Unique and much needed, we are the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. Our work focuses on campaigning to increase the national investment in research into brain tumours to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence, across the UK.​

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002.  All of us at Brain Tumour Research are passionate about finding a cure for this devastating disease.  

Job Purpose:

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who wants to build a career in the charity sector and make a difference in one of the most innovative and exciting medical research fundraising charities in the UK. ​

As the Community Fundraising Assistant (East), you will play a crucial role in helping the charity meet its strategic plans and objectives, which include campaigning to increase the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK. ​

Your role will be to support our East region to generate and grow our income through community fundraising activities, contributing to a regional team target of £1.5 million.  ​

You will possess good time attention to detail and time management skills. You will also have a positive ‘can do’ attitude, a personable manner, and will embrace the desire to make a measurable difference. ​

You’ll enjoy being part of and contributing to a busy, experienced, fast-working, and dedicated fundraising team while working cross-functionally with other departments such as PR, marketing and Research, Policy and Innovation. ​

We ask that the successful candidate be flexible and willing to travel, if there is a large event that our supporters need assistance with. ​

Requisite Skills and Experience: ​​

Essential 

• ​Experience of working in an administrative or customer service environment
• A good communicator, with the ability to converse sensitively and empathetically with members of the public, who may be going through current or recent traumatic experiences  Ability to work proactively and independently

Main duties:  ​

• Respond to supporter fundraising queries from across the East Region, predominantly via email or phone​

• Support the delivery of community fundraising activities and events across the East Region, but predominantly within the areas of London and Home Counties​

• Research and identify opportunities for support from within the East Region ​

• Ensure fundraisers that you support have access to relevant fundraising advice, guidance and accurate signposting, whilst promoting best practice in fundraising ​

• Keep our CRM database fully up to date with information about our supporters and their fundraising activities ​

• Provide administrative support for the East region​

• Work collaboratively with other teams within the organisation​

• Play an active role in the wider Community Fundraising Team and Income Generation Directorate

To perform this role, you’ll need the following skills:

Technical Research Expertise

• Expert knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies including RCTs, quasi-experimental methods; including multi-country evaluations and ethical research management.
• Proficiency in advanced statistical analysis and research data interpretation. Excellent data analysis skills using statistical software packages (STATA or R) and advanced excel skills; experience of advanced quantitative analysis techniques such as Interrupted Time Series Analysis, multilevel regression etc.

• Proficiency in developing new metrics and frameworks for assessing program impact, particularly in equity, disability, and marginalized group outcomes.
• Deep understanding of research ethics, protocols, and quality assurance processes
• Highly proficient in steering large-scale third-party evaluations.

Sector Expertise

• Substantial experience in sexual and reproductive health research
• Understanding of SRH research challenges, indicators, and measurement approaches
• Knowledge of key global health research institutions and networks
• Familiarity with demographic and health research data sources and methodologies

Stakeholder Engagement and communication

• Highly developed skills to influence and persuade ability to quickly and effectively build relationships with team members and stakeholders at all levels.

To perform this role, you’ll need the following experience:

• Extensive (minimum of 8 years) experience in leading research in global health
• Strong track record in managing multi-country research initiatives and partnerships.
• Demonstrated experience in thought leadership, research dissemination, and donor engagement.
• Proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and deliver high-quality research outputs in a fast-paced environment.

Formal education/qualification

• Advanced degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, or related fields is essential.
• Additional qualification or formal training in research design or impact evaluation desirable
• Proficiency in French is highly desirable (please state level in application)
• Additional qualification or formal training in research design, epidemiology or impact evaluation, data visualisation such as PowerBI; advanced excel skills - desirable

Location: This is a remote UK-based role with regular travel to CST’s national and regional events, mainly in Birmingham and London. Candidates within reasonable travel distance to these locations are preferred.

Salary: £41,603 - £45,470 a year.

Pension: We offer a workplace pension and life assurance scheme. CST makes contributions equivalent to 10% of your gross salary.

The Professional Communities Manager leads the development, content curation, and operational delivery of CST’s 11 Professional Communities. These networks, events, and forums are a core benefit of CST membership and are provided free of charge to members.

This is a proactive, member-focused role that blends operational excellence with strategic content oversight. The postholder will work directly with community chairs, subject experts, community supporters, CST platinum partners and members to ensure that all communities are vibrant, professionally hosted, and deliver high-quality, relevant content.

The role also plays a key part in ensuring a joined-up approach to content across CST’s full range of activities, working closely with the professional learning and conference teams and partnerships to ensure alignment and maximise value for members.

Key responsibilities

 Strategic Development and Continuous Improvement

• Develop and implement strategic plans to strengthen the value, engagement, and content of CST Professional Communities.
• Set clear objectives and KPIs to monitor success and drive continuous improvement of community services.

Background:

Longfield Hall Trust (LHT) manages the historic Longfield Hall, offering a range of cultural experiences and classes for all ages. Our new Memory Café project aims to support dementia patients and their carers by providing a welcoming space for social and recreational activities. The Café will offer dementia friendly activities (including karaoke, bingo, arts/crafts and immersive theatre/dance shows) to empower dementia patients to enjoy regular social, cognitive and physical activities.

Alongside supporting patients, the Memory Café will create a highly supportive environment for carers. This will enable carers to take some 'time out' while remaining nearby in a safe space where both carers and patients can socialize more widely. Furthermore, the Café will provide access to information about relevant local services, ensuring comprehensive support for all attendees.

The Memory Café Care Worker will support the Memory Café Manager and enable us to support a broad range of dementia patients and their carers.

• Salary: £26,000 - £30,000 per annum, pro rata.
• Holiday: 25 days and bank holidays (pro-rata) + days between Christmas & New Year. Additionally, we are trialling an additional week of leave during August 2024 and 2025, which may be offered in 2026 if successful.

Staff work closely with Slough Community Mental Health Team (SCMHT) we also have a designated Occupational Therapist working along side supporting staff. Customers also attend Hope College which is facilitated via Slough Mental Health Team as part of their recovery process needed in preparation into independent living.

What you'll do:

- Undertake key-working responsibilities for a caseload assigned by the Team Leader/ Manager
- Undertake initial and continuous assessment of needs and potential risks and agree levels of support and actions
- Create support/action plans for providing appropriate services based on the assessment and reflecting the services and resources available
- Support customers to undertake all domestic tasks wherever possible, including practical assistance where they have not yet developed the skills, to ensure customers enjoy a high quality of accommodation
- Develop and maintain links with all key agencies and service providers in the local community
- Empower customers to ensure they receive the service and benefits they are entitled to
- Undertake all administrative work and keep accurate and comprehensive tenant/customer records to professional standards
- Encourage and enable tenants to pay their rent and to ensure that rent accounts are managed effectively in conjunction with the Housing Management team
- Ensure that referrals are chased proactively so that properties which can be used to house those in need are filled as efficiently as possible
