About the Role

As Fundraising and Development Manager you’ll take the lead on building meaningful relationships with funders and corporate partners, managing grant applications from research to reporting, and developing the fundraising strategy in alignment with organisational goals.

As the sole fundraiser in a small, passionate team, this is a unique opportunity to shape a growing charity’s income generation strategy while championing access to the UK’s finest outdoor spaces.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Manage and grow relationships with trusts, grant-makers and corporate sponsors.

Main Duties

• Contributing to the delivery of the global Fundraising Strategy through driving improvements of relevant policies, processes and tools along the entire funding management cycle ensuring effective and efficient internal operations
• Effectively plan and deliver priority initiatives (including policy revision, risk matrix tool development, streamlining corporate income processes) collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation to ensure that relevant perspectives are incorporated and work with their line manager on effective prioritisation

We are seeking an experienced fundraiser with proven success to lead our fundraising work in the Africa region. The role will work closely with Africa team colleagues, central fundraising teams (Institutional Funding, Individuals, and Trusts and Foundations) and with our cross-cutting teams based both in the UK and in region. With fluency in English, you will have excellent communication and presentation skills to both technical and non-technical audiences and a proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of individuals and organisations.

A good technical background and understanding of a range of conservation issues is essential as is proven experience of influencing donor priorities, negotiating and approving statutory donor grant agreements.

Senior Philanthropy Manager

The Role
The Head of Fundraising is a pivotal leadership role, reporting to the CEO and joining the SMT.

You would be responsible for developing, implementing and delivering income generation strategy.

As the sole dedicated income generation specialist, you will take a hands-on approach to all aspects of fundraising and business development, identifying opportunities, building partnerships, securing funding, and maximising income from a diverse range of sources.

The fundraising income is currently c£300,000 per year and they have ambition to grow this to £500,000 over the next three years to ensure that they can continue to be there for older people when they are in need.

You would lead and manage the acquisition of potential donors, cultivate relationships, solicit donations, and engage in ongoing stewardship activities to retain and grow support.

The Candidate
We are looking for a proactive and hands on fundraiser, happy to be a sole fundraiser within a wider supportive team.

Someone with a proven track record of securing significant income from at least three of the following individual giving (including High Net Worth and regular giving), trusts/foundations, corporates, community, and/or legacy support.

About the Role

As Major Gifts Manager, you will provide expertise in Major Gifts, successfully developing the programme in line with agreed annual targets and our Fundraising Strategy. You will work closely with the Head of Major Gifts to evolve and continuously improve the major gift activity, bringing an integrated approach across the charity to deliver the most donor-centric activity, whilst continuously evaluating performance.

Your principal duties and responsibilities will include:

• Inputting into and delivering the Major Gifts Strategy and improving the Major Gift portfolio and performance.

• Delivering and reporting on agreed projects, fundraising targets and KPIs.

• Proactively identifying and delivering new fundraising donors and income growth opportunities within Major Gifts.

• Leading on selected donor cultivation and stewardship projects to support sustainable income growth in Major Gifts, including events and other opportunities;

• Personally securing, managing and stewarding a portfolio of active Mid-Value, Major Donors and Charitable Trusts, forging and maintaining strong and enduring relationships.

About You

With experience of managing, cultivating, and delivering major gifts, and of planning future major gifts pipeline, you will have a proven track record of meeting and exceeding personal fundraising targets.

You will also have:

• A demonstrable record of building excellent stewardship and successful relationships with supporters at all levels including high net worth supporters, charitable trusts and other major donors.

• Well-developed knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, and interpretation of programme performance.

• Demonstrable experience of project budget management/reporting.

• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

• The ability to multi-task and work with several conflicting demands and timescales.

• Managing, supporting and attending Major Gifts stewardship and cultivation meetings and events, including supplier liaison, supporter invite lists, follow ups and budgets.

• Securing, managing and stewarding a portfolio of active mid-value donors and charitable trusts, delivering compelling bids and donor reports, forging and maintaining strong and enduring relationships.

• Researching current and potential major and mid-value donors to enable a donor-centric approach.

• Delivering and reporting on agreed development and stewardship projects, fundraising targets and KPIs. 

About You

As Major Gifts Officer, you will have experience of supporting or managing mid value or major donors, high value or sensitive customers.

