The Landmark Trust is one of Britain’s leading building conservation charities. With the help of our supporters, we save historic buildings in danger of being lost forever. We sensitively restore such ‘Landmarks’ and offer them a new future by making them available to everyone for short breaks. The lettings income from the 200 extraordinary buildings in our care supports their maintenance and survival in our landscape, culture and society. 

Seeking Trustees

With several Board retirements this year, the Landmark Trust is looking to appoint up to three new Trustees.

We are a charity which rescues and restores significant historic buildings; and which makes these available to as many people as possible, for enjoyment and inspiration, through our holiday accommodation business.

Landmark’s Board of Trustees numbers ten individuals with a broad range of expertise and experience.  The common factor is a commitment to the protection of heritage buildings, and to supporting the objectives, ethos, and aspirations of the Landmark Trust.

What does a Trustee do! 

A Trustee’s role is to act in the best interests of the organization. They are accountable for the organization’s finances, legal affairs, overall performance, and serious arising issues. Trustees must ensure that executives align with the organization’s purpose and mission, acting in ways that advance these goals and uphold the organization’s values. Statutory duties include ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding assets, and maintaining accurate financial records.

Commitment

Each Trustee will attend Trustee meetings on a regular basis, a Trustee may also be appointed as a Co Chair and into other roles such as Treasurer and Secretary, and also may join a committee.

Social Trustee

The Trust is seeking an exceptional individual to join the Social Committee of the Board. The successful candidate will bring senior experience, ideally at board level, of  service delivery and/or service evaluation in the social justice, social care and related fields.

The Sir Halley Stewart Trust is a grant-making charity that awards around £1million per year to innovative research and development projects in the medical, religious and social fields. The focus of the Trust’s work is the prevention of human suffering and distress, both in the UK and overseas.

The Trustee Board is comprised of specialists in the Trust’s fields of interest as well as direct descendants of the founder, the pioneering industrialist and philanthropist Sir Halley Stewart.   

The Social committee awards grants that are either practical on-the-ground projects (development projects) or focussed on the practical impact of research findings (research projects), which attempt to:

· Prevent and resolve conflict, promote reconciliation, encourage re-connection between family members.

· Help people to ‘move beyond disadvantage’.

· Help people who may be vulnerable and/or have been exploited.

Recent grants under the social theme have covered housing, modern slavery, asylum and refugees, LGBTQ+, work insecurity, disabilities, the criminal justice system, care leavers, youth services, and loneliness.

Trustees sought by the Prisoners’ Advice Service

The Prisoners’ Advice Service (PAS) is the only independent registered charity dedicated to offering free legal advice and representation to adult prisoners on their rights and prison rules in England and Wales.

At PAS we believe that everyone has the right to be treated fairly, properly and with respect. Prisoners can be ‘ out of sight, out of mind’, or considered to not be as deserving of good treatment as other people – but not for PAS; our reason for existing is ensuring that prisoners can fully exercise their rights.

It is my privilege to be Chair of Trustees for PAS, I believe that the work we do is fundamental to my belief that we judge our society by the way in which we treat the most vulnerable people. Contrary to popular culture, prisoners are some of the most vulnerable, neglected people in our society, and I am proud to be a part of an organisation that helps to protect them.

My fellow trustees are an impressive group of people, actively engaged with PAS, who energise me whenever I meet with them. However, our numbers have dwindled over the past year, as it can been difficult for people to fit in the demands of being a trustee around their busy lives. We also very sadly lost one of our most long-standing trustees to cancer – he is still sorely missed by us.

If you feel that you could offer your skills and experience, but most importantly your commitment and enthusiasm to our cause, we would be very interested in considering you joining us as a new Trustee.

As a Trustee, you will contribute to the strategic governance of the organisation and the setting and monitoring of overall policy; refine strategic priorities; agree targets and budgets; evaluate organisational performance and help the organisation fundraise.

Meetings take place quarterly in central London in the evening (with some virtual attendance), with additional attendance requested at Awaydays and PAS’s Annual Lecture and debates.

