At Mid Norfolk Mencap we are passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities and their families. Enabling people to live independently, person-centred care is at the heart of what we do.

Our mission is to support and enable the people who use our services to lead fulfilling lives, to be involved in their local wider community, and to have access to the same opportunities as all members of society.

Mid Norfolk Mencap was established since 1977, and every year we provide residential living, social opportunities, and specialised Community Outreach support for more than 100 people with a learning disability in Norfolk. However, with around 16,500 adults in Norfolk with a learning disability, we know we can do so much more.

This is an exciting time for us as we work to grow and strengthen our services. As a trustee you will play a vital role in helping us deliver a stronger and more sustainable organisation for the benefit of our service users, their families, and for the staff who work to deliver those services.

Position: Trustee

Location: Trustee Board meetings and many of our charity’s activities take place in Dereham. In addition, some work may be required remotely using Zoom/ Teams, or in other parts of Norfolk from time to time.

Salary: This position is unpaid but reasonable expenses may be paid.

Responsibilities

This role is suited to candidates who can demonstrate professional or skills-based knowledge of benefit to the charity. We would particularly welcome applications from people with experience in the third sector, PR, fundraising, governance, risk management, management and law, and accountancy.

• You are willing to be available to provide guidance to the senior management team on an ad hoc basis.

Training

You will be given a basic induction to the charity and opportunities to meet with the senior management team. We also strongly encourage trustees to spend time participating in our services delivery, getting to know our staff and volunteers – and most importantly, our beneficiaries. We will customise a training and familiarisation package for the successful candidate based on prior knowledge and experience.

Share Community is seeking a Chair for our Board of Trustees, and up to three further Trustees to fill upcoming vacancies on our Board.

Role: Chair, Share Community

The Chair is a crucial role for Share, working closely with the Chief Executive to provide inspirational leadership, and ensure the charity delivers its mission and vision. Alongside all the other trustees the Chair will provide oversight of the Charity’s governance and strategic direction.

The Chair will be committed to reducing the social injustice faced by disabled people, and model Share’s organisational values: we’re inclusive, supportive and ambitious and work with kindness, integrity and respect.

The principal responsibilities of the Chair include:

• Leading the trustee body in ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of Share Community;
• Working in partnership with the Chief Executive, Executive Team and other trustees to ensure the charity delivers on its strategic and charitable objectives, vision, purpose and values;
• Ensuring that the Board reviews strategic issues, risks and opportunities on a regular basis, and can satisfy itself that systems are in place to take advantage of opportunities and mitigate risks.

Share is seeking a leader with experience at Board level as either a Trustee or Executive Director. Previous experience as a Chair is not a requirement of the role.

Role: Trustee, Share Community

Share’s trustee team has responsibility for overseeing strategy and performance. Share currently has ten trustees, and in light of some current trustees coming to the end of their term, is looking to recruit three more with the enthusiasm, skills and commitment we need to help guide Share through the next phase of its development.

Prospective Trustees must have a commitment to Share’s vision and values, and a passion for making a difference in the lives of disabled people. Share is particularly keen to encourage applications from individuals with specific experience of:

• Fundraising, particularly growing or diversifying income streams;
• Property and estates management;
• Setting up or running a social enterprise.

Share is looking for people with or without Board level experience, and we would welcome applications from adults of all ages.

Share is a charity based in Wandsworth and Lambeth, working with adults with learning disabilities and autism.

The story of Share began in 1972, when a group of disabled people came together as a self-help group to improve employment and training opportunities for disabled people. Over the years, Share has grown and evolved, responding to changing needs and opportunities.

Share appointed a new Chief Executive in 2022, and the Charity is in the second year of a three-year strategy. Delivery of our strategy will help Share achieve its mission of providing a safe, empowering and progressive experience where disabled adults can develop their skills, wellbeing and purpose to enable them to live happier, healthier and more independent lives.

Sutton Mental Health Foundation was established as a charity in 1998 and the aim of the Foundation is to support people with mental health needs in the London Borough of Sutton, helping to keep them well and active and helping them to have a voice in mental health care in the Borough.  Our vision is to provide a community in Sutton which values mental wellbeing and understands how to respond positively to anxiety and distress.  The Foundation works together to promote mental wellbeing resilience and recovery from mental distress.We provide nonclinical support, and we are part of the Voluntary Sector. 

The Foundation is seeking to add to the expertise of our experienced, professional Board of Trustees, who are all volunteers.  All our Trustees need excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, strategic vision and good, independent judgement.  Although not limited to, we would particularly value the experience and skills in the following areas :

The Board of Trustees meets every six weeks, in the evening at 7 p.m. for approximately 1 ½ hours in Sutton.  Sometimes our Board meetings are on-line.

Kidderminster Foodbank are seeking to recruit Trustees with an interest in helping others, who are willing to uphold the food bank’s values, and who can bring life experience to the board of trustees. Trustees have collective responsibility for the governance of the organisation and for all decisions made by the Board. They set the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to our values, and are responsible for setting organisational policy, defining goals, agreeing the financial plan, evaluating performance, and ensuring that strong relationships are maintained between the Trustees and the Management & Volunteer Team.

