Job summary

The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) is a Society of over 1,700 members from 100 countries, who work in, or are interested in tropical medicine and global health.

RSTMH organises and participates in events as a crucial way of showcasing, discussing, and debating key areas of tropical medicine and global health research and practice. Our range of events are wide. We deliver conferences and webinars, social events, research meetings for early career professionals, and high-profile debates and discussions. They happen across the UK and around the world, both online and in person. Our events add to the impact of our work in tropical medicine and global health, but also raise funds to allow us to continue our work as a charity.

The Meetings and Events Manager would lead on the delivery of the RSTMH meeting and events strategy. The role requires a self-starter who is excited by the prospect of working on such a broad range of meetings and events. The candidate needs to have excellent communication and relationship building skills, and to be organised, flexible with a great attention to detail. They should be comfortable liaising with venues for meetings space, developing budgets for events, managing logistical aspects of the events programme and setting up new events online and in person. 

Main responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for the meetings and events programme, achieving its financial and other goals and KPIs under the existing strategy
• Overall responsibility for the delivery of the events with a focus on expanding global reach, supporting careers, and improving the financial position
• Manage events from conception to completion - delivering events to the highest standard to meet their objectives of success – quality and cost effectiveness
• Attend the Meetings and Events Committee, optimising meetings including helping set the agendas, leading discussions, writing minutes, liaising with the Chair
• Assist to identify, appoint, and manage Scientific Chairs, Committees, and Sub Committees to secure event speakers, secure attendees and sponsors
• Overall management of the income being delivered from ticket sales, sponsorship and other income streams linked to meetings and events, with support from line manager and CEO
• Responsible for the income and expenditure budgets and monthly reforecasts for our meetings and events, and ensuring accurate financial record keeping
• Support and train colleagues to run meetings and events online.
• Work with the team to develop all event materials – physical and digital
• Work with CEO and Senior Manager to identify sponsors, develop proposals and negotiate income
• Produce comprehensive event briefings for speakers, team, and Board
• Support and attend events, sometimes out of office hours, in and out of the UK
• Evaluate and report on the success of each event and consider areas of improvement
• Ensure up to date event information is publicised on the website and on other RSTMH channels
• Work with the team at RSTMH to develop and implement a marketing plan for events
• Manage all event enquiries, from external and internal stakeholders
• Liaise with and manage relationships with event stakeholders internally and externally, including suppliers, members, committees, Board, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors
• Work with the Membership Manager to maximise the engagement of event attendees in RSTMH’s work, and conversion of events attendees to be members
• Develop processes to ensure we capture all data from events, through our CRM
• Ensure efficient processes exist for ticket sales, paying expenses and invoices and all other aspects of RSTMH meetings and events
• Develop longer-term event strategy for RSTMH
• Document and maintain accurate process and guidance documents for the Meeting and Events role.

The Direct Marketing Manager has operational and strategic responsibility in developing and implementing the Islamic Relief UK direct marketing programme. This includes the following key direct marketing channels: Email, SMS, Direct Mail, OOH and DRTV. Purpose of Post

The Community Outreach Worker (Complex Needs Housing Service) provides advice, information, onward referral and holistic support to clients who are experiencing mental ill health or need support with their mental wellbeing. They ensure that the safety and wellbeing of the client is monitored and reviewed regularly, they remain a source of independent support for all clients and they will embed a person centred recovery orientated and trauma informed approach in all aspects of the role.

About the Service

The Complex Needs Housing Service works as a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) with housing teams and Drug and Alcohol Services across District and Borough councils. These teams will be working with individuals who are presenting as homeless and have a number of Complex Needs.

Service Objectives

• To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental ill health.
• To increase early access to help for people experiencing mental ill health in, by providing a clear and effective pathway to services provided by Herts Mind Network and other third sector and statutory providers.
• To contribute to an improvement in individual mental wellbeing.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• To reduce the use of police, ASB, tenancy enforcement, housing needs and environmental health services by clients whose primary need is related to mental ill health.
• To reduce the use of crisis services by people experiencing mental ill health with positive outcomes for the individual.
• To provide an assertive outreach approach for clients who are in crisis and/ or those that may have complex or multiple needs.
• To work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) consisting of Change Grow Live (CGL), District and Borough councils, housing teams and other professionals.

