The EAUC is the leading body for sustainability in the post-16 education sector in the UK and Republic of Ireland. We represent 300+ institutions with collectively over 2 million students, nearly 400,000 staff and a spending budget of over £25 billion. We exist to lead and empower the post-16 education sector to embed sustainability in everything it does: equipping learners for their lives and shaping society for the better.

The EAUC board is made up of twelve volunteer trustees. We have one long-standing trustee who reaches the end of their tenure at the July 2024 AGM so we have ONE available trustee position.

The new trustee we are seeking will be passionate and innovative with knowledge or experience in the further education sector, whether this is a college, adult education, employment-based learning or a community-based provision.

Duties

The statutory duties of a trustee board member are to:

· ensure Citizens Advice Westminster complies within its governing document (Articles of Association), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

· ensure Citizens Advice Westminster pursues its objects as defined within its governing document.

· ensure Citizens Advice Westminster applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects.  For example, it must not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects. 

· contribute actively to the board of trustees by giving form strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining foals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.

· safeguard the good name and values of Citizens Advice Westminster, and the national Citizens Advice service.

· ensure the financial stability of the organisation.

Each trustee should use any specific skills and knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. 

This may involve leading discussions, identifying key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, and evaluating or offering advice on other areas in which the trustee has particular expertise or lived experience. 

All trustees are required to complete an induction programme for their role.

 This is a voluntary role and trustees receive no renumeration.  Trustees are entitled to claim expenses for attendance at board and committee meetings, as well as other events necessary for the fulfilment of the trustee’s duties. 

What you need to have?

The candidate must have:

· a commitment to the aims and vision of Citizens Advice Westminster, including a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

· a willingness to meeting the minimum time requirement

· legal experience from either the private or public sector with experience of non-profit organizations.

· a willingness to speak their mind

· an understanding and acceptance of their legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship

· an ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to take decisions for the good of the organisation.

How much time do you need to give?

We would expect trustees to commit to at least five days each year for Board meetings, with additional time is also required for reading papers and other communication, as well as completion of mandatory Trustees training modules annually and triennially. 

We hold Board meetings at least four times a year (plus the Annual General Meeting) to discuss and make decisions concerning the business of the organisation.  The meetings alternate between virtual and in-person meetings in central London, and are usually held between 6-8pm. 

The Finance and General Purposes Committee meets virtually four times a year during office hours.

All Trustees will receive a thorough in-depth induction upon appointment, followed by regular skills audits and appraisals.

About us

Torbay Advice Network is a registered Charity, who supports vulnerable people at a critical moment to rebuild their lives following a welfare crisis, such as with benefit appeals, PIP Tribunals, Specialist Advice, Guidance, and Advocacy.

We also provide specialist tailored training to empower our community, statutory staff and VCSO’s to better understand their entitlements and legal issues.

In 2023-24 we supported 272 clients to obtain new benefit awards including backdated payments of £765,533.61 and trained 57 people in welfare topics, such as PIP, Carers Benefits, Housing Benefit, and Identifying Entitlements.

Our trustees set strategic direction, provide advice, and ensure the charity’s work continues to advance its charitable objectives.

Who we need

Whether you are an experienced trustee or board member or are looking to take your first step into the voluntary sector, we want to hear from you.

We are looking for Trustees to help drive our strategic development, utilising their lived experience and networks in our local communities to help further shape and sustain our specialist services.

Time commitment

Trustee meetings are held remotely three to four times a year, although there may also be occasional requirements to meet in person in Torbay.

Additionally, you will support your fellow trustees and staff members on an ad hoc basis. The total time commitment averages around an hour each month.

Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness (KCAH) has been working tirelessly to help people who are homeless, or are at risk of homelessness since 1983. We believe everyone deserves a safe home, however, with ever rising costs a fresh surge of people are reaching out for our help.

The Role of the Board

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. Specifically, the Board is responsible for:

• Ensuring that the charity and its representatives function within the legal and regulatory framework of charities and in line with the organisation’s governing document, continually striving for best practice in governance.
• Upholding the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity.
• Determining the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning.

Trustee - Role Description

• Ensuring the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements, and acts within the confines of its governing document and in furtherance to organisational activities contained therein.
• Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times.
• Promoting and developing the charity in order for it to grow and maintain its relevance to society.
• Maintaining sound financial management of the charity’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the organisations’ objects, and investment activities meet accepted standards and policies.
• Interviewing, appointing, and monitoring the work and activities of the senior paid staff if necessary.
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, acting as a counter-signatory on charity cheques and any applications for funds if necessary
• Maintaining absolute confidentiality about all sensitive/confidential information received in the course of trustee’s responsibilities to the charity.

Accountable to

• Funders, beneficiaries, the Charity Commission, and Companies House.

Time commitment

• Attendance at quarterly meetings (held in central London on a weekday from 2–5pm)
• Ad hoc advice and support to senior staff and Board members, usually via email.
• Term for all Trustees is 3 years, with the option of re-election by mutual agreement for one further term.

The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) - Trusees

The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) is seeking new Trustees to join its Board who have business development, finance, charity or fundraising expertise or experience, who might be interested in this area, as well as others interested in social care, education or palliative or end of life care

The GSF is a registered charity and has been the UK’s leading training provider for generalist frontline staff in caring for people in the last years of life for over 25 years. GSF is a practical and evidence-based end of life care improvement programme.

Its aim is to enable a ‘gold standard’ of care for everyone, with any condition, in any setting, given by any care provider, at any time in a person’s last years of life.

We are excited to be recruiting a new Chair to build on our impactful work. You’ll be joining right at the start of a new strategic cycle which is laser focussed on impact and youth voice. 

Khulisa has a rich history and a strong track record of delivering high-impact and high quality programmes. We initially worked in prisons and in 2011 we began working with  young people in schools. Now, in 2024, we work exclusively in schools  across London, focusing on supporting young people who’ve experienced multiple traumas and adversities and preventing the pipeline of exclusion to prison.

Our group therapeutic programmes in schools already support young people to surpass the national benchmarks for wellbeing and a recent evaluation schools research shows that we’re delivering statistically significant outcomes across young people’s wellbeing, resilience and self-regulation. 

At the heart of  our new strategy is a focus on extending these outcomes for longer and preventing exclusion while increasing attainment. 

This signifies a defining moment for Khulisa - an explicit step into the education space and is a pivotal time for a Chair to help us amplify the need for Khulisa’s work and the impact it can have.
