We are looking for an inspirational new CEO to lead our dedicated team and continue to develop SLRA’s outstanding services and impact. You may be an experienced CEO or have the skills and determination needed to step up into the role. We are looking for someone who will ensure the continued exceptional impact of our work with local migrant individuals and communities and who will continue to develop our campaigning and policy influencing work at a time when the hostility of the external environment and government policies is more challenging than ever. SLRA is a well-established local migrant support organisation working with and for refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants who are at risk or in crisis because of immigration issues. We provide specialist immigration advice as well as a broad range of practical, social and therapeutic support services. We also campaign for a fairer immigration system, involving local people with lived experience in influencing local and national policy and practice.

The Role

This is a hands-on communications role sitting at the centre of a small, ambitious and growing charity.

The Communications Manager will take responsibility for planning, coordinating and delivering communications across Not A Phase. You will bring together communications from across our services, campaigns, fundraising, partnerships and events, ensuring that what we communicate is engaging, accessible, consistent and recognisably Not A Phase.

This is not simply a social media role. We are looking for someone who can see the bigger picture of the charity's communications while also being comfortable doing the work themselves - writing copy, developing campaigns, briefing creatives, producing content, updating the website, coordinating photography and filming, creating newsletters and making sure projects actually get delivered.

You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation to understand what is happening within our services and turn that activity into compelling communications for our community, supporters, partners, funders and the wider public.

You will also play an important role in protecting and developing the voice of Not A Phase: positive, confident, human, community-led and grounded in the lived experiences of trans+ people.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy, Planning & Coordination

• Own and deliver an organisation-wide communications plan aligned with Not A Phase’s strategy and priorities.

• Maintain a forward calendar covering services, campaigns, events, partnerships, fundraising and key dates.

• Work across teams to identify opportunities, coordinate activity and ensure projects are supported from launch through to impact.

2. Content, Storytelling & Brand

• Lead on writing and editing clear, accessible content for web, email, campaigns, reports, fundraising, partnerships and organisational updates.

• Tell compelling stories that reflect the breadth of our work and celebrate trans+ community, creativity, achievement and joy.

• Protect and develop the Not A Phase brand, messaging and tone of voice, helping colleagues and partners communicate consistently.

3. Digital, Social & Campaigns

• Lead our digital and social media communications, representing our programmes, locations, communities and partnerships.

• Plan joined-up campaigns across social media, email, web and partner channels, including relevant LGBTQIA+ and diversity calendar moments.

• Keep our website and email communications current, grow audiences and use performance data to improve activity.

4. Content Capture & Creative Production

• Plan photography, video, testimonials and other content across services and events.

• Attend selected activities to capture or coordinate content, managing external creatives where needed.

• Maintain an organised asset library and ensure consent, safeguarding and privacy processes are followed.

5. Community Reach & Service Communications

• Clearly communicate our services, who they are for and how to access them.

• Develop targeted communications to increase participation and reach new and underrepresented audiences, including people outside major cities.

• Use feedback to make communications clearer, more accessible and effective.

6. Partnerships, Fundraising & Impact

• Support fundraising and partnership communications, clearly showing the value and impact of support.

• Create materials, stories and case studies using service data, feedback and testimonials.

• Work collaboratively with external partners on developing and promoting partnership communications.

• Help communicate organisational progress and strengthen relationships with supporters, funders and partners.

7. Media & Responsive Communications

• Support our external profile through press releases, statements, briefings, media relationships and spokesperson preparation.

• Work with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team on sensitive or fast-moving communications, using sound judgement and keeping responses grounded in our mission.

• Prepare appropriate messaging where public or reputational issues arise.

8. Insight & Improvement

• Monitor performance, set practical communications KPIs and report useful insight to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team.

• Use audience data to improve communications, systems and processes, while keeping up with relevant charity and digital communications practice.

Essential

• UK Based 

• Experience in a charity, community or purpose-led organisation.

• Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to make complex information clear and engaging.

• Strong communications, marketing or content experience, including multi-channel campaigns.

The Person

We are a small team delivering a growing UK-wide programme, so we need someone comfortable taking ownership.

The role is varied: you might plan a national campaign, update a Trans+Connect webpage, coordinate content at a Misfits session or prepare communications for a new partnership.

You will spot strong stories across the charity and turn them into effective communications.

You will understand that good communications are about reaching the right people, telling meaningful stories, building trust and demonstrating impact.

You will bring structure and forward planning while retaining the personality, creativity and community-led approach that makes Not A Phase distinctive.

About the Innovation and Project Officer role

Supporting innovation across the organisation, you will help to develop and deliver programmes that grow our membership, reach and influence. Samaritans is the UK and Ireland’s leading suicide prevention charity. While we are best known for listening to those who need us, we also work to influence change through our policy, advocacy campaigning and relationships with political stakeholders.

The Policy, Public Affairs and Campaigns team of five works alongside people with lived experience, our campaigners, supporters and volunteers to push for the public policy and legal changes that will help us achieve our vision. We work to achieve system change through our work with the Westminster parliament, UK Government departments, policy makers and service leads, alongside our offices in the nations. We're looking for a Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager to lead this area of work.

• Overseeing our advocacy campaigning activity across England and line managing the Public Affairs and Campaigns Officer, ensuring that our advocacy campaigns are rooted in lived experience, and that our supporters have a positive ongoing experience. 
• Leading the implementation of our public affairs and campaign strategies to achieve change on Samaritan’s key influencing priorities
• Identifying, creating, and evaluating opportunities and mechanisms to increase political engagement and persuade decision makers to take positive action on suicide prevention 
• Identifying, cultivating and maintaining excellent relationships across the UK parliament and key political decision makers. 
• Working across the charity to connect all of our relevant work to Parliamentary audiences, including support for Samaritans branches and volunteers on public affairs activities

Main Responsibilities 

We are looking for a highly motivated and organised individual to coordinate our accreditation scheme. The role will work with our network of employers, and support new organisations through the accreditation process. 

The Programme Officer will support our work across the South East and support our managers to grow and deepen engagement with Living Wage Employers through our associated schemes. You will help to ensure our resources and publicity materials are well written and up-to-date, and to coordinate events to grow our employer network. 

Working as the Programme Officer for Citizens UK, reporting to a Programme Manager, your main responsibilities will include: 

Contribute towards the achievement of CUK and LWF’s strategic objectives

Understand how the role contributes to LWF’s purpose and the core mission of CUK

Reliably implement CUK’s and LWF’s policies, procedures, and values in own work

Work with CUK community organisers and leaders to promote civic engagement with and ownership of the Living Wage campaign

• Support key contacts at potential LW Employers through the accreditation process, from dealing with initial enquiries to guiding them through the employer journey, to checking and processing their accreditation 

• Develop rewarding relationships with key employers, industry, and campaign partners within our networks to build interest in the Living Wage and deliver a high-quality experience to our accredited employers 

• With support from the wider team, develop plans and strategies to grow the number of accreditations in specific regions or industries

• Support the development and implementation of projects to promote and grow Living Wage accreditations and develop the quality of service offered
