We are looking for a team player with experience of finance and fundraising best practice, preferably within the charity sector, to join our Board of Trustees As we continue to expand our services, our new Treasurer will help us to develop our procedures and strategies to ensure we maintain good governance. Applicants must also be prepared to take on the wider responsibilities of becoming a charity Trustee.

​This is a hands on role which requires close working with our CEO, Finance Manager, Chair of Trustees and Accountants. You will help us to review and implement new financial processes and budgeting procedures, develop new investment and fundraising policies and ensure that we operate in line with best practice. As a Trustee you will also contribute to the organisations wider mission and strategy and oversee the running of the Charity.

MAMA Youth Project (MYP) aims to equip young people from 18-25 years of age with the skills and experience to secure long-term, fulfilling employment in the TV and media industry. We particularly focus on young people from under-represented groups and those with limited educational or employment opportunities, including unemployed graduates. •  Monitor the overarching strategic management of the organisation’s financial resources, and report to the CEO and the board. 

• Oversee the charity’s financial risk-management process and report financial health to the board of trustees at regular intervals. 

• Act as a counter signatory for online banking and applications to funders.

Main Responsibilities 

• Ensure all strategic plans are financially appraised and budgets are aligned to both short-term and long-term objectives each year. 

•  Suggest alternative scenarios while evaluating strategic plans as part of the risk management process and as part of performance and reporting scenarios. 

• Ensure a high standard of management accounting is maintained in order to support informed financial decisions and efficient management of daily operations. 

• Support the COO  to prepare, produce and monitor the management accounts regularly.

  Time Commitment 

  The board meets a maximum of 4 times a year and the Treasurer is expected to be available for all meetings, in person or virtual – dates agreed in advance. 

• The Treasurer will Chair the Finance Sub-Committee which meets every month, and sit on the HR & Recruitment Sub-Committee as agreed in advance. 

• Board meetings are conducted at either the Charity office or virtually, by prior agreement

Background 

Home-Start North and West Gloucestershire exists to offer support to families with children under 5 living in Tewkesbury, Cheltenham and the Forest of Dean. We are part of Home-Start UK. 

Thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers and staff, we are able to work alongside parents and help them navigate the challenges they are facing in their parenting journey to help give children the best possible start in life. 

The Treasurer and Trustee Role 

We are looking for a treasurer to join the Board of Trustees and to take the financial lead on our board.  The ideal candidate will have experience of finance management and is able to help ensure the right operational and strategic decisions are made for the long-term future stability of the charity. 

Key Responsibilities:  

• Liaise with the Home Start Team and Trustees to ensure the long-term financial viability of the charity. 

• Present the financial position and broader context at Trustee meetings. 

• Work in partnership with the Operations Manager/Finance Lead and clearly understand the financial needs of the charity giving financial support when required. 

• Oversee the production of our annual budgets and work closely with our accountants.  To also give input when required to our payroll provider. 

• Ensure the Board of Trustees are aware of their financial duties, responsibilities and communicate how they need to comply with all legislation. 

• To work in line with best practice and in compliance with the governing document and legal requirements set out by Home-Start UK.

• Provide oversight and guidance where necessary of accounts prepared for funders and relevant statutory bodies. 

• Act as counter signatory on charity cheques and some applications to funders, approve payments on banking systems and spending approval in accordance with financial management processes. 

• Ensure that all financial policies, procedures and external financial advisors are reviewed when required. 

You should: 

• Have knowledge and experience of accounting and audit practices. 

• Be able to interrogate and interpret financial statements. 

• Be able to communicate financial information in a meaningful and understandable way.

• Have strong working knowledge of accounting software (we use Xero). 

• Have strong attention to detail. 

Time requirement: 

The role will require a time commitment of approximately 10 hours per month.

This includes up to 12 board meetings a year of approximately 2 hours each (some held online and some in our Winchcombe office) and the Home-Start NW Gloucestershire AGM.  

You may also need to attend some meetings with the operations manager, finance lead and our external accountant to ensure clarity of finances and direct where required. 

Term of office: 

The Treasurer’s initial term is two years.

The trustees can then re-elect for a further one, two or three term(s) if the Treasurer would like to continue their position.

About the role

We are looking for a Treasurer with experience of working with not for profits in setting strategic financial direction and it would be desirable if they have experience in complying with the regulations of the Charity Commission for England and Wales or similar regulatory bodies.

