The Whiteley Homes Trust is seeking a committed individual to join our Board of Trustees and help shape the future of Whiteley Village. As a Trustee, you’ll play a central role in guiding the charity’s strategy, governance, and community impact.
Whiteley Village in Surrey is a pioneering retirement community, home to over 350 residents. As we look ahead, we’re focused on sustaining our legacy, enhancing services, and providing homes that empower people to live independently and with dignity.
PURPOSE OF ROLE
The Board of Trustees are entrusted to further the work of the Trust in accordance with its charitable objectives and to act as champions for the charity in the public arena.
The Board is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines, and its funding bodies, including lenders and investors’ covenants.
Trustees are Directors of The Whiteley Homes Trust, a Company limited by guarantee and governed by company law. Ultimately the Board is responsible for ensuring that the Trust is an effective business – efficient, making best use of its resources and treating all with whom it engages fairly.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Working with other Trustees, ensure that The Whiteley Homes Trust has a clear strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating outcomes against agreed targets.
- Provide constructive challenge to facilitate the achievement of strategic objectives, holding the Leadership Team to account for the delivery of The Whiteley Homes Trust’s goals and strategy.
- Establish a constructive and working relationship with, and provide support to, the Trust’s Chief Executive and the broader Leadership Team (LT).
- Ensure the sound financial health of the charity, and that systems are in place to ensure financial accountability and control.
- Ensure that The Whiteley Homes Trust’s finances, assets and reputation are maintained and protected and not placed at undue risk.
- Ensure that The Whiteley Homes Trust complies with its Memorandum and Articles of Association, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Ensure that The Whiteley Homes Trust applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives, and for the greatest benefit of the people it serves.
- Support the LT and employees to develop positive and productive relationships with other partners.
TRUSTEE QUALITIES:
In addition to the above statutory duties, Trustees should use the specific skills, knowledge and experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve leading discussions, focussing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, evaluation, taking a close interest in one of the Trust’s activities to which their expertise and/or experience is particularly relevant or other contributions arising from Trustees’ special expertise. Professionals Aid Guild (PAG) is seeking a new Trustee to join a well-established charity based in London to assist with ongoing and future strategic development. A background in Education or Social Welfare would be desirable.
Using your experience, skills and knowledge, as Trustee you will be;
- Contributing actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation,
- Setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.

We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone with a background in IT, Education or Welfare; however a general interest in the relief of poverty is important. Our Trustees play a vital role in the work of the charity and have a high degree of responsibility. The charity processes confidential information about our applicants and so an awareness of data protection regulation would be useful.
As a Trustee for PAG you will make a difference to professionals throughout UK. Examples of our beneficiaries could include a family struggling to afford school uniforms for their children, a cancer sufferer who has had to give up work and is struggling to manage financially, a medical student whose funding has failed, or a single parent who has moved to a new home and needs assistance with the cost of furniture – these are all areas in which PAG has assisted and continues to assist.
Some case studies below demonstrate the real impact that the charity has;
- Mrs B accumulated large debts when she lost her job and was unable to obtain further loan or credit. She was awarded a one-off gift of £500 towards travel for the final year of her MSc/Diploma from PAG’s Education Committee. Mrs B wrote “I am lost for words to express my gratitude for the received cheque. I would like to say thank you for helping me to every person involved. It will truly make a big difference to my life.”
- Ms E left the family home due to domestic violence and subsequently divorced, she has one son, who is in employment and who contributes to the household income, and one daughter, who is at school. Mrs E is not currently employed; she has completed a Diploma and hopes to find paid employment soon. She was awarded a grant by the Case Committee and a further award for her daughter’s education from the Education Committee. Ms E wrote “I just wanted to thank you all for helping my family and I. I truly feel grateful and supported by PAG. I really don’t know how I would have coped over the years with so many different events that have happened to in my life. Thank you once again.”

This is an exciting opportunity to become involved in a prestigious charity at the forefront of key issues on child protection. Founded in 1955, Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB) helps vulnerable children who are separated from their family overseas.
We are looking for a new trustee, preferably with public affairs and stakeholder management expertise, to help us deliver on our ambitious new strategy.

CFAB is a unique charity that has the capacity to change the lives of vulnerable children at a time when demand for its services is growing year on year. We are led by a dedicated and committed staff and a Board of Trustees who have built on the organisation’s longstanding record of achievement to position us firmly for the future. With a balanced budget and strong reserves, CFAB can now achieve more by increasing its earned income to deliver direct services, by growing its philanthropic funds to reach more children who find themselves outside the system, and by expanding its training offer to strengthen our role as a sector leader in this specialist field.

