Your contribution
We are looking for Volunteers for a range of activities including befriending, pastoral care, outreach, teaching ESL, casework, admin and counselling. It’s an exciting time to join our team as we are implementing steps to expand our work to support more women.
We need volunteers who are willing to help, with a caring approach and sensitivity to the challenges involved in this work. All volunteers will receive training. Volunteer Counsellors must be qualified to a minimum of Level 5 Diploma or Degree level and be a member of the ACC, BACP or UKCP, and will receive supervision.
Please note that commencement of volunteer activities is dependent on placement and necessary onboarding for specific roles.
Time committment will vary for each placement, dependent on requirements, but generally this would be between 5 to 10 hours per month.

The Democratic Progress Institute (DPI) is seeking to appoint several legal volunteers with an interest in our work relating to conflict resolution. We are offering a number of internships to outstanding candidates. Admission to our internship program is on a rolling-basis, lasting at least three months, and is unpaid. The successful candidates will be current or recent postgraduates or at post-doctoral level.
Volunteers recruited to DPI’s International Law Department will assist with all areas of its work, in particular, current projects relating to the implementation of ECtHR judgments in Turkey and legal analysis on matters related to international humanitarian law. Other work could include legal research, monitoring and analysis of human rights issues, documentation/organisation of legal materials, analysis of ECtHR judgments, preparing and drafting communications to United Nations bodies, contributing to casework, preparing papers for submission to the Human Dimension of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, editing reports, and providing general support to the legal team. In return, we will provide experience of and insight into the world of international human rights litigation and exposure to legal research at the forefront of conflict-resolution and peace-building.
The suitable candidate will be available ideally full time (Monday to Friday, 9.30 to 17.30) but other arrangements can be made. You will have the opportunity to assist with the general work of the legal department for a period of three to six months, with a particular focus on our legal case-work and on the implementation of ECtHR judgments in Turkey. Candidates are expected to have excellent verbal and written English skills, a strong visual eye, good attention to detail and strong organisational skills. Our wonderful charity team is expanding and we are looking to take on more compassionate, reliable and conscientious volunteers with an interest in walking and helping others. We are looking to take on volunteers across the UK for facilitating in-person events.
One of the most effective support events we provide is in the form of our short walking and talking get togethers for those who are grieving. We are looking to increase our in-person get togethers across the country and are recruiting some volunteers to help us do so.
What does it involve? We meet as a small group, grab a tea/coffee, and mosey along together. This could be in a local park, along a canal, in the countryside, etc. It’s pretty simple but can be hugely cathartic and effective for those who are really struggling with their loss and feeling isolated. We are passionate about offering the best possible care to an often-ignored population.
Walking volunteer roles involve facilitating a social get together / walk for people whose loved ones have died from cancer. This largely involves being the meet and greet person for those attending. Volunteers are welcome to design the get together (choosing a location locally) or we can help you do so. The walks are very informal and relaxed, and are targeted at bringing people together rather than having to cover many miles. Get togethers normally last 1-2 hours.
We will provide full training for the role and supervision, along with continued training opportunities. We ask for at least a 18-month commitment, which involves facilitating up to 4-6 walks a year.

We are looking for trained Clinical Supervisors who have been practising for over 3 years to lead supervision sessions with our volunteer Mentors. We hold these bi-weekly in groups of 3-4 over lunchtime or evenings online.
What will you be doing?
All Been There Mentors who work with our Mentees have monthly group supervision. Usually there are four volunteers in a group. Supervision can take place in person or on zoom.

We are urgently looking for a warm and energetic Befriender to provide social support and a fun, safe space for these young people. We need someone who is able to engage with young people in a positive and friendly way, helping them overcome their experiences and not feel defined by their illness. You would play a key role in boosting a young person’s confidence by being an extra person in their support circle, and providing a distraction from their illness to enable them to feel a sense of normality.

Bright Futures UK works with young people who are suffering long-term, serious illness of both mental or physical in nature. We are looking for lovely, warm and energetic personalities to provide educational support to these young people. We are looking for a volunteer tutor to teach with our young person and provide a safe space for them to learn, have fun and express themselves. Many of our young people are incredibly isolated and have missed so much school and have requested someone to help with their missed out learning and teach them on a 1:1 basis and to have some fun with them and help get them social again. Our befrienders and tutors can work online or in person depending on what time commitment and flexibility you have. We are so grateful for any support you might be able to provide, as are our young people.
This is a volunteer role for anyone who is interested in working with vulnerable young people and/or teaching. We are looking for someone who wants experience teaching with young people who are experiencing serious health complications with either mental or physical illness. The Winch operates two main facilities; its main offices in Swiss Cottage and Belsize Community Library. The Winch is facing some important decisions about our main offices and the potential development of new facilities under a section 106 agreement in an adjacent, private development. This has important implications for the charity – both in practical terms, but also because the children and young people we support have a strong emotional connection to our location.
We are looking for a Trustee who can help develop and lead our property strategy on behalf of the Board. Ideally, you will bring experience of property development and/or negotiating the commissioning and delivery of significant capital projects.

This is a voluntary role. The time commitment includes the following on average:
- Prepare for and attend at least four full Board meetings a year
- Prepare for and attend an annual away day or two half-days
- Prepare for and attend occasional meetings or contribute to time-limited trustee working groups
- Be available for advice and support to the executive team on specific issues in which a trustee has particular expertise
As well as the full Board, we have a Finance Committee and an HR & Governance Committee, which you would be welcome to join should you be successful in your application. Both committees meet four times a year.