Key tasks:                            

• To manage the charity’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity.
• To ensure the board regularly reviews its structures, roles, relationship to staff and implementing changes if and when necessary.
• To develop a long-term strategy for the food bank with clear objectives which can be monitored and adapted.
• To work alongside the Treasurer and the board to ensure the organisation’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined (on income over £25k) and made publicly available when necessary.
• To ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
• To ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• To help promote the organisation to a wide audience of potential funders and beneficiaries and community stakeholders.
• To ensure the food bank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• To act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
• To prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.
• To provide ad hoc support to the staff team and volunteers from time to time.
• To act at all times in accordance with the foodbank’s trustee code of conduct.

The Trustees may also undertake additional work for the charity between meetings subject to their availability and skill set.

We are looking for new trustees with experience of working in HR or fundraising to join our experienced and committed board. We are particualrly interetested in trustees who have lived experience of migration, either from claiming asylum in the UK or navigating the immigration system. You will join our main trustee board and one of our committees depending on your expertise.

LRMN exists to empower refugees and other migrants and to bring about systemic change to remove the challenges they face. Our services include providing specialist legal advice on immigration, housing and welfare, supporting those who need to improve their skills through training and volunteering as well as helping them gain employment.  We support women who survived gender-based abuse including rape, trafficking, domestic violence and more and we offer them 1:1 counselling and therapeutic activities.  In addition, we provide mental health and well-being support to those who are suffering from non-clinical mental health issues. We advocate and campaign against policies that are not fair and just and which uphold hostile environment. We also provide hardship funds and food parcels to destitute clients.

As a trustee you will be expected to attend a quarterly board meeting, join a sub-committee which also meets quarterly and offer support relevant to your expertise. We have three sub-committees: Organisation Development; Finance, Risk and Compliance; and Fundraising and Marketing. Meetings normally take place in the evening from 6pm and last about 2 hours. The sub-committee meetings are online and the full board meetings are a mix of online and in-person meetings. You will need to be able to attend face to face meetings in London.

The Compliance and Secretary Trustee manages the administrative duties of Hidayah. They fall into three main categories; Membership Administration, GDPR and Compliance Governance. Duties include, but aren’t limited to:

Membership Administration:

• Maintaining Hidayah’s membership database
• Gathering data relating to Hidayah events and activities to feed into the annual report and publicity documents (for example, surveys, excel spreadsheets and graphs, case studies)
• Effectively communicate updates to Hidayah members via CRM systems
• Promoting events in conjunction with the Communication & Marketing Trustee
• Evaluating, managing and continually improve the Hidayah membership experience (managing the end-to-end cycle)
• Regularly check, maintain and update Hidayah’s administration and data handling systems such as using Google Drive to store information

GDPR:

• Reviewing and keep all Hidayah policies updated in accordance to legal requirements and Charity Commission guidelines
• Ensuring that Hidayah membership records are GDPR compliant
• Updating trustees on any changes to the Charity Commission guidelines
• Where necessary, assisting the HR Officer in gathering relevant data on volunteers
• Supporting the HR Officer in creating flowcharts and processes in line with current legislation

Compliance Governance:

• Supporting Hidayah Trustees with compliance specific queries for finance, volunteers and membership
• Maintaining records and registers for auditing purposes
• Regularly auditing policies to determine risk involved and finding mitigating strategies
• Coordinating with the Deputy Chair to ensure that trustees are compliant with policies and procedures

How much time is required?

We are flexible around your schedule but we anticipate that this role will take up to 4 hours a week. The following commitments are in place for all member of the Hidayah board:

• Aim to attend all Trustee meetings, delivering a comprehensive report with updates and to complete actions as and when they appear
• Aim to attend all other planning meetings as necessary
• Attend Hidayah events (where geographically possible)
• Help to fundraise for, and advertise, any Hidayah events and fundraising drives
• Add to and maintain the administration of our file sharing system ‘Google Drive’ to ensure it’s up to date with clear records, templates and forms
• Check and respond to emails in a timely manner
• Contribute to the communications group (via Discord) and stay up to date with Hidayah developments
• Provide information, statements and data for the annual report
• Keep up to date with Hidayah communication and organisational developments

This role is subject to a 6 months probationary period with a 2 month notice period should you wish to resign.

This role is in place until the next AGM (August 2024) with extension subject to Board Member approval.

Oxfordshire Breastfeeding Support (OBS) is a small charity (a charitable incorporated organisation or CIO) providing free direct breastfeeding support to the families of Oxfordshire - via a mixture of virtual one to one appointments, in-person sessions, Zoom groups, a private Facebook group, antenatal workshops and work targeted at groups that are under-represented. OBS is seeking to recruit a trustee to act as treasurer of trustees for a period of 2-3 years. In addition to the responsibilities of a general trustee, treasurer of the trustees will:

• Provide financial leadership to the board of trustees, offering valuable insights and recommendations on financial planning, budgeting, and investment decisions.