CFAB is the only charity in the UK with a specially qualified children’s international social work team. We use expertise gathered over 70 years to ensure that vulnerable children are cared for and protected, no matter where they come from. CFAB runs the UK’s only professional, free Advice Line dedicated to international child protection, and provides specialist consultancy to help resolve complex international cases. CFAB also provides training to disseminate learning on how best to manage inter-country social work cases involving children and families. We also advocate for legislation and best practice to meet children’s needs and to ensure families separated by international borders are supported to reunite when this is in the child’s best interests.

Role description
The Trustee should:

- ensuring CFAB complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations

C. Commitment
CFAB has four regular Board meetings per year of which one is held concurrent with the AGM. There is also a Marketing committee which meets four times per year, which the Trustee should attend wherever possible. Additional Extraordinary Board meetings may be called as necessary. Other trustees will participate in committees including: Finance & HR, Fundraising and Policy & Practice. Overall time commitment is approximately 2 – 3 hours a month.

All trustees are expected to attend quarterly Board meetings and a trustee away day once a year. These are held during the working day, online or in person and involve approximately 2 hours in the meeting as well as preparation time.

Appointments are for an initial 3-year term, and trustees can serve for a maximum of 2 terms.
This is a voluntary role, but reasonable expenses can be claimed.

The Bromley Experts by Experience Treasurer will help the board of trustees carry out their financial responsibilities, working closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chair of Trustees and staff team in establishing strong foundations for this Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation with a view to a financially sustainable future. You will also be supporting us in developing our future approach to financial management, making the most of financial modelling, and supporting clear reporting to funders, partners and stakeholders.
The Treasurer will play a vital role, working with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chair of Trustees and staff team to help the organisation ensure sound financial records, develop income streams, and build impact reports. As part of a new, expanded board of trustees at Bromley Experts by Experience, you will provide effective financial oversight, supporting the CEO and senior staff members in developing our vision and strategy to ensure a financially sustainable future.
IMPORTANT: As a Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation, our governing articles require that our staff, trustees and volunteers bring with them lived experience of disability (self-identified or otherwise). See how we define this below.
Responsibilities of the Treasurer:
- Present financial reports to the board in a format that helps fellow trustees understand X by X Bromley’s financial position.
- Advise the board on how to carry out its financial responsibilities.
- Work with professional advisors and staff, as needed to oversee the preparation and scrutiny of annual accounts.
- Ensure X by X Bromley activities benefit its members and beneficiaries.
- Ensure the board fulfils their duties and responsibilities for effective charity governance in line with Bromley Experts by Experience’s policies and the requirements of the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
- Support and advocate for X by X Bromley’s mission, vision and values.
What we ask of you:
- The Treasurer should expect to serve for a minimum of 12 months.
- The Treasurer is required to attend scheduled meetings with some ad hoc meetings where necessary.
- It is anticipated that the time commitment will be an approximate average of 2.5 hours per week. This will mainly comprise of:
- Board meeting attendance (plus preparation thereof) every 8 weeks,
- AGM attendance (plus preparation of papers and accounts),
- Supporting our annual Disability Pride event.
- Regular scheduled meetings with senior staff.
- As we are a very small charity, there could be occasions when extra time will be required (e.g. during the planning of new projects or dealing with any particular difficulties that arise), or where additional support would be appreciated (e.g. attending events, meeting members at project days).
Key Skills and Qualities:
- Lived Experience of disability (can be self-identified)
- A belief that Disabled People can and should be actively welcomed and included in our communities. An understanding that it is barriers in society that make that harder. This is called the Social Model of Disability.
- A qualified accountant with not-for-profit awareness and knowledge. An understanding of very small charities and/or DDPOs would be advantageous.
- Competent IT skills, including working knowledge of QuickBooks and Excel.
- Ability to communicate and explain financial information accessibly.
- Strong analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating professional and independent judgement.

The Treasurer must be legally eligible to stand as a registered Company Director and Charity Trustee. Having had previous experience as a trustee of a voluntary organisation is an advantage.

