Job description

As our Senior People Officer, each day will be different from the last. You'll manage a high performing team of 3 that enables the charity to deliver its strategy and work as part of a wider People team of 16. You’ll hold ownership of monthly payroll, HRIS and ATS systems as well as support our colleagues on cases such as occupational health and absence management.

About the role

You’ll work closely with all members of the People & Culture team and internal and external stakeholders. You’ll be responsible for managing the People Support function - working in partnership with the People Operations Lead, People Business Partners and Advisers. You’ll also work alongside our learning and EDI teams to support the development and delivery of our new learning initiatives.

This role is offered on a 9-12 month fixed-term contract for maternity cover, on 26 hours per week. The working pattern is flexible and we are open to discussion. The charity's core hours are 10am - 4pm.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage, support, and develop the support function for the People team to enable the delivery of People initiatives across the charity, including line management of the Reporting and Systems Officer and People Coordinators.

  • Oversee/supervise the Reporting and Systems Officer to deliver accurate monthly payroll for approximately 600 employees in partnership with the payroll provider

  • Support and provide advice to managers on lower level employee relations cases such as maternity, paternity, adoption, occupational health, and absence management. In addition to assisting the Advisers and PBP’s in more complex casework.

  • Manage and support our recruitment cycle, ensuring processes and policies are followed to ensure consistency and best practice, leading on campaigns during busier periods

  • Lead and support on ad hoc projects and policy development across the whole remit of the People & Culture Team, and collaboratively with stakeholders

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience of managing an operational HR team of officers, coordinators, and administrators

  • Experience of working within an HR environment in a busy and varied team and experience of managing, delivering and processing an accurate monthly payroll

  • Experience and understanding of managing a people HR system (preferably Cascade) and an ATS (applicant tracking system)

  • Experience of supporting employee relations case work and providing advice to Managers on low level employee relations cases

  • Experience of managing the full recruitment cycle and knowledge of recruitment best practice

  • Experience of working with personal and sensitive data, in compliance with GDPR regulations, whilst being able to effectively interpret people data

  • Ability to identify continuous improvements in processes and systems, with a will to question and challenge established processes

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, work to tight deadlines set by others and to support the team in achieving collaborative goals
