The role:
We are looking for people who care about supporting local people in financial hardship and reducing inequality, who are willing to bring energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking and perspective on the board. Board Trustee

About the role:

The role of the trustee board is to receive assets from donors, safeguard them and apply them to the charitable purposes of Salcare. The trustee board must always act in the best interests of Salcare, exercising the same standard of duty of care that a prudent person would apply if looking after the affairs of someone for whom they have responsibility. The trustee board must act as a group not as individuals.

Duties of a trustee:

The duties of a trustee are to:

· Ensure that Salcare complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations

· Ensure that Salcare pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.

· Ensure Salcare applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its charitable objects. The charity cannot spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they may be

· Ensure Salcare develops long-term strategy, defines its goals, and evaluates performance against targets.

· Ensuring the financial stability and sustainability of Salcare

· Safeguard the good name and values of Salcare.

· To ensure the effective and efficient administration of Salcare including having appropriate policies and procedures in place.

· To protect and manage the property of Salcare and to ensure proper investment of the organisation’s funds

· To appoint the most senior staff member and appraise their performance

As well as the statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve leading discussions, identifying key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, and evaluating or offering advice on other areas in which the trustee has particular expertise.

In addition trustees are expected to:

· Be committed to the vision and values of Salcare

· Abide by Salcare’s policies and procedures

· Meet the minimum time commitment including attending the majority of board meetings

· Declare conflicts of interest

· Keep informed of the organisation’s work

· Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees

· Participate in relevant training

· Be willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

· Agree to, and comply with, the Trustee Code of Conduct

Minimum time commitment:

On average the minimum time commitment is between six and ten days per year depending on level of involvement.

Board meetings:

Trustees are required to attend bi-monthly Board meetings for which they are expected to read papers and prepare. Board meetings usually take place at the Salcare main office, Heanor, for up to two hours during working hours: occasionally board meetings may be held remotely using Zoom or Microsoft Office. The timings of Board meetings is regularly reviewed in the light of the practical needs of the trustees.

Planning sessions and team building

Most years trustees will be expected to engage in two half day sessions; these will generally be during the day.

Committees/Working Groups

According to their individual skills and experience, most trustees will be invited to serve on a sub-committee. Some sub-committees are standing committees and meet quarterly, others are fixed term ‘task and finish’ groups.

Other Support

Generally trustees are expected to support in practical ways such as participating in interviewing for senior staff, representing Salcare at events, or engaging in fundraising activity; some of these activities take place during the day.

Term of service

Our practice is for Trustees to serve on the Board for a three-year period at the end of which they may be re-elected for up to two further terms.

Person specification:

Each trustee must have:

· A commitment to the vision, mission and values of Salcare.

· A willingness to meet the minimum time commitment including, on occasions, being available to staff for advice and support.

· Integrity including understanding of, and ability to maintain, confidentiality.

At this time we are specifically looking for up to four individuals with experience of at least one of the following areas:

· Charity Finance including budgeting and year end accounts (Treasurer Role).

· Working with young people and children including experience of Ofsted.

· Corporate Social Responsibility and who have a network with businesses within the region.

· Income generation including the development of Social Enterprise.

· Developing communications strategy including social media.

Applications from those without these specific skills are also welcome and individuals from minority communities will be especially welcome. Survivors of domestic violence and those with lived experience of poverty and associated challenges, who have not been users of Salcare’s own services over the last 12 months, are also particularly welcome.

Trustees - The Royal Society of Asian Affairs (RSSA)

Approaching its 125th anniversary, The RSSA want to strengthen its Board with individuals with strong backgrounds in marketing and communications, ideally in the education sector. Up to two positions are available.

The RSSA was founded in 1901 as the Central Asian Society. Its journal, Asian Affairs has been published continuously since 1914.

The RSAA’s objective is to advance knowledge of Asia through its worldwide networks, its public events, its publications and its support to research. It is an open, active and internatiuonal network for informed debate about Asia, engaging experts, policy makers and the wider public with experience, analysis and scholarship.

We are looking forward to welcoming up to three new trustees to our board. The Trustees are jointly responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals. This is an opportunity to be part of a regenerating charity with a key role in the town focused on alleviating poverty locally.