You will have:

• A proven track record of meeting and exceeding fundraising/sales targets.

• Experience of working within a team environment with complex internal stakeholders.

• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport and trust with donors. 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of writing successful bids (fundraising or sales) and summary reports. 

• Strong research and prospecting skills.

We are Zarach, the children’s bed charity, and we’re on a mission to end child bed poverty, giving children the opportunity to engage at school and break the cycle of poverty. 

In our nearly seven years as a registered charity, we’ve captured the hearts and attention of many individuals, community groups, businesses and funders who want to support us on our mission. We’ve also been given an incredible media platform from which we have raised awareness of child bed poverty at local, regional and national levels. This support and awareness has seen us deliver over 12,000 bed bundles to children to date.

Our cause and story have captured the nation’s attention, and we have been provided with an incredible national platform that has seen us appear on local and national TV, on the radio, and in the national press. This has included appearances on BBC Breakfast, ITV News, Channel 4 News, Radio 5 Live, BBC Look North, and The Independent newspaper supported our Christmas 2023 appeal, culminating in Zarach being the front-page story on Christmas Day. 

In our short history, we have received continual funding support from a range of charitable trusts & foundations, businesses, and individuals, providing a great overall income and resources mix. 

With an estimated 4.5 million children in the UK living in poverty – including 1 million experiencing destitution and around 900,000 living in bed poverty – we have an aspiration to reach more children, in more areas of high need across the country. 

We are now looking to appoint, for the first time, a dedicated Fundraising Events Manager to work within our small and dynamic Fundraising & Supporter Engagement team. You will help us unlock the financial and awareness-raising potential that a programme of events can deliver as we seek to lift more children out of bed poverty across more parts of the country.

As our ideal candidate, you will need to be within commuting distance to our Leeds warehouse, meaning you can travel regularly to meet with the team. 

You will be someone who has proven experience in fundraising event management and/or the delivery of successful corporate events, from concept to execution. 

Alongside your fundraising-related skills and experience, we’ll be looking to see that you have a genuine care for our mission and, as such, are self-motivated to do a great job and be a values-led member of our team.

Ideally, you’ll have experience of working within a charity or not-for-profit organisation, due to some of the specialities that come with this. But charity experience is not essential if you can demonstrate an appetite and track record for continual learning and development across your working life to date.

Retina UK is a national charity based in Buckingham that funds cutting edge research into inherited sight loss conditions and offers dedicated support and information to the thousands of people living with these conditions.

We are looking for the right person to support, develop and coordinate a variety of areas of activity within the Income Generation team.

Key responsibilities:

* Assist with the administration and stewardship of supporters across the various income areas and maintain and improve supporter retention and engagement. Areas to support with will include: Community Fundraising, Trading, Challenge Events, Lottery, Legacies and Major Donors.

* Provide an exemplary stewardship programme for existing supporters whilst also developing new ideas to engage new supporters.

* Utilise the charity database, carry out regular analysis, generate reports as requested, ensure records and folders are accurate and up to date and provide regular feedback to the Head of Income Generation.

* Conduct regular supporter research, as requested, to ensure Retina UK remains innovative with its fundraising activities. 

* Support with updating the database and printing letters for the Trusts, Foundations and Corporates proposals, reports and thank you letters.

* Ensure that our webpages are regularly updated with new events, ways of getting involved, photographs, case studies and impact quotes.

* Liaise with venues, supporters, exhibitors and attendees ahead of fundraising events and activities, including our Conferences, Sight Village and key challenge events, including London Marathon.

* Thank supporters in the appropriate manner and update and refresh supporter letter templates quarterly to effectively communicate the value of donor contributions. Mix up our thanking methods – calls, letters, emails – as appropriate.

* Take a proactive approach in guiding supporters and potential fundraisers on how they can be involved with Retina UK.  Offer clear advice on fundraising opportunities and ensure incoming enquiries are directed to relevant activities that align with their interests and needs, by staying up to date on our products and ways they get can involved.

* Work collaboratively to maintain an efficient and practical administrative process and arrange, attend and take minutes at Income Generation team meetings as and when required.

* Any other duties as reasonably requested by the Head of Income Generation, Senior Management Team and Chief Executive.
