

We are currently looking for energetic and enthusiastic volunteers to join us in our boutique charity shop in Enfield, EN2.

Volunteers have a fantastic opportunity to help shape our members work experience placements within the shop.  You will support our members will all aspects of working in a charity shop, including using the till and customer service and spend time with them to review the skills they have learnt at the end of each shift.

What you'll do
At the shop you will be paired with one of our members with a learning disability or autism. You'll support and encourage them to complete the job/role they have been given for that specific day and encourage them to practice their social skills by interacting with the public in a polite and friendly manner.

You will also encourage them to work as part of a team and engage socially with staff and volunteers present in the shop.  You will build their confidence and encourage them to take on new challenges.

Requirements

What you need
You do not need experience. Full disability awareness training will be provided before you begin volunteering with us.
The only requirements we ask of you are enthusiasm, energy and to be open-minded.
Minimum age for volunteers is 20.

How much time?
There is no minimum commitment, however the more time you spend with our members the more you get to know them and can better support them.

When do I need to come?

Volunteers must attend training and complete a free DBS check before taking part.

We'll be running face-to-face training in north London starting on the 24th May with lots of other dates to choose from.

In the meantime, we'll be meeting volunteers online from mid-April.

Training will take place in North London – once we have met you online for a chat, we will send you confirmation of our training venue details.

The aim of our People Team Volunteer is to support our team with administrative support across people projects and day-to-day activity within the department, across recruitment, onboarding, and exit processes.

Key tasks

• Supports with People project administration.
• Supports with recruitment and onboarding, including references, supporting with pre-employment checks and issuing documentation.
• Supports the People Team in answering emails from the shared inboxes.
• Assists with ensuring that the People files are well organised and that documents are easy to locate.
• Assists with the maintenance of employee records within our People system.
• Supports with the completion of written reference requests, flagging any potential issues to the People Advisors for prompt action.
• Sends out recruitment materials to shops & the field teams in a timely manner (e.g. posters)

· Send out induction materials to shops & field teams in a timely manner (e.g. induction workbooks)

Background to the role:

Keep Active is a volunteer-delivered project at The Creighton Centre, which aims to provide support to older people (60+) who have had a fall, stroke or other illness.  We work in partnership with the NHS Community Rehabilitation Service across Hammersmith & Fulham. As a Keep Active Volunteer you would visit an older person (the average age is 84) once a week for up to nine weeks to help them with improving mobility indoors with exercises, or outdoors with walks in their community. This project aims to empower people to get back to independence, access community once more and reduce risks of future falls and hospital re-admittance.

Availability/commitment:

· To live in or near Hammersmith and Fulham, or travel regularly through

· To be able to spare 1-2 hours a week, preferably during working hours

Role of the Keep Active Volunteer:

· To attend an initial one-off training session [with Volunteer Coordinator and therapists from NHS rehabilitation teams].

· To visit an older person’s home once a week for up to 9 weeks to supervise and motivate them to continue practicing their exercise and walking goals, as prescribed by NHS rehabilitation teams.

· Support might include:

- A walk around their local community possibly going to the park or visiting shops.

- Encouraging them to complete a prescribed gentle exercise program.

- Keeping an older and sometimes isolated person company.

- Visiting someone in their homes to help them reach their exercise goals.

NB: Please note that this is a volunteer role and you will not be expected to provide any physical support. This is a motivational role only.

We will provide:

· Induction training and NHS Community Rehabilitation led training (weekday training).

· Regular contact and support from the project staff.

· Occasional social events for volunteers

· Occasional training opportunities for volunteers

· A reference after 3-6 months of volunteering with us

· An enhanced DBS check

· Reimbursement of travel expenses incurred during your volunteering
