As the Head of Finance, you will play a pivotal role in providing financial insights and guidance as part of our Senior Leadership Team, helping drive informed decisions and contributing to the overall financial success of the organisation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Charity Support:
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand their operational needs, challenges, and objectives.
- Act as a trusted advisor, translating financial data into actionable insights that drive improvements in efficiency, cost control, and overall performance.
Joy Project Support:
- Work closely with the Project Director to give full finance support to the Joy project.
- Provide support managing the costs, budgeting and billing surrounding Joy.
- Identify operational and financial risks and opportunities.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Work closely with department heads to develop, monitor and update the annual budget.
- Provide regular forecasts, track performance against budget, and recommend adjustments as necessary.
Cost Analysis and Control:
- Analyse costs, including spend against restricted and unrestricted grant income. Identify cost reduction opportunities.
- Implement cost control measures and continuous improvement initiatives.
Performance Metrics:
- Develop and maintain KPIs and financial performance metrics.
- Regularly report on performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
Financial Reporting:
- Manage relationship with third party audit partners.
- Analyse financial statements and performance reports, and report as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Communicate financial results to the Board of Trustees at regular charity board meetings.
Decision Support:
- Participate in decision-making processes by providing financial insights and risk assessment for new projects, capital investments, and operational changes.
Variance Analysis:
- Investigate and explain variances from budget and forecast. Collaborate with project/grant owners to address performance gaps.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance efficiency and financial performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices.
Management
- Oversee the recruitment of additional members of the Finance Team.
- Full line management of the Finance Team, including regular 1-1 meeting and supporting their professional development.

The Role
Fundraising and Impact Coordinator
o Assist in the planning and execution of a diverse range of fundraising applications, events and community initiatives
o Support the management of event logistics, including participant communication, volunteer coordination, and on-the-day activities
o Collaborate with external partners and suppliers to ensure smooth event operations and build strong relationships for future collaboration
o Lead outreach efforts to engage new community partners, such as businesses, promoting fundraising opportunities and supporting their initiatives.

Sense International are currently recruiting for a Fundraising Officer to join their Fundraising team. This permanent opportunity will work on hybrid basis from our office in King's Cross, London, working 37.5 hours per week.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering and growing income to support the charity’s mission. Working closely with the Senior Trusts Funding Manager, you will help implement fundraising plans across multiple income streams, including trusts and corporate foundations, events and individual giving.

· Be present in Hospital/ Custody/ Community locations to support young people that are impacted by violence.

· Deliver group work sessions to get young people talking about the issue of violence providing a safe space for them to talk about their concerns and what they want to change.

Amongst other requirements, the successful post holder must have:
· Relevant experience OR qualification in Youth & Community (JNC), Social Work (QSW) or SEND.
· Proven experience working with young people ‘at risk’.
· Reliability, with a flexible approach to changes and able to work unsociable hours.

The special events coordinator will report to the special events manager.

Principal responsibilities
Event planning and coordination

Stewardship events

Supporting the new cancer campaign
· Prepare for campaign events in support of a £50m campaign for a ground-breaking cancer centre on the Royal Free Hospital site.
Vendor management
· Whether on-site at one of our hospitals or at an external venue, take responsibility for sourcing, negotiating and managing relationships with vendors, including caterers, suppliers and on-site partners.
Budget management
· Create and manage event budgets, ensuring cost-effective solutions while maintaining high-quality standards.
Communications and promotion
· Collaborate with the communications team to develop promotional materials and strategies to maximise event attendance and engagement.
RSVP management
· Managing the RSVP mailbox, ensuring timely and accurate responses to event invitations and queries.
Database management
· Maintain and update event-related databases, ensuring accurate records of participants, donors and sponsors.
Relationship management
· Act as the main point of contact for colleagues, donors and contractors, ensuring their needs and expectations are met throughout the event planning and delivery process.
Portfolio manager support
· Assist portfolio managers in engaging with prospects and donors effectively, providing event-related insights and facilitating meaningful connections.
On-site coordination
· Oversee event setup, execution, and breakdown, ensuring all elements are in place and events run smoothly.
Post-event evaluation
· Conduct post-event evaluations to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.
Oversight and responsibility
· Manage risk assessment, risk management and first aid training to ensure the safety and well-being of all event participants.

The team
Our dynamic fundraising department generated £4.5m through donations in 2023/24, and we are now preparing for an ambitious multi-million-pound campaign in support of a ground-breaking cancer centre on the site of the Royal Free Hospital.

Job Purpose:

Established in 2014, Beating Time is an award-winning charity operating across the UK, from two offices in London and Birmingham. We help people survive a prison sentence and thrive after release, ultimately to reduce their chances of reoffending. We run two continuous programmes: Choirs Beating Time, running weekly prison choirs and songwriting groups, and Inside Job, which uses a peer-led employment model to help people through release and into paid work. The role
We’re hiring for an enthusiastic, organised and self-motivated Fundraising and Communications Officer to join us in London (Woolwich) or Bimingham (Digbeth). You will need to be based near to one of those offices, we do a mixture of WHF and in office working.
Idealy, we’re looking for someone with an interest in the criminal justice system, strong knowledge of fundraising (particularly for small charities) and communications expertise.
This role is an opportunity to shape how we present ourselves to funders and supporters and maintain long-term partnerships with them. You will play an active role in determining our future fundraising strategy while meeting the day-to-day demands of keeping a small charity afloat. You’ll contribute to our efforts to diversify income streams by securing support from corporates and other partners – this requires an ability to think creatively and strategically.
An advantage of doing this work in a small team is you’ll be able to see the direct effect of your work on how we deliver Choirs Beating Time and Inside Job, often in practice during prison visits. You’ll work closely with senior management to stay on top of budgets and cashflow to inform your fundraising decisions and grow a culture of income awareness across the charity.
Communications play an important role in maintaining relationships with funders and stakeholders. We want to keep up a strong, involved presence on LinkedIn, while contributing to sector-wide advocacy, and boosting visibility through online and in-person events. An important part of our comms strategy is conveying our impact; you will also prepare regular impact reports for internal and external use.
What we’re looking for
- Excellent writing and editing skills – your day-to-day tasks will involve writing grant applications and reports to new and existing funders (majority trusts and foundations). You will collate and write quarterly newsletters, circulated to funders, partner organisations, supporters and our employer network.
- Fundraising expertise – you will research and identify potential funders/corporate sponsorship to feed into the prospect pipeline. You will also develop and maintain a database to keep track of new/existing/past funders and monitor fundraising impact.
- Strong organisational skills – previous experience working or volunteering with a small charity is a plus. You will often be working to deadlines and need to be able to plan ahead and organise your schedule accordingly. Your role as part of the central team will include taking minutes at weekly meetings, liaising with prisons and freelance musical directors, and actively reaching out to government and sector bodies where necessary.
