Role Description

We are looking to appoint an Honorary Treasurer who will bring new energy, new ideas, new perspectives, and challenge to enhance our financial management and development as a charity.

The Treasurer will be a Trustee and Director (SPAEDA is a charity and a company limited by guarantee) with particular responsibility to the Board for:

• Fulfilling the same role as any Trustee and Director
• Working closely with the Chair on issues relating to regulation and good governance
• Monitoring the financial administration of the charity and advising fellow trustees on all matters financial
• Overseeing the charity's financial risk-management
• Acting as a counter signatory to SPAEDA's bank accounts and as necessary on applications to funders
• Liaising with our accountants, particularly in supporting the production of the annual accounts

Role Overview

We are a small charity and handle a moderate number of transactions each month using an online accounts package (Xero). We have an online bookings system handled through our website and online payments system (STRIPE). Book-keeping is managed in house by the Business Manager. Monthly payments approval would be required, supporting the preparation of quarterly management accounts. More input in March and April for preparation of the year end accounts and additional support in January - February would be welcomed to develop budgets, templates and invoice codes for the coming year.

Routinely, we look to our Treasurer for:

Monthly - Approval of online payments, review of management accounts and reserves, monitoring cash flow

Quarterly - Preparation of board reports (quarterly management accounts), review of reserves, preparation of latest estimate

Annually - Preparation of annual budget and draft accounts for independent review

On a Project Basis - Supporting our Director and Business Manager with financial aspects of bids and applications – project budgets, customised spreadsheets and assisting with reporting templates and coding of invoices (as new projects start)

Our financial year runs from 1st April – 31st March with the reporting deadline of 31st December.

Time commitment

Up to 5 hours a month. The Board meet every other month.The Treasurer would ideally step in as Chair of the Funding & Business Planning sub group which also meets bimonthly.

We exist to support and empower those bereaved and injured by road crashes and their families; to improve the justice system’s post-crash response and to spare future generations from preventable death and injury. Following its 30th anniversary, Roadpeace is looking towards the next chapter and after reviewing how to develop and strengthen the charity, is in the process of creating a new strategy.

 The treasurer has responsibility for the financial affairs of the charity and works closely with the board and the CEO to safeguard Children with Voices’ finances.

The treasurer will have:

·General financial oversight.

·Be responsible for financial planning and budgeting.

Treasurer needed for an established psychotherapy charity. We are part way through a change process at Share having moved premises in 2023. We are developing and strengthening our clinical services, improving our administrative and business systems and strengthening our financial position. The Pirate Castle is looking for a Treasurer.  We are an iconic Camden-based community boating charity, established for 55 years.  Our well-known castle building sits on the banks of the Regent's Canal.  We rent out our community space and offer a range of watersports.  Kayaking and canal boating are core to our work and we strive to tackle disadvantage and support our community by offering subsidised sport and recreation.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fiancial analysis or accounting, ideally with a professional accountancy qualification.  Previous experience in a Treasurer role would be an advantage.

Set up in 1993, we support families with at least one child under five in Bracknell Forest. We are an independent charity, and although associated with the federation of Home-Start UK, our trustees independently govern our direction and manage our finances. As the cost of living crises impact on families, we’re needed more than ever; our trustees are planning our future, and need good financial governance in order to survive and grow.

Our income in 2024/25 will be ~£140k, so we’re a small charity, with a big impact.

The role and what we are looking for in a new Treasurer 

Our Board includes people with experience and skills in support for Early Years; we’d expect our new Treasurer to have empathy with our cause and the families we support.

As someone with a professional background in accounting or finance, you’ll use your expertise to help ensure sound fiscal decision-making across all Home-Start Bracknell Forest projects.  We’d strongly welcome your financial or bookkeeping qualifications, although our finances aren’t complex. An understanding of how charity finance works is important, of course, with the ability to communicate financial information clearly, especially to other trustees. Support from our employees is always available, as they will be dealing with the day-to-day finances.

 You don’t necessarily need prior experience of charity trusteeship, as support from local charity-support organisations is always available. Full induction to our organisation will be provided, plus specialist support as a new trustee including access to external training.

We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We are looking for fresh expertise and experience from a variety of backgrounds to our charity. We want to expand the diversity of our Board, and strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups. 

The focus of a trustee role is strategic, and trustees will not be expected to get involved in the organisation’s operations on a day-to-day basis; however, contact and liaison with other trustees and employees is expected.   

We ask for about eight hours per month, although that may vary throughout the year, increasing at Year End and AGM, reducing at other times; that includes preparation for and attendance at Board meetings.

You will need access to digital communications, as much of our charity’s business is run that way.