Chair of Trustees - Eggcup

Chair of trustees wanted to drive transformation from emergency food support to a sustainable model with a wider customer base. We seek someone with creative energy, analytical and communication skills to offer strategic leadership. Online/remote or Lancaster

Eggcup has supported about 1000 households weekly through its outlets and food coop. The charity has worked with the city council to deliver hardship schemes, including the Household Support Fund.  Over the next financial year, it expects to refocus away from low-cost commercial food management and onto acquisition of surplus food throughout the region. Its aim is to continue its food club outlets as it grows the affordable meal-production operation and opens a city centre cafe.

The ideal candidate would have knowledge of commercial food systems, as well as an interest in food sustainability, and would also hold values around fairness in society and the reduction of inequality and poverty.   They must confidently represent Eggcup to external organisations,  can offer light-touch supervision to the charity manager, analyse data effectively, and communicate clearly in meetings and in writing. The role is likely to require 2-4 hours per week as well as monthly meetings which take place via Zoom. It would be helpful to be able to visit the operation but the role can be undertaken remotely. The chair role does require commitment but the organisation has all the pieces in place for an enthusiastic person to come in and help to grow and shape the next stage of its food adventure. Energy and creative problem-solving are at least as important as experience, and Eggcup encourages anyone who is interested to get in touch for an informal chat with thecurrent Chair of Trustees.

TRUSTEE DIRECTOR TREASURER - ANTHONY TOBY HOMES TRUST (ATHT)

The ATHT provides a unique package of care for people with learning disabilities to live together in a group home, enabling them to enjoy normal and fulfilled lives as part of the local community, experiencing the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.  As a member of the Trustee Board the Trustee Director Treasurer has particular responsibility for overseeing the accounting function of  ATHT.

About the Role

The Bridge Project is a well-established Bradford based charity with over 35 years’ experience delivering services and projects addressing a range of issues such as substance misuse, risk taking behaviours, relationships, housing, physical/mental health, and employment. We work with individuals, families, partners, and communities to improve people’s lives in a sustainable way, empowering people experiencing multiple barriers to achieve positive change.

We currently employ over 120 staff, 40% of whom are ‘experts by experience’ and have joined us through our volunteering programme.  We are recognised as being innovative and recovery focused, and our services have been highlighted nationally  as examples of best practice in the sector. Our portfolio of services and projects are constantly evolving in response to the changing needs of our service users and our local communities. Currently this includes recovery focussed drug treatment services, housing and resettlement support, access to education, training, and employment (ETE), volunteering programmes, support for people engaged with criminal justice services and befriending/mentoring services for people with significant barriers to recovery and community reengagement.

Our Trustees play a pivotal role in governing the Bridge Project.  They are responsible for setting our strategic vision and priorities, ensuring our financial sustainability, and providing guidance and oversight to our operations. WTI is in the process of establishment and is actively seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to serve as founding trustees. Trustees play a pivotal role in steering the strategic direction, governance, and oversight of the organisation, particularly in the crucial phase of charity registration.

Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to guide WTI in achieving its mission and objectives.

Governance: Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as governing documents and policies, especially during the charity registration process.

Previous experience in governance, leadership, or management roles, preferably within the charity sector or relevant field.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

Willingness to dedicate time and effort to fulfil trustee responsibilities effectively, especially during the charity registration process.

Knowledge of fundraising, financial management, or legal matters is desirable but not essential.

Mental Health Resource is a well-established, independent charity based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Our aim is to improve mental wellbeing in our community by enabling people to feel supported and valued, providing opportunities for social connections and by raising awareness of mental health. We deliver high quality and effective services across West Kent providing safe spaces and person-centred mental health support.

We provide comprehensive services with both a focus on short term and long-term mental health support, enabling people to access our projects for as longs as they want or need support. Our beneficiaries have complex and enduring mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-harming, psychosis, schizophrenia and bi-polar and, on average, we work with over 900 adults and young people each year.  

About the Trustee roles

You would be working with other trustees who have different skills, knowledge and experience. It's an interesting role in which you can help formulate ideas about how we as an organisation can best address the challenges and opportunities that exist in an increasingly complex and changing environment.

We would love to hear from you if you have a true interest in helping to improve the lives of those with mental health conditions in our community, and especially if you have skills or experience in working in a charity or in finance. No experience of being a trustee is necessary.

We are a local charity with a clear vision of strengthening communities from the bottom up to make Norfolk a vibrant and fairer place to live. Essential qualities and experience

• An experienced professionally trained therapist (such as a Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, Family Therapist, Psychotherapist)
• Ideally have some background and/or training in safeguarding and child protection to provide support to the Children and Young People's Co-ordinator on the unusual times when such concerns are raised.
• Will enjoy innovation, critical thinking and progress.
