About you

We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our friendly events team at the British Ecological Society (BES). You’ll need at least one year’s demonstrable experience in delivering high-profile mid-sized events and conferences. You will need a high-level of organisation and reliability as well as knowledge of Microsoft Office, and experience of using a CRM and a hybrid event platform. We need a clear and concise communicator who can build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and diverse audiences.

You will assist the BES in the organisation and delivery of our events programme, including our flagship scientific conference, the BES Annual Meeting, which sees 1,200 ecologists gather from around the world and share the latest research.

About the role

Reporting to the Events Manager, the Events Officer will:

• In collaboration with the Events Manager, oversee the delivery of allocated parts of the Society’s Annual Meeting, Symposia, and other events.
• Use digital platforms to support event management and delegate experience -including the website, CRM system, conference abstract management system, Eventbrite, Canva, hybrid conference platforms, Excel, Microsoft Teams and Zoom
• Co-ordinate aspects of event planning including venue search, supplier liaison, catering and accommodation.
• Act as the main point of contact for exhibitors and sponsors, post-sales.
• Maintain and update the programme information on the hybrid event platform for the Annual Meeting.
• Ensure that any agreed branding from sponsors is delivered.
• Provide on-site support at events and go on site visits.
• Develop innovative and creative social media content and digital promotion for the Society’s events.
• Evaluate and monitor success of events portfolio, providing and implementing recommendations where appropriate.
• Evaluate and monitor EDI representation at BES events.

Your Job Description 

As a Youth Project Leader, you will: 

• Deliver ReachOut sessions at the same partner school on the same day and time weekly during term time.

• Prepare your ReachOut sessions, following ReachOut’s curriculum and adapting the activities to the needs and interests of your assigned group.

• Facilitate engaging ReachOut sessions for the young people attending by ensuring that the voice of young people is listened to and impacts the way the sessions are planned and facilitated.

• Manage and support a group of volunteer mentors; supporting them to build strong rapport with their mentees and helping them to understand how to best adapt their mentoring approach to the young people they are working with.

• Support theyoung people in your session to reach and be confident in their potential by facilitating the creation of good mentee/mentor relationships and by running activities to build the ReachOut Character Strengths.

• Complete monitoring and evaluation activities to ensure the sessions are as impactful as possible and set up strategies with the help of your line manager to help each young person in your group reach their mentoring goal.

• Keep in touch with the parents/carers of the young people in your group about attendance, successes and challenges.

• Manage your project’s weekly admin by planning your sessions, maintaining your attendance and providing detailed project updates to your line manager.

• Attend ReachOut events and socials with their mentors. • Follow ReachOut’s policies/procedures to safeguard young people.

• Act and communicate in a professional manner, in line with ReachOut character strengths and culture.

Fine Cell Work are looking for an exceptionally supportive and non-judgemental individual to act as the first point of contact and underpin all aspects of Fine Cell Work's post-prison programme, Open The Gate (OTG). 

Beyond skills for employment, OTG offers a range of support to prison-leavers, who we refer to as Apprentices. The Engagement Support Officer will be responsible for establishing sustainable referral pathways with external partners, recruiting OTG Apprentices in line with organisational strategy, and preparing individual risk assessments and tailored support plans. They will also be responsible for the development of OTG’s remote support scheme and for supporting volunteer employment mentors alongside the Volunteer and Programmes Manager.

Our purpose

Fine Cell Work is a rehabilitation charity and social enterprise that teaches prisoners and prison-leavers to make beautiful handmade products.  The making and selling of high quality needlework boosts their self-worth, instils self-discipline and fosters hope.  Our aim is for our stitchers to finish their sentences with work skills, money earned and saved, and the self-belief to not re-offend.  We also guide them towards training and support on release.  At the Fine Cell Work Hub in Battersea, we run our Open the Gate programme which provides work experience, formal training and employment to prison-leavers. 

The role

As well as offering person-centred support and helping to shape our post-release programmes, you would be responsible for:

• Presenting and promoting Open the Gate among external partners including HMP resettlement teams, probation services, approved premises and other organisations supporting prison-leavers on their resettlement journey.
• Assisting with the development of risk management plans including information gathering, dissemination, and regular review.
• Providing day to day practical, emotional, and sign-posting support to a caseload of adult Apprentices engaging with Open the Gate and providing ad hoc support to past Apprentices when required.
• Action planning and setting out individual objectives with all Apprentices, supporting them to achieve work-ready outcomes in an agreed period.
• Working with the team to research and liaise with offender support and employment agencies beyond FCW, signposting Apprentices and supporting mentors with appropriate signposting and referrals to partner agencies.
• Working with the wider team at FCW to develop and coordinate a series of employability and creative wellbeing workshops for Apprentices.
• Ensuring timely, accurate, and safe recording of all information and personal data.
• Responding to safeguarding concerns in line with FCW policy and procedure.
• Providing remote support via telephone and online to FCW experienced prison-leavers who do not live in London and the Southeast.
• Supporting the Volunteer and Programmes Manager with delivering the Service User Involvement Strategy and championing service user involvement across the organisation more broadly.
• Supporting the Volunteer and Programmes Manager to recruit and deliver training to mentors and other volunteers in roles supporting OTG Apprentices.
• Working with the Volunteer and Programmes Manager to develop and enhance the OTG Mentor Offer including as the first point of contact for Mentors pre- and post- mentoring sessions.

About the position 

This is an exciting opportunity to create change at scale, informing and promoting a practical transition to plant-based diets, in order to reduce the number of animals suffering in factory farms. Part of our Farmed Animal Campaigns team, the role will work to increase the quality and availability of plant-based options with major caterers and universities in the UK, impacting hundreds of thousands of meals daily. 