PAS does not accept Home Office or Prison Service money as this may affect its independence.

TRUSTEE ROLE DESCRIPTION

Purpose

Trustees collectively hold legal responsibility for the charity, and are entrusted to ensure that the organisation runs in accordance with its constitution, Charity, Company Employment and any other legislation or regulations relating to it.

Trustees set and maintain the overall vision, mission and values of the Charity, evaluating performance against agreed targets, and setting out plans for improvements and changes as needed to ensure that the charity remains a going concern.

We are keen to recruit trustees who have direct experience of the prison system, as we believe this brings a unique perspective to our Trustee Board.

Main responsibilities

With other trustees:

• Act at all times in the best interests of the charity.
• Ensure that the policy and practices of the organisation are in keeping with its aims, fit for purpose and reviewed appropriately.
• Ensure that the organisation functions within the legal and financial requirements of a charitable organisation and strives to achieve best practice.
• Take part in formulating and reviewing the strategic aims of the organisation.
• Contribute specific skills or interests in order to support the committee with 
• Monitor all aspects of PAS’s work, as required by the Chair and Trustee Board
• Oversee employment procedures and respect the roles of staff/volunteers within PAS, and to take interest in the progression of their roles within the organisation.

You will be expected to:

• Attend quarterly management committee meetings, including reading and reviewing all documentation in advance.
• Attend additional reviews, induction training and Awayday sessions as requested (and with sufficient notice).
• Reflect the organisation's vision and principles, strategy and major policies at all times.
• Be an active member of the trustee body in exercising its responsibilities and functions.
• Fulfill such other duties and assignments as may be required from time to time by the Chair.

What we are looking for:

• To have an interest in the welfare and legal representation of prisoners, and a belief in rehabilitation as the primary purpose of prison
• Willingness and ability to commit the required time to undertake Board duties
• Willingness and ability to serve on appropriate formal and informal committees / advisory groups relating to specific functions or projects 
• Willingness and commitment to read, question and understand information about PAS (and its key messages) so as to be an effective ambassador for the organisation

Do you have fundraising, communications, HR, IT or other skills and wish to become a trustee of a pioneering and ambitious charity which funds and develops girls’ education in South Sudan?  Friends of Ibba Girls School (FIGS) works to support a girls’ boarding school which provides free high-quality education for over 300 primary and secondary school girls, providing both education and a source of inspiration for the country.  Boarding provides safety and security for girls in a country emerging from war. FIGS works closely with Windle Trust International, a highly experienced UK charity which provides the practical support on the ground in South Sudan. FIGS must raise £400-500k each year to keep the school thriving, while longer-term plans are put in place for greater self-sufficiency within the country. The trustees are both strategic and operational, as the charity only has 2 employees (1.5 FTE). Fundraising skills and experience are particularly sought and the trustee will need to be prepared to give about eight hours a week to the work. Communications is also important and needs about four hours a week.  HR and IT are both valuable skills but do not have particular time requirements. RNOH Charity is a vital partner in the way the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital delivers care. Since its inception in 1997, the Charity has raised and administered millions of pounds in donations, which have funded numerous essential projects around the hospital.

We are seeking a qualified and practicing legal professional to join our Board and provide legal insight, ideally with a minimum 10 years post qualification experience. You don’t necessarily need to be a specialist in healthcare, but an understanding of legal risk, charity law, commercial, governance, or regulatory frameworks would be valuable.

You will help ensure that we fulfil our legal duties as a charity, protect our interests, and make well-informed decisions—particularly when reviewing policies, commercial agreements, or collaborations with our NHS partners and other bodies. Crucially you will advise the CEO and Board of Trustees when seeking external professional legal advice.

The CHPI was set up in 2011 to study the consequences of UK health and social care being transferred from public ownership and provision to the private sector.

