Many of the dogs in our care have never experienced life in a loving, family home. Can you help them avoid longer in kennels, providing a calm and caring environment whilst we find them a PAWesome forever home?

Overview of the opportunity

As a dog fosterer, you would be supporting the RSPCA in providing our dogs with the safety of your home whilst tending to their welfare needs such as feeding and grooming. In addition to this, by providing a temporary loving environment, you will play a crucial role in a dog’s wellbeing and socialisation, which will significantly improve their chances of successful rehoming.

Once everything is in place, the branch will guide you through the fostering process and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment, food, and veterinary care for your fostered dog. The RSPCA is also happy to reimburse any other pre-agreed expenses that you may incur through volunteering for us.

Whilst our dogs are in your foster care, you will:

· Provide them with care, suitable housing, and a safe environment as per our policies and guidelines.

· Feed, water, and groom them in line with our advice.

· Transport them to any veterinary appointments if required.

· Provide them with your time and patience.

· Help us spread the word about the dogs in your care so they might find their forever home quicker.

· Playing and cuddles are also a must as well as a comfy bed!

What we are looking for in a volunteer Dog Fosterer

· Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience caring for dogs.

· You will need a secure garden and plenty of time to spend with our dog.

· Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.

· For their wellbeing, our dogs need the whole family to be on board and supportive.

· Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they cannot be so, please let us know if this is the case).

What we need from you

Could you help a troubled teenager thrive?

Are you the kind of person who feels helpless when you see negative news stories about young people, or perhaps when you watched the new Adolescence drama series about teenagers and the pressures they face from social media?

The fact that you care when you see or hear these things and feel the need to help could mean that you would make a perfect volunteer mentor for a young person struggling with life as a teenager. 

At Hope After Harm our New Leaf Young Peoples’ project offers a lifeline to vulnerable young people in the Thames Valley Area through our trained volunteers who offer support and guidance when they need it.

All we ask of you is your time. Just commit to one or two hours a week to meet the young person at their school for up to 16 weeks, and to be available to them by telephone at hours agreed between you and them. 

ENGINEERS/MAKERS

Across the UK, our 60+ local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Our network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests each year to design and make customised equipment free of charge.

Our Engineer/Maker volunteers are at the very heart of what our local branches do. They use their practical skills and creativity to help people with disabilities live fuller and more independent lives.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local need shapes what you’ll be working on, but it often includes:

• Designing and making pieces of equipment for individuals with specific needs

• Using your practical skills working with metal, wood, plastic, or electronics (or a combination of them)

• Attending a monthly meeting of the local branch.

We can support you to develop the skills you need for this role, and there’s an induction that covers all the areas above. You’ll also have chance to discuss your role and any additional needs with us.

What you’ll need for this role

Essential

• Practical experience in working with one of the above materials

• Comfortable working with people, listening to them and understanding their needs

This role involves supporting with events in your local area throughout the year.

There is no minimum commitment for the role. Times will vary depending on the requirements of the event. You will be provided with an event brief beforehand to ensure you are happy with the requirements for that activity.

This collections volunteer role involves managing all static collection tins within your local area including identifying opportunities to place a collection tin, emptying the tin and banking the money.

There is no minimum time commitment, but the role requires a level of regular commitment to ensure that tasks are completed.

Time Commitment

Appointments are made for a term of three years. Board members may serve a maximum of three terms (i.e. 9 years in total). 

Being a Trustee of the Wordsworth Trust is a voluntary position, but we will cover travel and other expenses. For those living further afield we appreciate that Grasmere is in a rural location and will arrange overnight accommodation and transport to and from the nearest railway station.

The Trustees hold four board meetings a year with two taking place at Wordsworth Grasmere and two being held online. The Grasmere meetings usually take place at weekends. It is possible to join in-person meetings online, although we hope that trustees can attend in person at least once a year.

Trustees are also encouraged to contribute to committee work and to fundraising activities.  In addition to the above, Trustees will need to give time to study papers in advance of meetings.

Trustees are encouraged to attend Wordsworth Trust events in Grasmere and elsewhere but we recognise that our location may not make this possible on a regular basis.

Canine Partners are looking for volunteers who can provide loving homes for our young dogs, aged 14 months upwards, whilst helping to train them to be canine partners.

By volunteering you will:

• Know that you are integrally involved in the care and training of a dog that will change the life of a person waiting for their Canine Partner
• Benefit from the companionship and enjoyment of having a dog in your life without lifelong commitment or costs associated with dog ownership

What is involved

• Commitment to providing a loving home, care, and training for a dog for the duration of their time in training.
• We consider this a full-time role as you, or another approved adult member of the household, will be required to care for the dog for much of the day and overnight.
• Our trainers need access to the dogs during weekdays for training purposes. We ask that you commute to and from our training centre when required to drop off/collect the dog. Drop off and collection times are between 7.30 - 9.30am and 4-6pm. We try to be as flexible as possible with the times that are best for you.
• Availability to attend pre-arranged training sessions at your home, in your local area, and at our training centre.
• Attend an Introduction session before we coordinate a dog into your care
• With our guidance, and using positive training methods, to continue the training of the dog in various areas. For example:
  • Home behaviour
  • Social behaviour
  • Behaviour around other animals
  • Walking on a lead
  • Off lead exercise
• Maintaining the dog’s health and welfare and, via support and training, to recognise behaviour/health concerns and report them immediately to the dog’s trainer.