This role also includes an opportunity to support the delivery of a campaign to end the use of farrowing crates, one of the worst forms of cruelty to farmed animals in the UK today. In this role you will support the Senior Manager for Farmed Animal Campaigns to create public-facing campaign assets, and develop compelling research to underpin our policy and industry engagement.

Key areas of responsibility:  

• Initiate and maintain relationships with universities, food service companies and public sector institutions to support and oversee their delivery of goals to reduce meat/animal products  

• Work with consultants to develop and deliver our Forward Food culinary training programme to food service professionals, to support their understanding of plant-based food and marketing, and their role in the just protein transition.  

• Identify and support opportunities to encourage people to eat fewer animal products, including working with media and celebrity ambassadors. 

• Conduct environmental impact assessments on menus and food procurement to effectively monitor and report on progress towards meat-reduction goals 

• Deliver compelling and informed advocacy to UK political stakeholders to encourage the adoption of policies that catalyse a just protein transition and better farmed animal welfare. 

• Support development and delivery of HSI UK’s farmed animal campaigns strategies  

• Research and present on industry-related trends and developments in the plant-based food market and alternatives to cage confinement.

We are looking for an exceptional Centre Manager to help us ensure that everyone who works in and visits our Centre is well looked after and has a fantastic experience. 

The role is based at our beautiful Grade 2 listed building in Southwark. We will consider either a full-time application for a period of maternity cover, or a part-time job share of the role, with the potential to extend beyond the initial period of maternity cover. Our Centre houses an amazing collection of 25,000 children’s books as well as being a training and event centre for teachers, publishers and everyone else who works with children’s literature and cares about children’s literacy.

• Ensure efficient processes and quality facilities are in place to support the daily operations of our staff, our visitors and other organisations that share our building

• Be a welcoming and generous host for visitors to our Charity and for event hires at the Centre
• Support the DFO in maintaining HR systems and processes that adhere to best practice
• Ensure our staff have the tools available to do their best work by overseeing the outsourced IT support company and maintaining our IT systems and assets.

About the role:

Kinship is in our third year of delivering the first national peer support service for kinship carers in England. We are looking for a new Associate Director of Peer Support and Community to build and develop our model and to take the team to the next phase of growth and impact.

Your first priority will be to oversee delivery of the Department for Education national Peer Support Service contract in England. You will lead the development of our hub and spoke model, with an enhanced offer of national resources and support together with a continued focus on on-the-ground support for kinship carers to set up and sustain a network of peer support groups. You will ensure all members of the team have clarity and are empowered to meet new targets and ways of working.

The role will also lead on the strategic development of peer support approaches in Wales (for which we are seeking funding), ensuring innovation and good practice is shared across the nations.

Kinship peer support groups are powerful levers for change in local, regional and national ecosystems. Your team will ensure that every kinship carer in England and Wales has access to a peer support group, or support to set up and create their own. The team will be purposeful about offering developmental support to all kinship peer support groups, including independent groups, ensuring they remain or become sustainable. And that they have resources, training and peer networks to support this.

Reflecting our strategic focus on developing our Kinship Community of more than 10,000 kinship carers across England and Wales, you will lead a new community strategy, co-ordinating the development of opportunities for community connection and community power. This will include taking leadership for developing the Kinship model of community engagement and integrating across all our ‘in person’ and digital services and activities.

You will ensure a collaborative approach with services, alignment with national and local campaigning activity, and work closely with marketing and communications colleagues to support kinship carer reach and engagement with our community offer.

We’re taking an integrated approach to our services, so you’ll collaborate well across teams to ensure that support groups and their leaders have easy access to high quality advice, information and training. The team will need to work closely with colleagues delivering our new training and support contract, funded by the Department for Education.

Key responsibilities include:

• Innovation of the Peer Support Service.

• Develop and rollout peer support and community strategy and operational plan. 

• Implement monitoring and evaluation and impact tools for timely and accurate reporting of activity and engagement.

• Work with the Development team to develop proposals for the community and peer support which are ready for fundraising and business development.

Essential requirements include:

• Substantial experience in scaling a national service or programme with high quality outputs. This includes overseeing delivery, strategic planning, budgeting, managing delivery, meeting KPIs, stakeholder engagement and reporting to funders.

• Experience of governance and managing risk on high profile service delivery.

• Experience of effective budget management.

• Significant experience of leading the development and delivery of peer support services.

As our Senior Research & Participation Officer, you will be working on an exciting new project to improve primary care access for residents. Your flair for planning and logistics will enable you to both gather evidence about the experiences of Barnet residents, and to collate existing data. You’ll also be comfortable producing accessible how-to guidance, to enable people experiencing health inequalities to access services.

The role will involve building effective relationships with stakeholders including GP Practice Managers, voluntary sector organisations and NHS Integrated Care Board partners. You will work with these stakeholders constructively and persuasively, to seed partnership initiatives and achieve positive change for Barnet residents.

As digital content officer, you’ll design, edit and optimise our web content to help our users feel empowered throughout their breast cancer experience.

From personal stories and blogs to landing pages and webforms, you’ll support teams across the charity and lead the content creation for some of our key projects and campaigns.

You’ll know content design, search engine optimisation (SEO), user experience (UX) and accessibility best practices like the back of your hand and be able to advise teams on the correct approach for their pages. And with support from our digital analytics manager, you’ll be able to advise teams on how to improve their content to drive conversions. 

Not only will you be able to take the lead, but you’ll also be a team player. You’ll be able to take direction from the digital content manager on bigger projects and collaborate with other members of your team. 

You’ll join the team at an exciting time as we’re amid our digital transformation project. You’ll play a key role in moving our content from the old to the new website. You’ll also help set the standard of content on the new website by training teams on new processes on the new CMS and coaching them on web best practices. 

This role is a 12 month fixed-term contract.
