Therapeutic wellbeing coordinator jobs

The St Matthew’s Project is looking for a passionate and experienced Wellbeing and Outreach Worker to help strengthen our trauma-informed approach and support young people through our Fit 4 Life programme.

This role is at the heart of our work with young people facing disadvantage and navigating key transition points in their lives. You’ll deliver 1:1 and group wellbeing support, work closely with families, contribute to staff wellbeing, and help shape a supportive, trauma-informed environment across the organisation.

We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience supporting young people affected by trauma, strong relationship-building skills, and an understanding of community-based work.

Candidates with lived experience is valued.

The ideal candidate will have or be working towards an advanced qualification in psychology, counselling, or mental health.

The role includes a mix of weekday, evening, and Saturday sessions across community settings in Brixton / Tulse Hill.

                                                                          Purpose of the Role:

Working collaboratively with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust the successful candidate will be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating structured programmes of therapeutic, educational, and recreational activities for women in acute settings, supporting recovery, wellbeing, skill development, and positive risk-taking within a safe and trauma-informed environment. Working under the established Disability and mental health team at CACT, this project is the latest example of creative initiatives produced by this successful collaboration of voluntary and public sector.

                                                              Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):

 • Design and deliver a varied programme of meaningful, structured activities (e.g. creative, physical, educational, life-skills, wellbeing-focused).

• Promote engagement, motivation, and inclusion, adapting activities to meet individual needs, abilities, and risk profiles.

• Work in a trauma-informed and gender-responsive way, recognising the complex needs of women in secure settings.

• Maintain safety and security at all times, following unit policies, risk assessments, and individual care plans.

• Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team (nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, security staff).

• Encourage the development of confidence, social skills, independence, and emotional regulation through activities.

• Monitor attendance, progress, and outcomes, contributing to care planning, reviews, and reports as required.

• Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with organisational and legal requirements.

• Support service users to develop skills that aid rehabilitation, recovery, and preparation for step-down or discharge.

• Ensure all activities comply with health and safety, equality, and safeguarding standards. 

Genuine Occupational Requirement: This position is restricted to applicants from women under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010. This is essential to provide specific services to women within acute settings who have experience trauma, often gender based violence

We are looking for a skilled and organised Programme Coordinator to join our delivery team and help deliver programmes that are meaningful and impactful for young people. More about the role: This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of our programme delivery. You will spend much of your time working directly with young people, helping them engage fully in farm life through the shared routines and activities of the day, from feeding rounds and walks to mealtimes and evening activities. You will also lead sessions and bring practical skills that enrich the programme experience.

Alongside this, you will build and maintain strong relationships with partner schools and organisations, helping to create programmes that are well coordinated and have lasting impact for young people.

About you : We are looking for someone with professional experience working with diverse groups of young people, with exceptional communication, teamwork and organisational skills. You will be able to build strong relationships with a wide range of individuals and organisations, influence and motivate others, and contribute positively to the wider vision and goals of the charity. Experience in a school, social work or similar setting would be helpful, as would experience of delivering inspiring practical sessions for young people or a specialism that would contribute to farm life.

Job Title: Programme Co-ordinator & Facilitator

Location: Based within HMP Altcourse, Fazakerley, Liverpool. Step Free access is available at this service. You may be expected to travel to other services as required, including to Central London Central Office and for in-person meetings held off site. 

Salary: £32,000

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 07:45 - 17:15. Please be aware that daily working hours may vary, ranging from 7.5 up to 10 hours, depending on programme delivery requirements. Flexible working may be available, with potentially 1 - 2 days working from home depending on programme delivery. You may be required to work outside these hours as per participant and service requirements.

About the Role

We're hiring a Programmes Coordinator & Facilitator to join our Safe Ground team based in HMP Altcourse. The role involves delivering arts based interventions aimed at supporting participants in their personal development, family relationships, and rehabilitation.

In this role, you’ll help set up, deliver  and review arts‑based, therapeutically informed programmes that support men in custody with personal development, family relationships and rehabilitation. You’ll work directly with programme participants, using creative group sessions and person centred approaches to meet individual and group needs. You’ll also work closely with colleagues in the Visitors’ Centre, prison staff and wider teams to make sure our programmes run safely, smoothly and with care. As part of Safe Ground’s flagship Family Service, you’ll be joining a reflective and supportive team of facilitators, counsellors and family support staff. Together, you’ll help strengthen family relationships, support positive change and contribute to a more compassionate, trauma informed culture within the prison.

You will be required to undertake additional training and vetting as per the requirements of the prison. 

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Facilitate and deliver arts‑based, therapeutically informed group programmes for men in custody.
• Create safe, trauma‑informed and inclusive group spaces that support personal development, rehabilitation and family relationships.
• Coordinate programme set‑up, participant recruitment and delivery, working closely with colleagues and prison staff.
• Adapt sessions to meet different learning needs, abilities and backgrounds.
• Build positive, professional relationships with participants, colleagues and external stakeholders.
• Monitor participant engagement and wellbeing, responding appropriately to safeguarding or risk concerns.
• Collect feedback and contribute to programme evaluation and continuous improvement.
• Maintain accurate, timely and confidential records in line with GDPR, safeguarding and organisational policies.

What we are looking for:

• Previous professional or lived experience supporting people who require personal development, rehabilitation and family relationships, an arts‑based, therapeutically informed group programmes for men in custody.
• Demonstrated experience within a prison, criminal justice, or similar setting.
• Skilled in applying a background in arts education, dramatherapy, applied theatre, or education to work creatively and effectively with individuals and groups.
• Ability to engage with people from different backgrounds, build rapport, and empower them to achieve their personal goals
• Ability to engage with people from different backgrounds, build rapport, and empower individuals to achieve their personal goals, including through the use of therapeutic groupwork techniques.
• Ability to use, learn and adapt to IT at an intermediate level, including Microsoft and other software programs
• Ability and willingness to show flexibility of working patterns, responding to the needs of the service and participants.
