Overseas Support Volunteer

Hospices of Hope is the only UK charity dedicated to the development of hospice care services throughout South and East Europe. We are dedicated to improving the lives of terminally ill patients in Romania and surrounding countries by supporting local hospice partners. We believe that everyone deserves the best possible care at the end of their life. However, in developing countries like Romania, many patients still die in pain without being offered any physical, spiritual, or emotional comfort.

We are looking for some enthusiastic volunteers with a variety of skills and interests to join us on our Summer Trips to Romania in 2026, which provide a much-needed break for children. There are two different groups of children that enjoy the trips. Some are affected by rare or life-limiting illnesses, others have experienced trauma through the death of a close relative. The other group of children who attend are relatives of patients in our care.

The children who benefit from our trips are often completely neglected by health care and social service systems. Our Summer Trips are an opportunity for them to relax, have fun, share stories, and find comfort in each other.

The trip includes airfares from London, transfers to and from the airport in Romania, your disclosure and barring service check, training, and accommodation. If you opt for the first trip, only breakfast and lunch are provided on the days you are at the hospice. You will need to pay for evening and weekend meals. If you opt for the second trip, whilst at the camp, all meals are provided. Again, you will need to pay for weekend meals.

The hours you attend will differ depending on which trip you attend; however, your role as a volunteer will involve you engaging with the children doing enjoyable activities, crafts, games, and much more. It is a chance for them to enjoy being children and just have some fun.

Community and Fundraising Volunteers play a vital role in raising funds and awareness to support mums experiencing perinatal mental health challenges. This is a friendly, hands-on role where you’ll help plan, prepare, and deliver fundraising and community engagement activities. From supporting events and running stalls to chatting with supporters and sharing information about MumsAid’s services, you’ll be an important part of a welcoming and supportive team. 

No previous experience is required — just enthusiasm, reliability, and a genuine desire to support mums and their families. 

What will you be doing? 

• Supporting the planning and delivery of fundraising and community events, such as charity stalls, coffee mornings, sponsored activities, and awareness days.

About the role:

We are currently seeking qualified, women solicitor, barrister and qualified legal executive volunteers to provide legal advice on our Sexual Harassment at Work (Employment Law) advice line. All volunteering is done remotely and you must be qualified to practice in England and Wales.

What will you be doing?

Our free telephone advice line provides vital legal advice for women experiencing sexual harassment at work, supported by legal advisors with experience in employment, discrimination and harassment law. We offer a safe space for women to talk about their situation and receive expert legal advice to enable them to make important decisions about their future.

We ask all our volunteers to:

• Provide advice on our advice lines for one 2-hour session a month (minimum);
• Attend the induction training session provided by Rights of Women;
• Give clear and accurate legal advice to callers;
• Be non-judgemental and non-discriminatory in their approach;
• Follow our procedures for making records of calls and obtaining monitoring information;
• Keep up to date with the law for the relevant advice lines;
• Attend all agreed advice line sessions (remotely);
• Inform us as soon as possible if they are unable to attend an agreed session;
• Abide by Rights of Women’s procedures, standards and policies, including equal opportunities and confidentiality in relation to staff, volunteers and users.

Mary's Living & Giving for Save the Children is unique - a vibrant result of the generous gifts of local individuals and companies being turned around by the skills and passions of volunteer teams, to create a destination retail experience. We hold a prime position on the picturesque Church Street and from our little pink shop we raise lifesaving funds for Save The Children’s work both in the U.K. and abroad. Our Stoke Newington Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

We provide activities, opportunities, information, and support for people with a learning disability or autism, their parents, and siblings.
For all our projects and activities we are dependent on volunteers.

Our Employability Project
10am to 3pm, Monday and/or Friday during term-time

Our Employment & Life Skills Project (ELSP) helps adults with learning disabilities or autism to access further education, work experience and visits to mainstream community opportunities. 

What you’ll do
You’ll act as a mentor to the members of the group.  You’ll be helping the group(s) develop a range of life skills, things that many of us take for granted.  These include Maths and English skills, independent living, the use of public transport, social skills and even the sourcing of employment. 

For the people in these groups, these things can be very difficult to develop and achieve without regular support. Through regular support and meetings, members and volunteers develop greater trust, skills, and confidence together.

What you need
You do not need experience. Full disability awareness training will be provided before you begin volunteering with us.
The only requirements we ask of you are enthusiasm, energy and to be open-minded.
Minimum age for volunteers is 20.

How much time?
The project runs from 10am to 3pm, Mondays and/or Fridays during term-time.
Everyone gets the most out of the project if you come every week for at least a term as you'll build a close relationship with the members you'll have been supporting and will create the most impact.

We’re seeking compassionate, reliable adults to become Independent Visitors - volunteer mentors and trusted friends to children and young people in care.

What is an Independent Visitor?

An Independent Visitor (IV) is a volunteer befriender and mentor who visits a young person in care once a month, usually on weekends, to enjoy fun, supportive activities together. As an IV, you’ll be a consistent, caring adult outside their professional network - someone who chooses to be there, just for them.

