Volunteer Shop Assistants carry out a wide range of tasks in their roles. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, keeping our shop floor full and organised or supporting with raffle ticket sales and promoting gift aid.

How would you be supported in this role?

When you begin your role, you will receive a mix of e-learning and in-person training to get you started. Throughout the role, you will receive refresher training as required as well as ongoing support, reimbursement for role-related expenses and the opportunity to further shape the volunteering you do.

Why join The Humane League?

We exist to end the abuse of animals raised for food. We do this through delivering corporate-focused and legislative campaigns, demanding better animal welfare with an effective and pragmatic approach. You will help power our campaigns and make change happen.

The actions you take will play a vital role in opening the eyes of the general public to the truth of factory farming and place vital pressure onto our corporate targets. Your contributions will help reduce animal suffering and bring an end to the worst and most widespread abuse of animals raised for food.

We are currently looking for new volunteers to join us, especially in the following locations:

As a Campaign Volunteer, you will help us achieve change for animals by:

• Joining in-person events locally and nationally
• Including peaceful protests, public outreach and social meet-ups
• Events are organised by your local Grassroots Organiser or THL staff
• Travel and food expenses are available, to ensure as many people can attend as possible
• Taking part in campaign actions from home
• This may include writing emails and letters, making phone calls to companies, connecting with your MP and taking social media actions
• In addition to this, you can order leaflets and stickers to distribute locally for awareness raising
• And much more!

This flexible and rewarding role is perfect for those looking to make a difference for farmed animals but without a strict time commitment. Around 4-6 hours a month is the average for this role, depending on how much you choose to get involved with.

No prior experience is required, just a passion and drive to make a difference to animals. Whether you're retired, working full time, a student, or somewhere in between - we would love to welcome you.

Prison in reach volunteers support members of the Armed Forces community who are in prison. They make a real difference by providing essential support during these incredibly difficult times.

Our volunteers work closely with veterans in custody support officers, attending veteran forums, and offering one to one support, including making applications for financial assistance. We also connect clients with organisations, to help support pathways for positive change.

We are keen to increase volunteer diversity, especially from under-represented groups such as young people, those of working age and individuals from minoritised groups.

What you will be doing

• Attend group forums for veterans within the prison environment.
• Complete individual assessments and complete one to one personalised support for veterans within the prison environment, which includes casework.
• Promote the services available to family members.
• Establish an agreement around the rate of visits with the VCJS team and the prison.
• Record the support offered to veterans accordingly and appropriately.
• Complete monitoring reports.

The skills you need

• Be over 21.
• Have a good level of fitness to able to move around a prison quickly - including stairs.
• Excellent listening skills.
• Awareness of boundaries and confidentiality.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of people, including prison staff, other agencies, SSAFA colleagues and clients.
• Positive, committed and non-judgemental. Non-judgemental and empathetic attitude.
• Good IT skills.
• An enhanced DBS check is required for this role. Individual prisons will determine if they authorise individuals to be based in their facilities based on security considerations. Security Vetting by His Majesty’s Prison Service is often required. For further discussion, please get in touch.
• You will need to declare potential conflicts of interest, for example any family connection with the prison.

About us

At 2497 (Cosford) Squadron, we’re proud to be part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, a national youth organisation that empowers young people aged 12 to 20 to develop leadership skills, resilience, and confidence through exciting opportunities like flying, adventure training, sports, and community service.

We meet twice a week and we’re always looking for volunteers who are willing to try their hand at anything. You could find yourself teaching skills, running activities, or providing encouragement and moral support. If you have specialist skills, we can use them. If you want to learn new skills like rock climbing or gliding, we can train you.

• You’ll have an informal interview (usually when you make the first visit)

• Get access to the RAF Air Cadets online system to complete the final forms

We’re excited to announce the first-ever North West RSPCA Dogs’ Day Out event, taking place on the 5th of July at the Great Harwood Showground. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring our North West RSPCA community together, celebrate our important work and raise vital funds.

The event will be packed with exciting attractions, including:

�� A dog show

�� A Charity Supermarket

�� Agility demonstrations

�� Food and Drink

�� RSPCA Inspectorate demonstrations of their vital  life-saving activities for all creatures great and small!

To make this day a huge success, we need enthusiastic volunteers from 10am - 4pm. Whether you’re a long-term RSPCA volunteer or brand new in your role, we’d love your support! Refreshments will be provided and you'll be able to experience the event as a VIP!

Volunteer roles include:

Interacting with Attendees:

• Greet attendees, offer parking assistance

• Process entry payments

• Answer inquiries, provide directions/event info

• Proactively offer assistance as needed

Assisting with Activities:

• Support dog-themed activities & other games

• Engage participants, offer encouragement

• Assist with crowd control & queue management

Creating a Welcoming Atmosphere:

• Decorate event space, arrange seating/activity areas

• Maintain clean environment & accessibility

• Help set-up and close down the event 

Providing Information:

• Share your RSPCA volunteer experiences

• Distribute informational materials.

• Answer questions, promote RSPCA & collect contact info if needed

Driver’s Assistants help deliver food to our Community Food Members which is vital to ensuring the food gets to people who need it.

What will I be doing?

• Travelling with Volunteer Drivers to deliver and collect food
• Loading and unloading food orders, planning routes and completing paperwork
• Supporting drivers to drive responsibly, cleaning the van, reporting any issues or accidents
• Representing FareShare in a courteous and professional manner.

What you need to be:

• Ability to perform physical manual handling tasks safely including loading/unloading food from the van
• Ability to complete paperwork and follow directions via Sat Nav system/map
• Adaptable and flexible. Managing surplus food is unpredictable and tasks vary
• Positive, friendly and personable
• Work well in a team and on your own
• Follow health and safety policies & procedures.

Volunteer Befriender

Octavia works with people affected by unemployment, ill health, social isolation or low income to connect them with opportunities for positive personal change. Our vision is to build stronger, happier and healthier communities in central and west London to help create an enriched life where we live. Please help us to do this by volunteering to befriend a member of the local community, who is isolated and vulnerable, in Westminster or Kensington and Chelsea.

Reasons to volunteer

Would you like to assist an isolated person in your local area? Would you like to provide them with the emotional support, social skills and confidence that will help them to feel happier in their everyday life?

 You will know that you have helped someone to move on in their life and take part in society

What would I be doing?

 Meeting once a week with the person you have been matched with, in their own home or an agreed public place, at a mutually agreed time
 Encourage communication on a shared interest or topic
 Arrange activities and listen to your Befriendee with empathy and encouragement
 On occasion you may be asked by your befriendee to accompany/escort them outside on a one to one basis or do some shopping in circumstances where they are unable to

What skills are we looking for?

 Good communication skills
 Understanding of empathy and the needs of people with isolation issues
 Understanding of confidentiality
 Able to use own initiative and work unsupervised, reliable and trustworthy
 We ask that you volunteer for 1 hour per week, for a minimum of 6 months

When you aplply, we ask for 2 references but these do not need to be from employers. For instance, they can be character references from college tutors or support workers who know you well. We also carry out Enhanced Disclosure checks on all volunteers, but this would only happen if we both agree that Befriending is the right fit for you.
