We’re a Christian charity with deep roots in financial inclusion, equipping people across Africa with the means to lift themselves out of poverty with dignity. Our Microfinance Plus model brings together access to finance, digital innovation, agricultural support and hands-on training. And we’ve seen how these tools transform families, futures and whole communities.

As Chair, you won’t just lead our Board. You’ll shape strategy, strengthen culture, and support our senior leadership across both Opportunity International UK and our investment subsidiary, OMIL. You’ll champion governance, nurture donor relationships, and bring wisdom and encouragement to our partnerships, from HRH The Princess Royal to cocoa farmers in Ghana.

This is more than a governance role. It’s an invitation to be part of something bold, hopeful and deeply impactful.

We’re looking for someone with strategic leadership experience, a strong Christian faith, and a deep commitment to inclusion and impact. About ShowerBox

ShowerBox is a registered charity dedicated to providing free, safe showers and essential supplies to people experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to create a welcoming environment that restores dignity, improves wellbeing, and helps to reduce isolation. We also connect our guests with health clinics and other vital services, supporting them to make long-term, positive changes in their lives.

Founded by our CEO, Sarah Lamptey, in response to the urgent need for accessible hygiene facilities, ShowerBox began in 2018 as a grassroots initiative and became a registered charity in 2021. Since then, it has grown into a multi-site service, operating both independently and in partnership with other organisations.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a dynamic and committed Chair to lead ShowerBox into its next phase of growth. Building on the success achieved since becoming a CIO and expanding to three locations, the Chair will work closely with the CEO to shape the organisation’s future and strengthen its impact.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing effective strategic leadership to the Board, ensuring sound governance and clear direction.
• Supporting and constructively challenging the CEO, while holding them accountable for delivering agreed objectives.
• Ensuring the Board remains effective and diverse, with the right balance of skills, knowledge, and experience.
• Acting as an ambassador for ShowerBox, representing the charity externally and serving as a spokesperson when appropriate.
• Safeguarding the charity’s values, reputation, and financial sustainability.

We are looking for someone who can bring:

• A strong commitment to supporting people experiencing homelessness and hygiene poverty.
• Previous experience as a Trustee or Board member (experience as a Chair of a voluntary organisation is highly desirable).
• A solid understanding of the legal, financial, and governance responsibilities of trusteeship.
• Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to chair meetings effectively.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with a collaborative approach.
• The time, energy, and commitment to support a small but growing charity.

Time commitment and terms:

• The Chair of Trustees is appointed for a renewable term of two years.
• Expected time commitment: up to two days per month, with flexibility for additional time during new projects or unexpected challenges.
• Board meetings are held four times a year (mostly online), with occasional subcommittees and events depending on interest and expertise.
• This is an unpaid voluntary role; reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) is looking to appoint up to two new Trustees and if you answered a resounding ‘yes’ to the questions above then these could be the roles for you!

The built and natural environment have profound impacts on people’s health, wellbeing and life chances and we also face climate, nature, housing and health crises. The work of the TCPA is, therefore, more important than ever.

MhIST is an innovative, user-led mental health charity in Bolton. We're looking for some new Trustees due to a couple of long-serving Trustees recently stepping down due to personal and work commitments

Our trustees play an important role in ensuring that MhIST achieves its core purpose. Trustees oversee the overall management and administration of the charity to ensure that our work, goals and actions are in line with our vision. Trustees act as a critical friend to the business, supporting and often challenging, where necessary, to make sure that all decisions put the needs of MhIST’s members (service users).

We are looking for an individual who shares our commitment to supporting adopters and prospective adopters throughout their adoption journey. Ideal candidates will have strong governance knowledge, the capacity to think strategically, work collaboratively and lead the Trustees in making significant contributions to our future.

You will join the Board as the organisation heads into its second decade, with established services, partnerships and a growing membership base. Our quality and consistency of service provision is leading to exciting conversations nationally, and we are looking for our new Chair to help steer us through this next stage of growth.

ROLE DESCRIPTION AND HOW TO APPLY

Key Responsibilities

To advise, govern, oversee policy and direction and assist with the leadership and general promotion of We Are Family to support the organisation’s vision, mission, values and needs.

