Age UK Hammersmith and Fulham is seeking a dynamic person as our next Chair. Building on recent success you will ensure our Board delivers its strategy for local people working closely with our Chief Executive.
What will you be doing?
In addition to the general responsibilities of a Trustee, the duties of the Chair include the following.
- Providing leadership to the organisation and the board by ensuring that everyone remains focused on the delivery of the organisation’s charitable purposes in order to provide greater public benefit
- Chairing and facilitating board meetings
- Giving direction to board policy-making
- Checking that decisions taken at meetings are implemented
- Representing the organisation at functions and meetings, and acting as a spokesperson as appropriate
- Bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision-making
With the Chief Executive:
- Planning the annual cycle of board meetings and other general meetings where required, for example annual general meeting
- Setting agendas for board and other general meetings
- Developing the board of trustees including induction, training, appraisal and succession planning
- Addressing conflict within the board and within the organisation, and liaising with the chief executive (if staff are employed) to achieve this
- Where staff are employed:
- Liaising with the chief executive to keep an overview of the organisation’s affairs and to provide support as appropriate
- Leading the process of supporting and appraising the performance of the chief executive
- Sitting on appointment and disciplinary panels
What are we looking for?
- Able to think strategically and creatively to enhance the development and prosperity of Age UK Hammersmith and Fulham
- Have independent judgement combined with the ability to challenge appropriately.
- They will have to read and analyze documents and should be able to provide constructive feedback.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team to ensure constructive decision making, including speaking openly on controversial subjects to enhance discussion and to enable the views of others to be explored.
- Good interpersonal skills including oral and written communication.
- Know the third sector, have been a Trustee for another charity, and have a real interest in older people.
- Strong leadership, people management skills and the ability to chair meetings effectively.
- An understanding of legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship, together with an understanding of the financial aspects of running a charity.
- An understanding of the way in which the Third Sector works.
- Possess integrity, objectivity, accountability, honesty

We are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for our Braintree group. As our local Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible. For over 50 years, Magpas Air Ambulance has been at the frontline of emergency medical response, dispatching to over 2,000 life-threatening incidents every year. Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, we work in close partnership with the NHS to deliver the highest standard of pre-hospital emergency care when every second counts.
We serve the communities of Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, and across the East of England—supporting a population of over 10 million. Dispatched by both the East of England and East Midlands Ambulance Service Trusts, we are proud to be a vital part of our region’s emergency response network.
Join Our Board
To complement the expertise of our current board and broaden its diversity and skills, we’re seeking committed individuals to join us as Trustees. We’re especially interested in hearing from candidates with experience in:
- Legal practice
- Environmental sustainability
- Fundraising and income generation

- Non-clinical trustee: We currently have a vacancy for a non-clinical trustee who will also take on the role of Company Secretary.
- Clinical trustee: We’re also recruiting for a future clinical trustee. This role will begin with a one-year advisory period (shadowing a current trustee), transitioning into a full trustee role upon their retirement. Candidates must be registered medical practitioners with board-level experience and strong governance knowledge.
What Trustees Do
Trustees are responsible for the charity’s governance, strategic direction, financial stewardship, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with our CEO and Executive Leadership Team, playing a key role in shaping the future of Magpas Air Ambulance.
We provide a full induction and training, plus one-to-one support where needed.
Commitment
This is a voluntary role. Trustees are expected to commit to:
- Attending 1 in-person meeting per month
- Joining one of our subcommittees (virtual):

- Workforce & Remuneration
- Attending an annual board development/planning session

Volunteer Shop Assistants carry out a wide range of tasks in their roles. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, keeping our shop floor full and organised or supporting with raffle ticket sales and promoting gift aid.
How would you be supported in this role?
When you begin your role, you will receive a mix of e-learning and in-person training to get you started. Throughout the role, you will receive refresher training as required as well as ongoing support, reimbursement for role-related expenses and the opportunity to further shape the volunteering you do.
Why do we need volunteers in this role?
Age UK operates charity shops to raise funds for the delivery of services for older people in need. Volunteers play a key role in the shop team, ensuring our shops are welcoming places in the community and selling the items that are generously donated to our organisation.