You would be joining our board at an exciting time, as we implement our new strategy, build on our campaigns and broaden our advocacy to mobilise greater support and achieve change. In line with this, we have built our model on realistic income forecasts, we plan to maintain the net unrestricted funds available, we are building restricted funding streams to fund our thematic priorities, we continue to align income and expenditure on 6 month, 12 month and 18 month time horizons and we carefully manage the commitment of our remaining surplus reserves.

Responsibilities of the Treasurer

In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee (see below), the responsibility of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation's affairs, ensuring its financial viability and that the organisation has policies and systems in place to ensure robust financial planning, implementation and reporting.  For example, by taking a lead role on behalf of the board in:

• Reviewing budgets, accounts and financial statements, and recommending them to the Board for approval

• Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs

• Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy

• Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place

• Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment policy

We are looking for someone with the following experience and capability:

All trustees need to have the following: 

• Understanding, or commitment to acquire an understanding, of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trustees of a UK charity. Acceptance of these duties, responsibilities and liabilities, and a commitment to operate within them.

• Good, independent judgement and the ability to operate at a strategic level.

• An ability and willingness to work as a part of a team and to support the staff team.

• Understanding and empathy with Family for Every Child’s vision, mission, values and beliefs.

In addition to the trustee person specification, the Treasurer needs to have: 

• Financial and business experience at a senior management or director level

• An understanding of the charity sector, for example an appreciation of the operations, accounting (including SORP) and legal framework in the UK

• Experience in complying with the regulations of the Charity Commission for England and Wales or a similar regulatory body

• Significant experience of financial management and strategy

• Some experience of charity fundraising is desirable

• The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences.

Desirable, but not essential requirements:

• experience of working with or on a board

• a qualified member of a recognised accountancy body 

• Experience of both local and international not for profits.

Time Commitment

This is a substantial and responsible role, and will suit someone able to commit about 18-20 hours three times a year. This includes about 18 hours a year for meetings (which are held on Zoom at a time which is most mutually convenient for attendees in different time zones), as well as time for reading and preparation. 

Board and committee meetings are three times a year, and there may be ad hoc meetings between the regular meetings. If the Treasurer also sits on the board of a subsidiary entity, there are additional three board meetings. In addition, trustees are requested to provide support and guidance to the CEO and other Secretariat staff on an ongoing basis. 

The initial term is a three-year period which can be reviewed by the Board..

Manchester Central Foodbank are a small but rapidly-growing charity at a pivotal moment in our evolution, and we are looking for an exceptional person to take on the role of Treasurer / Trustee.

We have recently established a finance committee, to ensure effective financial controls within our organisation. You will chair this committee of volunteers to support the foodbank in achieving its financial objectives. The finance committee and trustee board both meet every 4-6 weeks. About Manchester Central Foodbank
Manchester Central Foodbank (MCFB) is a Trussell Trust-affiliated food bank, with a centre in Central, North, and East Manchester. We were established in Ardwick in 2013 by students at the Manchester Universities’ Catholic Chaplaincy, making us the first student-led foodbank in the country. Since then we have grown significantly, expanding into Harpurhey and Openshaw, but our goal to end the need for food banks in Manchester has never changed.

General financial oversight:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Kempton Great Engines Trust as we embark on an ambitious programme to showcase Kempton’s vital role in supplying much of London’s water. 

Kempton Great Engines Trust is the governing body for Kempton Steam Museum, the home of the world’s largest working triple-expansion steam engine. The Trust supports day-to-day operations and drives the ongoing development of the museum as a successful and sustainable visitor attraction.

We have plans to expand the museum’s activities with new facilities for visitors and volunteers and the new Treasurer will play a vital role in shaping the approach to financial management in support of these new developments. ABOUT THE TREASURER ROLE
We're looking for a volunteer treasurer to join our valued board of trustees and play a pivotal role in ensuring our organisation is well governed and complies with all financial legislation and good practice relating to charities and charitable income.

Our board meets 6 times per annum combining in-person with remote meetings to benefit all members. We are looking for an experienced financial manager who is based in a commutable distance from Worcester to join our Board as Treasurer. The Board of Trustees

The CCS Board of Trustees are a group of people who represent a range of diverse backgrounds and skill sets. They have oversight of the charity and make key decisions to help steer strategic direction.

The Board meets six times a year, usually in our main office in Taunton or via Teams.

Each Trustee will commit to an additional (estimated) six hours a month. This time may include consultations and input into a range of issues between meetings, usually via email.

As Treasurer, you will chair our Finance sub-Committee and be available for the annual strategy and budget making cycle.