This would also include assisting in the preparation of the financial information for grant applications and assisting with preparing reports at the end of the grant period to show compliance with financial restrictions of any grants

• Keep abreast of financial trends, legal requirements, and best practices in the charity sector, sharing relevant insights with the board and staff

We are looking for a team player with experience of finance and fundraising best practice, preferably within the charity sector, to join our Board of Trustees As we continue to expand our services, our new Treasurer will help us to develop our procedures and strategies to ensure we maintain good governance. Applicants must also be prepared to take on the wider responsibilities of becoming a charity Trustee.

​This is a hands on role which requires close working with our CEO, Finance Manager, Chair of Trustees and Accountants. You will help us to review and implement new financial processes and budgeting procedures, develop new investment and fundraising policies and ensure that we operate in line with best practice. Safeguarding: As a safeguarding charity whose work and practice are underpinned by safeguarding principles to protect children and young people and enhance their welfare, we always work in accordance with legislation, statutory guidance, and best safeguarding practices. All our roles require a basic criminal record check.

The Trustees’ primary role is to ensure that Ferne fulfils its charitable objectives (see page 4) and that monies received are used effectively. In order to carry out this key role, Trustees (as a Board) must do the following:

Mandate and reputation

Ensure that the charity is properly focussed on its charitable objectives and constitution and operates within the law. The Trustees are responsible for preserving the charity’s good name and reputation.

Strategic Planning

Work with the CEO and the leadership team to plan strategically for the future. Meet at least once a year to review the plan, then update or replace it as circumstances and needs change. The strategic plan is a changing, active document to which all trustees contribute. It is their job to challenge, assess and review the plan before approving the final strategy for the following five years.

Objectives, business plan and budgets

Approve Ferne’s objectives on an annual basis through the business plan and budgets that are submitted at Board meetings.

Risk Identification and Management

Challenge the leadership team to keep effective processes in place to identify potential risks that the charity faces. This risk register is reviewed and updated at each Board meeting.

Management Effectiveness and Succession

Ensure the leadership team is in place and operating effectively and efficiently. The role of Trustees is to question, scrutinise and monitor the leadership team, for which purpose Trustees should have the opportunity to constructively question, test, and challenge leaderships teams views and proposals in the spirit of achieving the charity’s objectives. Although not involved in the regular appointment of new staff, trustees actively recruit and appoint the CEO.

Internal Control and Management Information Systems

Ensure that effective systems exist to protect the organisation, and the necessary management information systems exist to assess and report back the charity’s performance and progress in meeting its objectives.

Accountability

Report back yearly to members, regulatory bodies, associated charities, staff and volunteers, and other stakeholders through the Annual Report, at the Annual general meeting and from time to time through the @Ferne magazine

The role:
We are looking for people who care about supporting local people in financial hardship and reducing inequality, who are willing to bring energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking and perspective on the board. Whether you bring expertise in housing, disability, mental health, or fundraising, your unique perspective would be invaluable to the Talking Money board.

We particularly welcome applications from people with direct or indirect (for example though a family member or friend) lived experience of the kinds of issues our clients face (e.g., poverty, financial hardship, over-indebtedness, homelessness).

Responsibilities:

As a trustee, you’ll play a pivotal role in:

• Overseeing organisational strategy and financial plans.
• Providing support and challenge to our executive team.
• Ensuring compliance with governing documents and legal obligations.
• Promoting and protecting the interests of Talking Money.

Time commitment and expenses:

• This is a voluntary position with reasonable expenses reimbursed.
• Minimum commitment of 17 hours per year, including board meetings and team events.
• Opportunities for professional development and training sessions

Terms of appointment:

• Initial 5-year term, with the possibility of renewal. Potential for progression to Chair of the Board.

Kids in Museums is looking for people who are passionate about improving access to culture for children, young people and families to join our Board of Trustees.

As a Trustee, you can help shape our mission to change the museum and heritage sector to make it better for all children, young people and families, particularly those who currently have the least access. You’ll be joining a dedicated Board that brings a wide range of skills and experiences to the charity and have the chance to become involved with exciting Kids in Museums programmes such as the Family Friendly Museum Award and Takeover Day.

Our Trustees have the opportunity to

• Learn new transferable skills such as strategic planning and risk management. 
• Join new professional networks in the museum sector and beyond.
• Give something back by improving access to the museum and heritage sector.

All Trustees receive a free package of training and support to help them settle into their roles. All expenses are covered by Kids in Museums. 

We are also looking for candidates who have:

• An interest in Kids in Museums’ mission to improve access to museums and heritage for families, children and young people.
• An analytical approach to decision-making.
• An ability to communicate clearly and engage with a range of different stakeholders, staff and volunteers.
• A set of skills to enable them to handle challenging situations. This could include offering advice under time pressure if the charity was facing a reputational challenge. Alternatively, it could be providing support and advice on a staff disciplinary process.
• An ability to give feedback to staff, volunteers and other Trustees kindly and constructively.
• A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
• A willingness to participate in the charity’s income generation work. This could include representing Kids in Museums at networking events, making introductions to potential supporters or reviewing funding applications.
