What will I be doing?

At FareShare, we stop good food from going to waste and give it to people who need it in our local community. Our Volunteer Drivers deliver food to our Community Food Members which is vital to ensuring the donated food we receive gets to the right people, instead of going to landfill.
What will I be doing?

FareShare Greater Manchester is looking for safe, confident drivers to join our busy, friendly delivery team.
We re-distribute tonnes of surplus food a month to charities and community initiatives across Greater Manchester. This is an achievement of which we’re proud, and want to expand and is why we need your driving and delivery skills to support our growing operation, especially in these current times of increased need.
Key responsibilities
Driving a van to deliver surplus food orders to the premises of the various Community Food Members we support.
Loading and unloading the vehicle and carrying out a range of tasks, from basic vehicle checks to delivery administration.
As a Delivery Driver at FareShare, you will be driving a temperature-controlled 3.5 tonnes Mercedes Sprinter van; working closely with a Driver’s Assistant to re-distribute food orders to the premises of a wide variety of Community Food Members. You will be involved with loading the vehicle and carrying out a range of tasks, from basic vehicle checks to delivery administration.
The required skills and attributes are as follows. You must:
Be aged 25 or over, with a clean driver's licence (or a maximum of 3 points).
(Experience of driving a van is desirable though not essential).
Be reliable and be able to commit to pre-agreed volunteer shifts.
Be physically fit to take on moving and handling of food orders.
Possess the ability to follow procedures and instructions.
Have good verbal communication skills.
Have a high respect for Health & Safety standards and procedures.
Have an interest in the work of FareShare Greater Manchester and our values.

Our operating hours are Monday - Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Drivers' 4 hour shifts begin at 8:30am.

You must be resident in the UK and living in Greater Manchester, or within easy commuting distance of our base, in order to volunteer with us. There are no exceptions to this rule. This is because we require volunteers to be able to reliably commit to regular shifts for some of our roles. We are unable to offer sponsorship for overseas applicants.

You’ll be passionate, as we are at Community Connexions, about helping people of all ages across Gloucestershire. The service you will provide means that thousands of people who might otherwise struggle due to physical, mental, social or rural barriers, get where they need to go.
You’ll be joining our group of trained Community Transport Volunteers (& qualified drivers) collecting people from their homes & taking them to a health appointment/social activity or picking them up from a health/day centre and dropping them home.
As a Community Connexions driver, you will be dedicated to providing safe transport that facilitates inclusion and participation, reducing loneliness from social and rural isolation. Your service will be vital for helping people retain their independence. As an example in 2020, our team helped over 90,000 passengers.
With your help we can be even better & reach still more people. Our services are reliable, punctual, safe and fully accessible. We’re inclusive & welcome people from all backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, religions, all walks of life, so come & join us as a volunteer!
Give as little or as much time as you can, some drivers are full-time, some offer a few half days a month. Volunteering with us a great way to help people in your community and it’s also an opportunity for you to meet new people and develop new skills.
We have opportunities in Tewkesbury, Cirencester, Tetbury, Stroud, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Dursley and across Gloucestershire.
We'll ask you to do a DVLA Licence check and we'll get you to complete the Disclosure and Barring Service certification.
We will not see you out of pocket, we'll cover your mileage expenses. We'll give you training and you’ll be part of our team. Our support staff are here to help you all the way.

We are looking for drivers who will be happy to drive our house vehicles or your own vehicle.
Activities will include:

Driving the people we support between their homes and services in a safe manner, in accordance with UK law.

Driving around the Castle Cary area, which will be the start and end point of the majority of journeys

Assisting people we support in and out of vehicles and locations – with assistance from trained Discovery staff.

Driving in a manner that is sensitive of physical and emotional requirements of the people we support.

Driving vehicles owned by the people we support or your own vehicle
Activities will NOT include: Personal care, medication or financial assistance.
We are looking for drivers who:

Are aged 21 or over, with at least 2 years driving experience

Hold a full, clean and current UK Driving License (or equivalent)

Have the ability to understand verbal and written instructions in relation to journeys

Are friendly with the people we support and our support staff

Are willing to commit to volunteer regularly (times and days can be discussed)
A DBS check and two character references will be required for this role.

We are looking for motivated, self-driven and passionate individuals to work with our client group and support them on their way to recovery.
Role Overview
The SHARP programme is a community-based rehabilitation service, for individuals with alcohol or drug addictions. Clients attend the service on a daily basis for abstinence-based, interpersonal group therapy.
There are two centres at which this service is operated 9 Coggeshall Road in Braintree and 34 Runwell Road in Wickford. The role of a volunteer driver involves using their own vehicle properly insured, to carry one or more clients to and from the SHARP programme and their home address. The routes are variable depending upon where clients live and the administrator at either site will agree the routes with each volunteer to ensure the most effective cost saving for the service.
Each volunteer can choose when to work and how often to undertake journeys to suit their own personal situation.
The service will refund the car mileage (at a rate of 45p per mile) for journeys that begin and end at their home address.
What you will be doing.....
• Arriving to collect and return clients in a timely fashion to ensure the client is punctual to the programme;
• Driving carefully and within the highway code to ensure safety of self, clients and other road users;
• Ensure that the vehicle used meets all relevant legal and safety standards and is properly insured for the carriage of passengers in a business context;
You will be providing important help and support for vulnerable people, and helping them on their journey to recovery and you will be giving back to the community.
There is a possibility that this role could progress into full or part time paid employment for the right person and the right role.
We pay your car milage, this is at a rate of 45p per mile.
Also a full induction into the team will be provided, including placement specific policies and procedures. The following training will be provided:
