About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Transport Volunteer for the Ayrshire Group. As a Transport Volunteer, you will help make sure people with MS can access activities and events, by setting up relationships with local transport providers.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You will understand the local area and be confident to liaise with organisations that provide local transport.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys helping people and talking to them on the phone, to join a friendly, sociable team and make a real difference to the lives of local residents needing support to get to vital medical and other appointments. You will be familiar with using a computer but training and ongoing support will be given by our small team of paid staff.

We are looking for a volunteer on Monday mornings to take telephone requests from clients and to enter all the bookings into an online booking system, to liaise with volunteer drivers to allocate the drives effectively and to update the system whenever necessary regarding any changes to client/drivers situations. Excellent communication skills and a basic knowledge, and experience, of using Outlook and Excel are essential and full training will be provided on the booking system (CATTS.) Time commitment is 9:30am – 1pm on Mondays, plus possible other ad hoc cover for holidays and sickness if available. 

Title: Dementia Support Volunteer

Hours:  Tuesday mornings 10am – 12.30 & Tuesday afternoons 12.30 – 3pm (Mytchett) also Thursday mornings 10am – 12.30 & Tuesday afternoons 12.30 – 3pm (Japonica Court, Ash)

Supported by: Dementia Outreach Worker / Charlotte Lawrence (Manager) and Beverley Caldwell (Coordinator) at both locations.

Tuesdays:  The Mytchett Centre, 140 Mytchett Road, Camberley, GU16 6AA (Ash Vale / Aldershot / Farnborough Area)

Thursdays:  Age UK Surrey office, Japonica Court, Shawfield Road, Ash, GU12 6QX

Main Duties:

Morning - Assisting Dementia Outreach Worker to facilitate a Memory Lane session for people living with dementia or mild cognitive impairment (sessions to help maintain memory and mental functioning), this could involve helping with a range of activities such as art, music and reminiscence. Making tea & coffee. 

Afternoon – Assisting Dementia Outreach Worker to facilitate group activity attended by people living with dementia or mild cognitive impairment and their carers – activities could range from quizzes to bingo to arts and crafts. Making tea & coffee. 

Training would be ‘on the job’ learning and specialist Dementia training if necessary; online DBS registration with Age UK Surrey will be provided at no cost. You can choose either location to volunteer.

Transport and Expenses

Unless in walking distance then your own transport will be needed for The Mytchett Centre or Japonica Court. Transport costs reimbursed (keep receipts / record mileage).

Volunteer Drivers Needed or companisionship – GARAS (Gloucester)
Supporting Asylum Seekers and Refugees in the Local Community

At GARAS, some of our clients need extra support to attend important appointments, such as interviews, doctor visits, or meetings at unfamiliar locations. We are currently looking for compassionate and reliable volunteer transport worker to help with these transportation needs.

What the role involves:

• Accompanying clients to appointments

• Meeting clients at bus stops or transport hubs

• Using your own car to help clients access key services

Requirements:

• A full driving licence and access to a roadworthy vehicle

• Willingness to obtain business car insurance (GARAS can support with costs)

• A DBS check (provided and arranged by GARAS)

• A kind, respectful and non-judgmental approach

What we offer:

• Full support and guidance from the GARAS team

• Reimbursement of travel expenses at 45p per mile (petrol/diesel)

• Any necessary costs related to insurance upgrades will be supported

Age UK Notts are seeking individuals who would like to be considered as a volunteer for our Companion Service.

Volunteers will be supporting people remotely, in their own homes and in the community within Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and ideally, we ask all applicants to provide a minimum of 1 hour volunteering a week.

The companion service volunteer can choose to be:

• A companion telephone/video caller                                                               

• A companion within the person’s home

• A companion outside the person’s home

• Or a combination of all three.

Examples of the type of support the service offers include:

• Telephone / video calls for an older person/s on a regular basis at a mutually agreed time for a friendly chat. 

• Supporting an older person/s hobbies and interests or simply chatting with them in their own home on a regular basis.

• Supporting with digital access & building confidence skills & motivation to access the opportunities of the internet.

• Supporting the person outside of their home e.g., by accompanying them on a walk, to the shops, to a café, garden centre, theatre or cinema or other social activities / community groups. 

• Where appropriate, supporting the older person to access other services through information and signposting or referring to the Companion Service Coordinator for support.

We are looking for the following skills/interests:

• Individuals with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of older people who are committed to volunteering on a regular basis.

• Commitment to complete our Volunteer Report Form accurately and regularly. 

• Ability to travel for visits in the local community either by car or public transport for those volunteers who choose to participate in this type of activity.

• Digital literacy for those volunteers who choose to participate in this type of activity.

Please do note, however, that at the moment we are not looking for Volunteer Telephone Companions.

We are looking for volunteers with good daytime availability in specific areas of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

This may include but is not limited to supporting with digital access & building confidence skills & motivation to access the opportunities of the internet.

What are we looking for?

· Individuals with an interest in the wellbeing of older people and who are committed to volunteering

· IT literate with good digital skills and who are confident using different Apple and Android devices (including smart phones and tablets, laptops, and smart speakers).

· Individuals who can work with learners with different levels of knowledge and skill and to be able to demonstrate empathy when needed.

· Excellent interpersonal skills.

· Commitment to complete our Volunteer Report Form accurately and regularly.

· Ability to travel to visits either by car or public transport.

When would you be needed to volunteer?

Volunteering will be on an ad hoc basis to meet the needs of the older person that you are supporting in line with your availability.

What training will you be given?

You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role which will include a thorough departmental induction.