What we require from you

• You live within a 30-minute drive of our training centre (post code LE12 9SR)
• That you, as the dog's main carer, are over 18 years of age
• You have a dog friendly secure garden
• Though desirable, prior dog ownership is not required.
• All members of the household are keen to foster.
• There is no more than one pet dog living in your home. The pet dog must be over 12 months of age and would need to undergo our pet dog suitability assessment
• Have the time and ability to commit to the training and care of a young dog. This is a physical role
• Have access to a suitable vehicle to transport the dog
• That you or other approved adult member of the household are at home most of the day, and overnight, to care for the dog
• Attend two training sessions each year
• Understand that the dog in your care remains under the ownership of Canine Partners

Support and Training

• Induction process which includes telephone assessment and home visit
• On-going Instruction and support from our dog trainers. This will be in person, via video link, phone calls, handouts etc.
• Holiday cover and appointments cover can be arranged.

As a Community Emergency Volunteer (CEV), you will be at the forefront of emergency response efforts, working alongside emergency services and other organizations. This role not only allows you to contribute meaningfully during crises but also provides a pathway to progress into more specialized roles within the National Emergency Resilience Support Unit (NERSU) for dedicated volunteers.

Role Overview:
As a CEV, your tasks will vary based on community needs. Activities could range from administrative support, making refreshments, and transporting equipment, to more hands-on tasks like clearing debris from flooding, setting up rest centres, and delivering crucial information to residents. You will always work in small teams or paired with a buddy, ensuring a collaborative and supportive environment.

Skills and Experience Required:
- Must be over 18 years old.
- Applies good common sense in decision-making
- Enthusiastic about helping others in times of crisis.
- Ability to follow instructions to ensure safety.
- Strong teamwork skills, as solitary work is minimal.
- Access to personal transportation is beneficial for attending training sessions and deployments.

Commitment and Location:
The frequency and location of your assistance will vary depending on the nature of the emergency. CEV Units are established for each local council area across the UK, supported by County and Regional Leads. While local deployment is the norm, larger incidents may require travel, though this is voluntary.

Support and Training:
Volunteers will receive an online induction and necessary training to perform effectively. Membership with CAVRA includes essential equipment (Polo Shirt, Hi-Vis Jacket, ID) upon application and payment of the annual membership fee. A CEV Team Leader will be present at incidents to coordinate activities and provide support. Volunteers are covered by the Charity’s Liability Insurance, provided all administrative requirements are met.

This role offers free training, new knowledge about emergencies, and the chance to develop skills not typically encountered in everyday life. It’s an opportunity to meet like-minded individuals, engage in diverse activities, and experience the rewarding nature of volunteering. Your data will be securely managed by CAVRA admin staff. Membership costs £50.00 per year, including your initial uniform and ID. A DBS check, costing £21.50, is required.

CAT FOSTERER

RSPCA OXFORDSHIRE

We’re looking for cat-loving volunteers to play a vital role in helping us improve the wellbeing of the cats in our care whilst they wait to be rehomed. Can you help them by providing a calm and caring home whilst we find their purrfect forever home?

Overview of the opportunity

As a cat fosterer, you would be supporting the RSPCA in providing our cats with the safety of your home whilst tending to their welfare needs such as feeding and grooming. In addition to this, by providing a temporary loving environment, you will play a crucial role in a cat’s wellbeing and socialisation, which will significantly improve their chances of successful rehoming.

Once everything is in place, the animal centre will guide you through the fostering process and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment, food, and veterinary care for your fostered cat. The RSPCA is also happy to reimburse any other pre-agreed expenses that you may incur through volunteering for us.

Whilst our cats are in your foster care, you will:

· Provide them with care, suitable housing, and a safe environment as per our policies and guidelines.

· Feed, water, and groom them in line with our advice.

· Transport them to any veterinary appointments if required.

· Provide them with your time and patience.

· Help us spread the word about the cats in your care so they might find their forever home quicker.

· Playing and cuddles are also a must!

What we are looking for in a volunteer Cat Fosterer

· Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience caring for cats.

· Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.

· For their wellbeing, our cats need to be kept in a separate room, so the whole family should be on board.

· Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they cannot be so, please let us know if this is the case).

It is worth mentioning that our cats do have different needs as whilst some are ready for rehoming others may require rehabilitation or ongoing medication. Therefore, we also aim to understand your situation and circumstances to ensure that we match you with your perfect foster cat.