This is a long-term role, and we ask volunteers to commit to at least two years to help build a strong, stable relationship.

We are currently prioritising and seeking applications from volunteers based in the Croydon or Kent area where we have a greater need for volunteers to support childen and young people.

Young people in care often face instability and frequent change. Having a consistent adult who listens, encourages and simply spends time with them can be life changing.

Why do we need your help?

Food banks provide three-day emergency food parcels for people in crisis, working in partnership with organisations across the community. Drivers play a fundamental role in the running of the food bank, collecting food donations from a variety of locations such as supermarkets or churches across the local area as well as distributing the sorted donations from the warehouse to the local food bank centres. You will be given all the required training and provided with ongoing support and development opportunities. You will also have a main contact at the food bank throughout your time volunteering with us.

What will you be doing?

• Collecting food donations from collection points such as supermarkets, schools and churches within Brent

• Coordinating with the warehouse manager and supermarket community champions

• Delivering the food donations to the warehouse, located in Willesden

• Transporting sorted food from the warehouse across two food banks within Brent

• Regular loading and unloading of vehicles, helping your driver buddy

• Regular driving across the local area

The skills you need:

• Clean and current driving licence

• Physically strong and capable of carrying heavy boxes of canned foods

• Experienced and confident driver, you will be driving a small van around Brent

• Adaptable and flexible, sometimes we need to change your driving route or times

• Personable and committed, you will be the representatives of Brent Foodbank amongst our supermarket community

• You will need to follow the driving policy of the food bank

• You should enjoy being part of a volunteer team

• Have an eye for detail and be able to solve problems

• If you can’t drive but enjoy being out on the road, you can also be a driver buddy!

You will be given all the required training and provided with ongoing support and development opportunities. You will also have a main contact at the food bank throughout your time volunteering with us.

Volunteers needed - Misogyny-Free Schools (MFS)
Help shape a new, parent-powered movement for positive change in primary schools

MFS supports parents/carers and schools to take early, constructive action to prevent harmful gender norms and misogyny, by building parent networks, supporting school engagement, creating practical resources, and amplifying real stories of change. 

We’re looking for 4 volunteers to help shape and grow the movement from the ground up. See the roles below.

1: Community & Communications Lead

Purpose of role: You will create and guide a Whatsapp community for parents, raise the profile and manage MFS’s voice online through storytelling and social media
Skills/experience helpful: Communications, campaigns, community organising, digital engagement, social media including analytics and metrics, compelling writing, storytelling, content creation, canva (or other tools)
What you’ll do: Build and moderate the parent WhatsApp community, develop and deliver communications strategy, shape narrative, tone, voice and messaging, help grow an engaged parent network

2: Web & Digital Builder (short term)

Purpose of role: You will co-design and build the MFS website including the parent and school resource hub
Skills/experience helpful: Web design, no-code platforms (e.g. Squarespace/Wix), UX, digital project setup, website performance tracking, knowledge of GDPR and data protection regulations
What you’ll do: Create an impactful and easily navigable website for parents and schools, organise information and link resources, support the digital infrastructure of the campaign, train up team members to add and adapt content

3: Education Specialist

Purpose of role: You will create tools and support the MFS community on engagement with schools and LEAs
Skills/experience helpful: Education, safeguarding, creating tools, curriculum, school engagement, education policy, experience with LEAs, trusts, ofsted etc
What you’ll do: Identify and curate age-appropriate resources, shape school-facing content, support parents outreach to primary schools, ensure approaches are constructive, supportive and practical

4: Research & Policy

Purpose of role: You will build our evidence base, translate research and policy into accessible insights and actions, position MFS as a credible, evidence-led voice
Skills/experience helpful: Equality, safeguarding, wellbeing, or education policy, ability to synthesize and translate complex research and policy into accessible language
What you’ll do: Build and maintain MFS evidence base, track key UK research and policy developments and produce accessible briefings, inform campaign and strategy with evidence and policy insight

Time commitment: Flexible and realistic (anything upwards of 2 hours / week)

Location: Fully remote (great if we can occasionally meet in person)

Type: Voluntary / unpaid

Style: Collaborative, supportive, values-driven

You: A big fan of equality and human rights, self-motivated, organised, creative and solution-oriented

Art plays a valuable role in mental wellbeing with research showing that crafting, regardless of the medium you use can boost your mood, self-confidence and reduce stress overall. Taking part in art-based activities increases our resilience and engages us in the here and now. You will be supporting people to express their emotions, provide a time for people to relax and feel proud of their final art products!

What you will be doing

• To prepare arts and craft sessions, involving individuals in the planning process where possible
• Inspire and motivate individuals to develop their arts and craft skills, assisting them in the creation of their projects and supporting them to brainstorm and use their own initiative
• Encourage individuals to continue independent activities

The skills you need

• Experience of arts and/or crafts either in a professional, educational, or personal level
• Able to collaborate with individuals to plan an art group session and facilitate confidently
• A calm and patient manner
• Ability to provide a trusting, open, kind-hearted atmosphere that encourages learning and participation
• An effective communicator with a patient and sympathetic nature