• Contract: two years unless agreed otherwise on appointment. The Chair is eligible for re-election within their overall period of appointment as a Trustee.
• Hours: circa 8-10 hours per month (including evening meetings)
• Salary: n/a this is a voluntary role, with associated expenses covered
• Location: Remote (UK-based), twice yearly in-person meetings in London

Commitment

• Chair 4 Board meetings per year
• Attend 4 Sub-Committee meetings per year
• Help plan and chair 2 Board away days per year (on a Saturday)
• Regular check-ins with the Director
• Induction meetings with new Trustees as required

Board and committee meetings are held in the evening via Zoom and dates of meetings are distributed a year in advance. The away days are held in person in central London.

Skills and knowledge

All applicants should be able to demonstrate the following:

• Extensive charity governance knowledge;
• Skills or experience in strategic planning, setting targets and monitoring and evaluating performance;
• Good organisational and communication (written and oral) skills;
• Proven track record in senior governance roles;
• Previous Chair or Deputy Chair of a Board of Trustees Experience (desirable); and
• An interest in and understanding of the challenges faced by adoptive parents

Arthritis Action is a registered charity, and company limited by guarantee, whose directors are the members of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is the ultimate decision-making body of Arthritis Action, and most of the Board also serve as members of committees or working groups which report to the Board.  The role of the Trustee is to:

• Ensure that:
  • you understand Arthritis Action’s purpose and that you are able to explain how all of its activities are intended to further or support its purpose;
  • the Charity pursues its purposes and objectives, as defined in its Articles of Association, and does not apply its resources on activities which are beyond the scope of its purposes and objectives;
  • the Charity complies with charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations;
  • a high standard of governance is maintained at all times;
  • the Charity complies with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and is appropriately accountable to members, the Charity Commission and other stakeholders;
  • the Charity’s values, principles and good name are upheld in the delivery of its purposes and objectives.
• Act in the best interests of the Charity, its members and its stakeholders at all times, and either avoid or declare potential conflicts of interest.
• Work with fellow Trustees to:
  • set the Charity’s overarching vision;
  • shape and drive the Charity’s strategy; and o ensure that the Charity remains focussed on achieving its strategy by setting targets and evaluating performance against these targets.
• Devote sufficient time to prepare for and participate fully in board meetings, committees or ad hoc working groups.
• Contribute actively in leadership and decision making of the Charity, by making balanced and adequately informed decisions with due regard to the long term as well as the short term.
• Ensure efficient and effective management and administration of the Charity, including establishing internal accountability and making sure that appropriate policies and procedures are in place.
• Safeguard the Charity’s assets and resources and ensure the financial stability of the Charity.
• Use any specific skills, knowledge or experience you have to help the Board of Trustees reach quick and sound decisions by leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, or other issues in which you have expertise.
• Maintain confidentiality in respect of all sensitive information.
• Identify and manage risks with a considered, proportionate and balanced approach.
• Appoint and support Arthritis Action’s Chief Executive and monitor their performance.
• Promote the work of Arthritis Action externally.

Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees (SWR) is a local community based charity fully managed and staffed by volunteers. We started welcoming and supporting refugees arriving in Sevenoaks district from 2017 onwards. Across the district we provide varying levels of support to a little over 50 refugee families, made up of just over 80 adults and 70 children.

Our mission is to ensure that refugees are truly welcomed into Sevenoaks District. We support their journey to social integration and economic independence by working directly with them and others in providing language training, household goods, social activities and supporting access to public services, employment, education and housing.

We are looking for 2 new Trustees to join SWR's warm and welcoming experienced Board of Trustees. Specifically, we are looking for individuals with experience in the following: the Not for Profit sector, Education, Public sector, Strategy & Management, Diplomacy & International Aid.

SWR Trustees are responsible for the full range of Trustee duties including strategic oversight of SWR, financial accountability (we have a dedicated treasurer), planning and monitoring, transparency and accountability, safeguarding and wellbeing of refugees and volunteers, along with oversight of the Volunteer Leadership Team, the operational committee that is responsible for the day-to-day provision of services for refugees and volunteer tasking, training and wellbeing.