Being a Trustee for the CHPI

The CHPI is a close-knit and committed group of people supporting an organisation that reflects our values. We meet every other month, face to face or online to support the director and oversee the governance of the organisation.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for people who are interested in our work and have one or more of the following:

• Financial expertise and/ or legal expertise relevant to the charity sector

• Experience in delivering, or overseeing the delivery of organisational functions such as fundraising, finance, and outreach

• Experience of stakeholder engagement and networking in health and social care policy and delivery

Roles of a CHPI Trustee

The role of the Board of Trustees in CHPI is to:

• Help to develop the organisation

• Provide support for the Director in the day-to-day delivery of the organisation’s objectives

• Ensure that the organisation meets its statutory duties including in relation to fundraising, financial reporting, budgeting and risk management.

The Bike Project’s mission is simple – we refurbish unwanted bikes and donate them to refugees and people seeking asylum, giving them freedom and independence whilst they rebuild their lives.

Most people seeking asylum are banned from working and forced to live off an allowance of £7 per day and those lucky enough to get refugee status still face high unemployment and isolation. Have a bike links people to essential services, including foodbanks and legal advice, as well as the local community.

The Bike Project has proved that a bike can make a difference. Not is a bike a practical tool for tackling poverty, those who receive bikes from us report they are more connected in their community, happier and healthier as a result.

Alongside our core Bike Donations Programme, we support refugee women to learn to cycle through our Pedal Power Programme; provide ongoing support with bike maintenance through our Repair or Replace Programme; and offer the opportunity for connection and friendship through our volunteer-matching Bike Buddy Programme.

As a number of trustees are coming to the end of their terms later this year, we are looking for new trustees to join this dynamic group, including a new Treasurer (see separate advert and application). 

You will be joining a highly committed group of trustees who give their time, expertise and contacts to support the charity. Our trustees are critical in enabling us to thrive. You and Me Counselling is a charitable organisation established in 2011. We are a counselling and psychotherapy service based in Hornchurch, Essex that works with children, young people, adults, and their families in the boroughs of Havering, Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, and Waltham Forest. Our counsellors and therapists work both within schools and from our counselling rooms located in Hornchurch and Ilford.

You and Me Counselling are an organisational member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). This means we are fully governed by the BACP’s Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

Job Description

As a trustee you will need to:

• Acknowledge emails at least once a day.
• Give a minimum of one hour per week to the role.

The Board

In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board reach sound decisions. This may involve leading discussions, identifying key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, and evaluating or offering advice on other areas in which the trustee has particular expertise.

FitzRoy is a pioneering national charity, providing a range of support to people who need support to enable them to live independent lives. Our vision is a society where people are treated as equals within inclusive communities and empowered to ensure their rights and aspirations are met.

FitzRoy maintains a financially sound organisation , and whilst the majority of our funding comes through the provision of local authority contracts,  the importance of fundraising and philanthropic support cannot be underestimated in this, the most challenging of environments for our sector and the people we support.

The Role

At this time, we are seeking to strengthen our Board by appointing a Trustee with dedicated experience in successful strategic fundraising and knowledge of corporate and philanthropic giving working with major donors, Trusts and Foundations, Patrons and Ambassadors, to help support our strategic objectives.

• Fundraising strategy, collaborate with the Board and Executive Leadership to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the organisations mission, vision and values.
• Work closely to advise our departmental teams on strategic direction to our fundraising and philanthropic efforts.
• Support the organisation in developing our approach to network relationships with existing  and potential new donors, ambassadors and corporate partnerships.
• Provide knowledge and support to our team around grant sources and fundraising opportunities, branding  and campaigns.
• Support the development of projects and causes to help create exciting, sustainable, appealing  asks to funders.

As a Trustee you will have the opportunity to influence our development, and with the other members of our Board, you will be responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Charity.

We welcome applications from communities currently under-represented on our Board, specifically those with Black or Asian heritage and women. We value a range of mixed voices and aspire to a governance which reflects the diversity of our workforce and the people we support.

Trustee experience in the charity or social care sector is not required, and training and mentorship will be available to those interested in developing their leadership skills through being a Trustee.

We do encourage applications from those with a personal experience of learning disability, autism or mental health issues.

This is a voluntary role, with paid travel expenses , requiring approximately one day per month of your time.