The person who is starting the charity up is autistic, has ADHD, CPTSD and also multiple physical conditions that effect daily life and is part of the LGBTQ+ community and has faced a lot of issues in life because of these things.
Living Reasons is being created to fix what we think is a challenging situation that is getting harder to achieve every week, month and year in the current economic, political, environmental and societal landscape. It is not easily defined but we hope the charity objects below will help put context to what we want to achieve, what we can say is that below are the issues we are trying to address, how we do this will change as quickly as society does, but the issues we want to tackle are these:
1) Outdated and damaging employment practices
2) Accessibility to services
3) Limited employment, training and education opportunities
4) Lack of support during times of crisis or need
5) Lack of equity and agency for many people in society
6) Institutional discrimination that is not challenged
7) Abuse of the legal system at all levels
8) Abuse of power in government bodies
9) Poor access to healthcare
10) Unequal treatment of many people in society by large corporations
11) Assumptions made by wider society based on incorrect, outdated or discriminatory rhetoric that is used in daily life
12) Outdated company engagement with the public
13) Lack of support that is not talked about and not being addressed
Who are we?
Well, it is a small operation at this point, there are three people that are working to set up the charity, but we are all neurodivergent and have disabling aspects to our lives and experienced lack of opportunity or presumed ideas based on others perception of us. We are just people who care in reality and want to make a true change in society for everyone we work with.
Where are we now?
We are ready to become a CIO; we want to go straight to a fully incorporated charity so that we are able gain the most support as possible and open up opportunities for growth from day one as well as ensure people know they can trust us.
We need 3 trustees to start and understandably, two of us don’t want to be trustees due to personal reasons, so we need at least another two, maybe more, trustees to start up. That is hopefully where you come in!
We have our governing document, and we are still completing the further documents we want to launch with. We hope that new trustees will add to the plan and bring fresh ways of us working and how communicate the message of the charity.
The charity objects
· To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society.
For the purpose of this clause ‘socially excluded’ means being excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of one or more of the following factors: unemployment; financial hardship; youth or old age; ill health (physical or mental); substance abuse or dependency including alcohol and drugs; discrimination on the grounds of sex, race, disability, ethnic origin, religion, belief, creed, sexual orientation or gender re-assignment; poor educational or skills attainment; relationship and family breakdown; poor housing (that is housing that does not meet basic habitable standards; crime (either as a victim of crime or as an offender rehabilitating into society).

So, who are we looking for?
The answer to this is complex. What we are looking for in a trustee is someone who is passionate about creating equity for everyone while sustaining equality, someone that has lived experiences that would mean they can relate to the objects of the charity, whether that be personally, as a support for someone that does or has struggled to be given equity in society or someone that works or has worked in an industry that has played a part in restricting others in society and want that to make real change.
We think this covers a large number of people.
The role of trustee in Living Reasons will always be a remote role, meetings will be held online as standard as we would like to have trustees that are from all areas of the UK and that anyone can be a trustee, regardless of any accessibility requirements.
Additionally, to the personal experiences, the below are also necessary for all trustees of all charities:
1) Must not have an unspent conviction
2) Must not be barred from working with children or vulnerable adults
3) Must not be in undischarged bankruptcy, or other debt management programme
4) Must not be barred from being a trustee or company director
The requirements of skills and understanding of the undertaking of trusteeship with Living Reasons:
1) Being a trustee comes with requirements and responsibilities in terms of acting in the best interest of the charity at all times in line with the law and the charity’s governing document, which will be supplied to all trustees before agreeing to be a trustee and will be discussed with any person selected to be a trustee before they agree to be a trustee.
2) An understanding of financial information is required, this is to ensure that financial reports are assessed correctly and that any anomalies are highlighted, this does not mean you need to have in depth accounting or finance experience by any means, but it is important that you are able to analyse financial reports and risk as they arise.
3) Specific to Living Reasons, you will need to be someone that thinks creatively and is not scared of challenging traditions and pre-existing ideas and open to hear from a wide audience to make informed but innovative changes that are sustainable, realistic but also dynamic and challenging the current societal norms.

Overview of the Branch Trustee - Health and Safety opportunity
We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person, with a background in health and safety, who could devote their time to volunteer with us as one of our trustees at the London South East Branch. Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee - Health and Safety

To act as the branch committee member with specific responsibility for informing co-trustees, branch volunteers, and staff on health and safety matters relating to branch activities, and to assist with the implementation of good health and safety practices.

Liaise with the branch manager regarding the implementation of any new health and safety guidelines from the Society, or the branch’s health and safety provider.

