Responsibilities

• To manage the operations of the MSSC Logistics & Trading department, which includes motor transport management for the MSSC.
• To be line manager to the Logistics & Trading Team.
• Be Building Manager responsible for the safety and security of all machinery, staff and operations within Sea Cadet Stores.
• Be responsible for budgetary control and finances associated with the department.
• To provide warehouse management and administrative oversite to operations for receipt and dispatch of online shop orders, MoD and MSSC stores held on loan throughout the MSSC.
• Liaise with SCC units, contractors, suppliers and MoD, to effectively deliver an efficient, effective department.
• Be responsible for maintain appropriate levels of MoD and Sea Cadets Shop stock.
• Liaise with Royal Navy regarding use of RN systems for purchasing uniforms and other RN provided equipment.
• Manage warehouse receipt and dispatch, ensuring that all orders are dispatched within specified timelines.
• Manage the operations of the Westminster Stores and Sea Cadets Shop online systems, ensuring that all records are maintained and up to date and accurate.
• Be prepared to assist with the manual aspects of warehouse activities as required.
• Liaise with Royal Navy and Captain of Sea Cadets regarding changing uniform requirements.

Role Overview:
Our Sport and Inclusion Tutor will lead, deliver and develop our intervention programmes, focusing on mentoring young people accessing our Tackle LIFE and Be You programmes. They will bring a wealth of teaching or youth work to our charity and use this experience to support some of the county’s most vulnerable young people. We're looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Project Officer to lead the delivery of environmental and sustainability projects at Offshoots for Newground Together, and across our wider Great Outdoors programme based in Burnley. You'll manage a team of Project Officers, develop structured volunteering opportunities, and oversee the smooth running of operations including health and safety and risk management. A key part of your role will be to grow community engagement attracting a diverse range of participants and volunteers and to build strong partnerships with local organisations to support project success and future development.

Outline of key responsibilities for the Senior Project Officer (Great Outdoors)...

• Provide effective leadership and management of staff working at Offshoots and across the wider Great Outdoors team.
• Develop and manage relationships with external stakeholders to ensure that project delivery runs smoothly, and project opportunities are maximised.
• Support the project officer(s) on site and across the Great Outdoors team in maintaining and developing appropriate links within the local community.
• Develop and run a successful multi-tiered volunteering programme at Offshoots Community Garden which fully integrates with all aspects or project operation.
• To further develop interest and engagement with a diverse range of community groups representative of Burnley and the surrounding areas.
• Responsible for safeguarding on site at offshoots, ensuring safeguarding policies and procedures are followed and to support on site staff with issues involving young people and vulnerable adults.
• Ensuring the delivery of high performing projects across Offshoots and the Great Outdoors team.
• Demonstrating and implementing effective workload management practices for Offshoots and the Great Outdoors team
• Assist Offshoots and the broader Great Outdoors initiatives with all facets of responsible financial management for the company. Ensure compliance with financial procedures and processes. Collaborate with the Programme Coordinator to explore and establish opportunities for external funding and income generation.
• Ensure that the Offshoots and other Great Outdoors locations are secure and suitable for Newground staff, volunteers, and participants. Oversee the completion and documentation of all essential health and safety, environmental, and legal compliance protocols and checks for the Offshoots Site.
• Perform Risk Assessments for all activities and initiatives before they occur, documenting and storing them in the designated Management System. Make sure any faults or issues are communicated to the Programmes Coordinator and relevant health and safety representatives. Guarantee that the Offshoots site is secured at the end of each day by monitoring access and site security during operating hours.

We are looking for someone who has…

• A Full UK Driving licence and access to a vehicle for work
• Willingness to work outside of standard hours, including evenings and weekends, is required. Your standard working hours will total 37 hours per week. During the summer months, from April to October, you will work 30 weeks from Sunday to Thursday, and in the winter months, from November to March, you will work 22 weeks from Monday to Friday.
• Experience of project management including monitoring financial budgets and monitoring outputs against set targets
• Experience of working with families and / or children and young people
• Experience of developing and running a volunteering programme, recruiting volunteers, and running volunteer groups
• Experience of Environmental and / or Outdoor Education in a formal or informal situation.

We are seeking a new Finance and Administration Officer following the upcoming retirement of a long-serving team member. A key member of the SLA central office team, the Finance and Administration Officer plays a vital role in ensuring smooth financial operations and providing essential administrative support for our membership. In addition to administration support, this role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, book-keeping and effective day-to-day financial operations, producing financial reports using XERO and our CRM.

You will be experienced in financial and administration operations of a charity or similar , with an AAT qualification or matching worked experience. Familiarity with XERO will be an advantage. You will be able to bring understanding of cashflow and financial analysis of figure, working with accountants as required.

You will also have excellent customer service skills and be able to work effectively with all stakeholders from our members, to funders to suppliers. You will be determined and have an excellent eye for financial and administrative detail. Your duties will include general administration and:

Financial operations and record-keeping

• Manage day-to-day financial transactions and maintain accurate records of all SLA accounts and petty cash; book-keeping
• Process and record all incoming payments, including foreign cheques (into bank account)
• Monitor cashflow and expenditure, keeping track of spending
• Pay invoices upon approval and ensure timely monthly payments (e.g. pensions, HMRC)
• Handle creditor and supplier communications and resolve related issues
• Monitor and follow up on overdue payments with a focus on membership payments

Invoicing and income tracking

• Issue and track membership and subscriber invoices and reminders
• Keep office team informed of payment statuses
• Prepare sales, cost, and profit reports for SLA publications
• Conduct annual publications stock take

Payroll and reporting

• Liaise with the accountant on salary payments; process salary BACS payments
• Support year-end financial reporting by providing necessary documentation to accountants
• Produce regular financial reports and analysis as required
• Supporting preparation of budgets, working with accountants as required

 Event financial administration

• Manage financial aspects of SLA events, particularly the annual conference (e.g., exhibitors, sponsors, and delegates)
• Process and record staff/trustee expense claims
• Support with bookings accommodation and travel for Board meetings

To be successful in this role you should demonstrate:

• Strong experience in financial and office administration
• Knowledge of accounting principles  
• Experience of working with XERO or similar
• Experience of using CRM systems (ideally IMIS)
• Experience of working for a small charity and / or membership association
• Accuracy, numeracy, attention to detail
• Ability to manage own workload, prioritise and meet competing deadlines
• Excellent customer service manner
• Being a team player