The service offers specialist support to homeless men across a range of areas including re-offending behaviour, mental health issues, physical health needs and substance misuse. Edward Alsop Court implements and promotes the Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) model. This is an approach to supporting people out of homelessness, those who have experienced complex trauma or are diagnosed with a personality disorder. It also considers the psychological needs of staff: developing skills and knowledge, increasing motivation, job satisfaction and resilience.
As a maintenance worker, you will be responsible for small responsive/maintenance items (for example replacement of bulbs, batteries, tightening of screws etc) to internal elements and components; PAT test items; internal decorations; cleaning of communal spaces; removal of minor items; fixture and fittings such as shower curtains, mirrors, bathroom fittings (toilet seats, toilet rolls holders etc); assembly furniture; bins removal; there will be a weekly rota with tasks allocated to each day which will be given weekly; support with shopping deliveries.

The working hours for this role is: Monday to Friday 8am-4pm

* Carry out weekly checks (water checks, fire call points check, fire doors check, lint removal from laundry room, emergency lights check, fire extinguishers check, communal areas check, courtyard cleaning, fire escapes check).

You will manage and coordinate a team of highly skilled and dedicated clinicians, in the service delivery of a range of NICE guideline recommended therapy interventions, offered to our clients, who are survivors of torture and organised violence.

You will report to the Head of Clinical Services, London and operate as an integral part of the London Clinical Services Team. This is an exciting chance to join us as we place survivor empowerment and movement building at the heart of our four year strategy, and work together to increase the number of clients who can access our services. About the role

This is a wide-ranging position, and your key areas of responsibility will include:

• To manage a multi-disciplinary team, including paid staff and volunteers from different professions and disciplines and provide professional and clinical supervision to qualified clinicians and trainees in the service including, clinical/counselling psychologists. This role may also include providing remote clinical supervision to clinicians in our other regional centres (North West England and Scotland).
• To ensure that Freedom from Torture's clinical model continues to be fully rolled out, with particular emphasis on survivor empowerment and evidence-based practice for addressing PTSD and other mental health impacts of torture.
• Championing people development as well as influence delivery of evidenced -based practice, clinical standards, quality initiatives and audit based services.

About you

This is an important role within Freedom from Torture. To be successful in this role you must have a high level of commitment to maintaining excellent standards of client care and service delivery. It is a key requirement that you must have knowledge of appropriate clinical standards and external regulatory bodies. You must also have sound financial awareness and experience of balancing the provision of quality care against budgetary parameters.

To be considered for this role you must be a Psychologist registered with HCPC and have qualified with a doctorate or equivalent in either clinical or counselling psychology. You must have professional experience of working with clients with complex PTSD and have post-qualification experience of using evidence-based trauma focused therapy models. It is essential that you have a clear understanding of the experience of refugees and people seeking asylum, both in terms of pre-flight experience and the experience of living in exile. You must have previous management and supervision experience and be able to provide demonstrable examples of how you have successfully led and influenced clinical teams within community or health care settings.

• Lead performance & improvement: Monitor KPIs (move-on rates, tenancy sustainment), refine supervision and quality assurance, and implement our move-on strategy.

• Inspire your team: Foster a positive, proactive, and solution-focused culture.

• Maximise sustainability: Ensure rental income and effective arrears management.

• Strengthen partnerships: Collaborate with commissioners, housing partners, and support services.

• Ensure compliance: Uphold safeguarding, health & safety, and risk management standards.

What You’ll Bring

• Proven leadership in supported housing or homelessness service settings

• The ability to effectively lead and inspire a team

• Experience with contract delivery, KPIs, and outcomes-based commissioning

• Strong financial and budgetary skills

• Knowledge of safeguarding and trauma-informed practice

• A collaborative, values-driven approach and commitment to continuous improvement
