The Role: Treasurer

As Treasurer, you will play a vital role in ensuring MiEB’s financial health, sustainability, and transparency. You will:

• Guide and advise the Board on financial strategy, budgeting, and risk management
• Chair the Finance & HR Sub-Committee, ensuring robust oversight of financial and operational matters
• Support the Head of Finance and CEO, offering expert insight and challenge on financial planning and reporting

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone with:

• A professional finance qualification or equivalent senior-level financial management experience

We are looking for someone with a recognised financial qualification or substantial relevant charity financial experience to be our next treasurer, to ensure an effective handover from our current treasurer who comes to the end of their maximum term in October 2025.

Although this is an unpaid voluntary position, reasonable travel expenses will be covered.

Treasurer’s Duties

• Provide strategic financial advice, support and challenge to the board, Chief Executive and Head of Finance
• Maintain an overview of the organisation's financial affairs focusing on maintaining the organisation’s financial viability
• Review quarterly management accounts and advise on their implications and any necessary actions
• Represent and advise on all financial matters including the annual report and accounts

Time Commitment
The successful candidate will be required to attend:

• Annual Conference in person, annually in November.

What are we looking for?

• Formal financial qualifications and experience are desirable, and it would be useful to have experience of charity finance.
• As an organisation, we work remotely, using IT solutions such as Teams, Zoom and SharePoint therefore location is not relevant, although you should be comfortable with the use of these technologies.
• The Treasurer must be able to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences and report on these to the board.
• The Treasurer must be willing to be available occasionally for advice and enquiries as appropriate.

This is a hands-on role within a small but ambitious team. The Treasurer will have oversight of Men Who Talk’s financial health, ensuring the charity operates in a financially responsible manner while providing the Board with accurate financial information to guide decision-making. 

Our finances are in a strong position, and we entered the new financial year in April with a healthy cash flow and robust fundraising strategy. Over the last 3 years, we have seen yearly financial growth quadruple year on year, with the 2024/25 financial year bringing in over £40,000 of funding through various streams.

Having received grants from funders such as the National Lottery Community Fund, the Simon Rivett-Carnac Trust and the Caterham Round Table amongst others, we have an agreed budget to spend down our current balance over the 2025/26 financial year, with a focus on ambitious growth across all areas.

The Treasurer will work closely with Sam, our Founder and CEO and Martins, our Operations Manager to identify financial risks, ensure compliance with the Charity Commission and HMRC, and develop strategies to secure the charity's financial sustainability as we expand.

Key Responsibilities

• Attendance at Regular Board Meetings: The board meets four times a year, usually a combination of two online and two in-person meetings. Other ad hoc meetings and catch-ups may be required.
   

• Financial Oversight: Regular monitoring of the financial accounts, ensuring the charity adheres to sound financial practices and complies with UK charity regulations.
   

• Long-Term Financial Strategy: Provide guidance on the financial strategy, including planning and budgeting for future growth and expansion.
   

• Monthly Reporting: Present a top-level Treasurer’s Report to the Board each month, outlining the charity’s financial position, income, expenditure, and risks. Board meetings each quarter will also include more in-depth financial updates.
   

• Budgeting: Support the board and CEO in preparing the annual budget, taking into account the charity’s plans for growth, new services, and the expansion of activities.
   

• Financial Risk Management: Identify potential financial risks and recommend strategies to mitigate these risks.
   

• Compliance: Ensure that financial procedures are followed, including the maintenance of designated and undesignated funds.
   

• Reserves: As a priority for 2025/26, the Treasurer will take a lead on updating our reserves policy and ensuring this is adhered to going forward.
   

• Collaboration: Work closely with the CEO to ensure the charity’s finances align with its goals, particularly as we expand our services and charitable activities over the next three years.
   

• Annual Accounts: The Treasurer will take the lead on the preparation and submission of the annual accounts, working with an external auditor and accountant to ensure the charity’s accounts are transparent and well-maintained.
   

• Financial Procedures: Ensure effective financial controls are in place and help the team implement best practices for financial management.
   

• Advise the Board: Provide financial advice and insights to support the Board in making informed decisions regarding the charity’s operations and growth.

We are looking for a new Honorary Treasurer for the BPA.

This is a good opportunity for someone who wishes to be part of the financial decision-making process of the BPA and to learn how the organisational side of the BPA functions. 

The Hon. The Bike Project’s mission is simple – we refurbish unwanted bikes and donate them to refugees and people seeking asylum, giving them freedom and independence whilst they rebuild their lives.

Most people seeking asylum are banned from working and many are forced to live off an allowance of £8.86 per day and those lucky enough to get refugee status still face high unemployment and isolation. Having a bike links people to essential services, including foodbanks and legal advice, as well as the local community.

The Bike Project has proved that a bike can make a difference. Not only is a bike a practical tool for tackling poverty, those who receive bikes from us report they are more connected in their community, happier and healthier as a result.

Alongside our core Bike Donations Programme, we support refugee women to learn to cycle through our Pedal Power Programme; provide ongoing support with bike maintenance through our Repair or Replace Programme; and offer the opportunity for connection and friendship through our volunteer-matching Bike Buddy Programme.

A number of trustees, including our treasurer, are coming to the end of their terms later this year and as such we are looking for a new treasurer and other trustees to join this dynamic group. 

You will be joining a highly committed group of trustees who give their time, expertise and contacts to support the charity. Our trustees are critical in enabling us to thrive.