In addition to the formal Trustee role, most of our Trustees also undertake management roles to ensure the effective functioning of the charity. Trustees most usually work with, and manage teams of volunteers, on specific functions that include: public outreach; recruitment; safeguarding; fundraising; communications and planning.

Pets As Therapy is a national charity with a simple but powerful mission: to share the joy of pets with people who need it most. We support more than 4,500 volunteer teams across the UK. Together, they bring comfort, connection and companionship to tens of thousands of people every year.

We are looking for three new trustees to help guide our strategy, strengthen our governance and ensure that we remain true to our purpose of spreading joy, comfort and companionship through the magic of pets.

What will you be doing?

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that PAT achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that PAT has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable the charity to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.

Time commitment

• Attend all full Board meetings. The Board meets formally at least four times a year for between a half day and a day, depending on business. Two meetings are in-person and are held in central London. Two are virtual.
• Preparation for meetings – read papers, understand numbers, assimilate arguments.
• All trustees are asked to serve on one or more Board sub committees and working groups. This adds 3-4 shorter meetings a year.
• Trustees may be asked to chair sub committees on a rotating basis.
• At least two visits per year accompanying a PAT volunteer in a different sector and or attending/supporting an event with PAT volunteers.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our Board. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with the following skills and experience: 

Animal Care and Behaviour - The wellbeing of the companion animals is of upmost importance to us. Someone with experience in veterinary care will help us develop best practice in our own operation and set an example to the sector. 

Education - Our volunteers visit over 1,600 schools. Someone with education experience will help us to ensure we deliver the best possible service to children and young people. 

Volunteer Management - A key part of our current strategy is improving our volunteer engagement and our volunteer experience. Therefore we’d welcome applications from people with a background in volunteer management and volunteer led organisations.

We are seeking two passionate and affective advocates for the arts to join Nottingham Playhouse’s Board of Trustees.

Awarded Theatre of the Year 2025 in The Stage awards, Nottingham Playhouse is one of the country’s leading producing theatres, creating work that’s bold, thrilling and proudly made in Nottingham. Our wide-reaching participation programmes create life-changing experiences for our community and we also support the next generation of theatre-makers in the East Midlands through our extensive artist development programme.

As a registered charity, all of the funds we raise help to ensure we’re reaching as many people as possible to give them new opportunities and create lasting memories.

We are now seeking two new Trustees to join our Board. To complement the specialisms of our current governance, we are particularly seeking applicants with specialisms in the following areas:

• Legal
• HR

• Theatre producing

• Business experience

The Board meets six times a year in Nottingham, and each Trustee also attends at least one subgroup, which meet bimonthly or quarterly. Trustees are also expected to attend press nights for each in-house production and support other Nottingham Playhouse activities and Participation programmes whenever possible.

The Ark Gedling is a Christian charity that exists for the prevention and relief of poverty and hardship; it is a UK registered charity and a member of Advice UK. It provides a community café, with a range of activities to support community development and mutual support, which operate in conjunction with advice sessions, so that local people receive expert advice alongside compassionate community support and empowerment. It works in close partnership with other charities and with local churches. At Storyhouse, this means making sure we stay creative, inclusive and sustainable, so we can keep inspiring people, connecting communities, and opening our doors to everyone.

As a registered charity and company limited by guarantee, our Trustees are also directors of the company, with legal responsibilities for our governance and finances. The role is voluntary, but the difference you make will be lasting – for Storyhouse and for the communities we serve.

What’s involved:

- Board meetings – four per year

- Committees – the option to join at least one, to focus on specific areas

- Working groups - sometimes short-term ‘task and finish’ or working groups for particular projects

- Preparation - reading papers in advance and contributing actively to discussions

- Ambassadorship - staying connected with our work between meetings, championing Storyhouse in your own networks. Most of the year the rhythm of meetings is regular, but during extraordinary moments — like a leadership change or major challenge — Trustees may be asked to give a little more time and support.