The Green House Bristol is looking for a new Treasurer to join our Trustee board. As Treasurer you will maintain an overview of The Green House’s financial affairs. 

Overview of the role 

3 in 20 girls and 1 in 20 boys will experience sexual violence before they turn 18. Yet, with access to the right help, children and their families can heal and recover. The Green House offers this lifeline, delivering the only specialist service to children, young people and families who have experienced sexual abuse living in Avon and Somerset. 

We are currently recruiting for a new Treasurer to join our Trustee board. As a Trustee of The Green House, you will play a crucial role in setting the strategic direction of the charity and ensuring good governance. You will contribute to ensuring that the charity fulfils its mission, operates effectively, and remains accountable to survivors of child sexual abuse, and their families.

In addition to the general duties as Trustee, as Treasurer you will ensure that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls, and procedures are put in place and report to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. 

Please note that you will also be appointed as a Director of The Green House, reflecting our registration as both a charity and a Private Limited Company.

Although The Green House delivers a local service, the work we do is increasingly leading the way in changing the national response to child sexual abuse – from delivering national training on pre-trial therapy to our involvement in the Upfront Survivors project.

You will be joining an ambitious team who work tirelessly to improve the lives of children, young people and families who have experienced sexual abuse.

About you 

We are seeking a finance professional. You do not need to have specific knowledge of charity finance, although this would be an advantage. You do not need to have previous experience of acting as a Trustee. We are looking for you to demonstrate:

• Advocacy: A willingness to represent the charity and advocate on The Green House’s behalf. 

• Communication: The ability for you to communicate your area of specialism to other members of the board with different specialist knowledge. 

• Time Commitment: The ability to consistently devote time to the role.

Duties of all Trustees 

• Prepare for and attend Board meetings, using your skills, expertise and knowledge to contribute to discussions. 

• Participate in setting the charity’s strategic direction. Contribute to decision-making on key matters, including long-term planning, financial sustainability, and program development. 

• Provide support, learning and challenge to The Green House’s CEO. 

• Ensure The Green House acts in line with its governing document and complies with all relevant laws and regulations. 

• Ensure the charity lives its values (hope, creativity, and connection), delivering accountability to children who have experienced sexual abuse and their families. 

• Monitor operational progress against The Green House’s new strategy. 

• Ensure the charities financial and wider resources are being used effectively and treated with care. 

• Ensure all relevant policies and procedures are in place and are being implemented. 

• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored, and controlled effectively. 

• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect The Green House’s interests, to the exclusion of your own personal and/or any third-party interests. 

• Proactively represent The Green House, building the charity’s visibility and reputation. 

Duties of the Treasurer 

• Oversee the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees 

• Ensure that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.

• Ensure that robust and comprehensive financial policies and insurances are in place, are revised as and when required, and are being implemented.

• Monitor and advise on the financial viability of the charity.

• Oversee and develop financial controls and adherence to systems, regularly liaising with The Green House’s Business Development Manager and CEO. 

• Advise on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process and advising the Trustee Board representative and In-House Fundraising Team. 

• Ensure investments and assets are maximized. 

• Lead on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors. 

• Ensure that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies, including the Charity Commission and the Registrar of Companies. 

• Keep the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities and liaising with the Chief Executive to develop the financial understanding of the Board of Trustees. 

Terms of appointment 

Terms of office 

• Trustees are appointed for a three-year term of office, with renewal for two further terms to a maximum of three years. 

• This is a voluntary position, but all reasonable expenses are covered. 

Time commitment (Approximately 2-4 days a month) 

• Attend monthly Board meetings. These are typically held on a Thursday evening at 6pm. Most meetings are virtual although we do meet in-person on a quarterly basis. 

• Attend monthly Finance and Resources Meetings (max 1hr 30). These are typically held on a Monday evening at 6pm. Most meetings are virtual. Ensuring that there is sufficient time within the month to work with the Business Development Manager to oversee and contribute to any actions relating to the Trustee Board and the role of the Treasurer (1.5 days per month). 

• Additional time is needed to take ownership of actions that arise from meetings (from supporting with recruitment and exit interviews where appropriate, to attending events on The Green House’s behalf). You will also need to be flexible in responding to emergent time-urgent issues when they arise. 

• We also ask Trustees to attend an initial induction day at The Green House, The Green House’s annual Festival of Activism against Child Sexual Abuse (1 day in early February) and spend a strategy day with the staff team (typically 1 day September). From time to time, depending on the nature of the Fundraising activity it may be necessary for Trustee’s to attend fundraising events/meetings with the CEO.
