As a Craft Operative for the LSE Region you will play an important role applying to help us improve, maintain, and preserve our wonderful network for our customers to enjoy today and into the future. This will involve undertaking the, refurbishment or repair of canal infrastructure including locks / bridges/ aqueducts / towpaths and associated equipment, working efficiently to defined safety /environmental and heritage standards at all times.
The post holders will be required to work an annualised hour’s system which includes working any 5 days out of 7 rota'd system including statutory holidays and weekends as well as being part of the on-call out of hours rota. Our Craft Operatives in the reactive team cover the whole of the LSE Region so you need to have your own transport and valid UK driving licence.
Contractually the role is based at Adelaide Docks, this role will involve regular travel across the London & South East region.
Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience
As a Craft Operative for the LSE Region you will play an important role improving, maintaining and preserving our wonderful waterway network for our customers to enjoy by efficiently maintaining our locks and other assets along the local network in line with safety requirements and heritage standards.
Responding to business needs, you will enhance the reputation of the network and support Canal & River Trust’s aims to improve safety; protecting the heritage and integrity of the inland waterway network.
Our Craft Operatives perform a unique role; fitting new lock gates as they are replaced, refurbishing or repairing existing lock gates and associated equipment, to ensure it is working efficiently & to defined standards. You will be working with specialist teams and experts in their field as our multi-disciplinary teams work together to improve our waterways and ensure our 200 year old assets can be enjoyed for years to come.
Key responsibilities:
- Working outside, carry out maintenance and repairs works to the waterway infrastructure to ensure network availability is maximised. Repairs will often involve sensitive heritage or environment solutions which the role will be expected to be familiar with. In some instances, the operative will be expected to complete repairs to the highest standard utilising relevant skills and experience.
- Use Bricklayer expertise to undertake the manufacture & refurbishment within a timely manner, in accordance with defined standards and agreed programmes.
- Operate a variety of machinery, plant, tools and other equipment in accordance with Canal & River Trust’s safety standards and where appropriate support in-house maintenance.
- Undertake general housekeeping of personal equipment, workshop equipment and workspace ensuring all are maintained to defined standards.
- Timely response to customers’ queries and requirements, including responding to emergencies.
- Ensure all equipment (PPE, plant, materials etc) is appropriate for the task.
- Operate regionally displaying the appropriate flexibility needed to deliver the nationally prioritised works programme. This will occasionally involve travelling further distances to undertake repair work.
About you
Operative skills are a minimum requirement. Whilst it is also important that you can turn your hand to other skills which will be taught along the way, an understanding of, and high level of competence in certain disciplines are necessary. You may have a background in the building trade, or from a specialist joinery background, where measuring, cutting and joining is all second nature to you.
Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
- Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification (or experience) e.g. City & Guilds Level II, NVQ Level II
- Experience handling plant/equipment in group A eg lifting plant, chainsaw, hand power tools.
- Experience of working within relevant discipline eg Bricklaying, Carpentry, etc.
- Full Valid UK Driving Licence - you will need to be able to respond across the region and get to where the team need you.

- Assist with the implementation and changes made to processes within the Medical Device & Equipment Management Policy across site, for approval via the Procurement and Clinical Asset Manager and Head of Procurement & Contract Management
- Providing the Bed Audit Condition report to Therapy on a quarterly basis
- Overseeing bed/mattress/large equipment moves including those for new admissions with placements and attending admission meetings
- Chairing and planning the CAWG (Clinical Asset Working Group) taking of minutes and actions
- Overseeing clinical asset ticket closures
- Undertake other or additional duties that are within your skills and abilities, as the organisation may reasonably require from time to time.

Responsibilities
In this role you will have 6 key responsibilities:
Financial: Managing a portfolio of high-value relationships and to deliver income at the agreed annual target in the first year with an expectation this will rise year on year.
Management: You will be one of the first points of contact internally for trusts/foundations and individual major donors (IMD) related queries and will work in accordance with the major giving team strategic plan and existing procedures, practices and standards.
Relationship:You will seek to actively develop and manage excellent relationships with an agreed portfolio of trusts/foundations and IMD capable of donating a minimum of £25,000 or more as a single gift each year. In addition you will need to:
- Develop and implement professionally written action plans which will engage, inform and nurture prospects and donors to deliver gifts at the agreed level.
- Undertake timely administration to capture and record knowledge of supporters within the customer relationship management database. Work with the organisation’s systems team to utilise this information to enhance applications and giving levels
- Pro-actively develop relationships with key stakeholders within the MAF organisation(s)
- Present MAF proposals alone or with others, (member of the operational field team, CEO etc), to prospects and donors.
- Participate in events to develop relationships with donors, inviting individuals from portfolios where appropriate and co-ordinate visits to MAF overseas operations where appropriate to introduce these donors directly to the work of MAF.
Information: Information management and analytical thinking is essential as you will present detailed, accurate and high-quality fundraising proposals to prospects and donors, ensuring any specific deadlines or funding windows are complied with. In addition you will need to:
- Ensure that donors are thanked appropriately for their gifts with timely and appropriate reports, letters and phone call.
- Provide timely ‘report backs’ that are appropriate/agreed with each donor, to evidence effective use of funding and to encourage the opportunity to make further applications based on good stewardship and achievement of agreed outcomes.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge, and the funding priority, of projects available for funding by trusts/foundations supporters and prospects.
- Actively seeking to grow the trusts/foundations portfolio and income through the use of research
- Attending regular appropriate training courses, external forums and networks to ensure continuous personal development
Major Donor team (practice/ procedures/training):As a key member of the team you will need to ensure procedures and standards are developed/maintained to ensure we are effective and compliant with any legislation/regulation.
CRM Database: To provide support to the Partnership Executive, who will be the team’s CRM database lead and maintain a thorough working understanding of MAF UK’s CRM system in order to answer specific team queries. You will need to support the teams day-to-day CRM activities including producing reports, importing data, adding activities, amending details and any other relevant tasks

Programme development:

Support the design of Money Ready’s programme development cycles.

Support with the development of the content and standards for all Money Ready programmes; structure, model and design.

Work with the monitoring and evaluation function to understand the impact of how we are designing our programmes.

Gain feedback through the internal ‘looking and listening’ processes to support improvements on programmes, balancing learner, trainer and external views.

Holding responsibility for our Core Subject Knowledge (CSK) quality, ensuring the information is correct and up to date, assisting with the refresh of key information for new and existing programmes. Provide the Training and Development manager any refreshed or new content for CSK when programmes are developed, for them to implement and roll out.
Process implementation:

Deliver the quality assurance programme of Money Ready programmes across the UK; utilising the regional hub structure.

Taking the lead on accreditation, including moderation reporting and resolution of queries.

Support the Money Ready education and accreditation framework ensuring trainers have everything they need to help young people and adults have the best shot at achieving accreditation.

Co-ordinate annual training on the IV process and moderation.

Provide training and support with content and programme development processes.

Manage the development and maintenance of internal tracking systems for use by regional teams to report the QT activities.
External relations

Be the day-day connection to our accreditation partner and support the quality control processes that they implement

Be the best ambassador for our work to all external stakeholders including young people, delivery partners, politicians, funders, the press, the wider education community, local authorities and so on.