Military Wives Choirs connect over 1700 women in the military community and create a support network through the power of singing. Our Data and Technology Trustee will contribute strategic advice on how MWC manage their technology and data to be compliant, minimise risks to the organisation and to keep up to date with, and take advantage of, developments in a way that recognises the budget and the scale of the organisation. Working closely with the Choir Support Team, they will support the long-term sustainability of the charity by providing strategic direction for their data and technology assets and initiatives. The Trustee will have experience in a broad range of technology leadership roles, understanding of IT procurement, an ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels and able to advise the Board on how it could make ethical use of AI with appropriate safeguards. The Trustee will attend four Board meetings a year - three are virtual and one, usually in the autumn, is in person. They will also be required to attend a Board Awayday in January each year, usually in London and attend a Governance Committee meeting, virtually, each quarter. Balance Support CIO is a specialist provider of learning disabilities services across SW London. We are seeking new trustees to support the charity's widening strategic partnerships and business growth.
What will you be doing?
Reshaping our Board
Balance has trustees with substantial experience across a range of disciplines from housing law to management consultancy and information technology. This experience and knowledge have been critical in supporting the charity's executive leadership restructure operations and qaulity assurance standandards.
As a result they have steered the charitys growth and development increasing turnover from £2.3 Million in 2022 to £4.2 Million in 2024. With additional new work likely in 2025, the board see's strengthening it's knowledge and specialisms as critical in leading this new phase of our development.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for new trustees who have a commitment to driving high quality and empowering social care services. You will recognise the importance of your role in being both a critical friend to the executive leadership as well as an expert in your given field.
Following some recent resignations the board is looking for trustees who can bring backgrounds:
- finance - insight, support and guidance to help develop a sustainable and financially resilient charity
- marketing - knowledge of and ability to support the charity's approach to marketing its services to new customers, commissioners and other business partners
- human resources - a background in HR that provides guidance and support to board in ensuring our personnel governance aligns with our legal obligations
Previous experience as a trustee is not necessary as we will offer training and support where there may be gaps in knowledge. However we are particularly keen to hear from candidates who may be from a black and minority ethnic background, women and people living with a disability.
Where you live
We are a charity based in Kingston with operations across a number of boroughs in SW and Central London. Whilst insight and knowledge of SW london may be an advantage, our flexible approach to attending board meetings in person or online offers wider opportunities for participation from beyond the charity's base.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for trustees with the following experience and skills:
Financial
- Strong commercial background in a senior finance role.
- Knowledge of (or willingness to get to grips with) charity SORP and any impending changes.
- Strong ability to communicate financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
- Knowledge and experience of fundraising governance and good finance practice.
Marketing and Communications
- Knowledge and experience in a marketing and/or communications role
- Can provide industry knowledge and adivce on marketing and communications to grow brand and public awareness.
- Understand the role of strategic planning in relation commuications and market development.
Human Resources
- Experience and knowledge of HR management at a senior level
- Able to provide insight and strategic direction on our governance obligations in relation managing our workforce and supporting their development.
General
- Skilled in analysis, evaluation, and sound judgement
- Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of being a trustee, or a willingness to undertake training at their appointment.
- A collaborative and team-oriented approach to problem solving and to management.
- The Board meets at least 6 times a year and each trustee is expected to attend all board meetings (even if remotely) to contribute to discussions and decisions and occasional attendance at other community events, service visits and away days.

Purpose of the Role
To bring senior-level fundraising expertise to the Board of Trustees, advising and supporting Momentum’s income generation strategies and providing constructive challenge and oversight of the charity’s fundraising activities.
Key Responsibilities
§ Provide expert advice, guidance and strategic input to the Board and senior leadership on all aspects of fundraising.
§ Support the ongoing development of Momentum’s multi-stream fundraising strategy (including major donors, corporate partnerships, trusts & foundations, events, community fundraising, legacies, and digital fundraising).
§ Monitor fundraising performance against targets and ensure fundraising activities remain compliant with relevant regulations (Fundraising Regulator, Charity Commission, GDPR, etc).
§ Act as a mentor and sounding board to the Director of Fundraising & Engagement and CEO.
§ Contribute ideas and insights to help the charity identify new opportunities for sustainable income growth.
§ Where appropriate, assist with the stewardship of key supporters or donors.
§ Fulfil all general trustee duties, including attending Board meetings, contributing to governance and strategic decision-making, and upholding the charity’s values and safeguarding responsibilities.
