About Jak’s World

Jak’s World is a UK-based mental health charity working to prevent suicide in the community. We honour the legacy of Jakub Halani — a creative, kind, and deeply loved teenager — by ensuring that no young person feels alone, hopeless, or without a future.

Our mission is to prevent suicide by fostering hope, connection, and resilience-ensuring that no one faces their darkest moments alone.

We do this by:

· Promoting mental health awareness through creative community engagement, programmes and events.

· Providing suicide prevention resources and support, including Suicide First Aid Training

· Providing positive experiences and hopeful messaging at schools, festivals, and online.

· Empowering people to talk, share, and connect through art, music, and peer-led initiatives.

Becoming a trustee

As a Trustee of Jak’s World, you will play a vital role in shaping our direction, safeguarding our mission, and supporting our passionate team.

Our Trustees provide governance and strategic leadership, ensure accountability, and help Jak’s World grow its reach, credibility, and impact.

We are especially keen to hear from prospective trustees with experience in the following areas;

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to shaping Jak’s World’s long-term vision, values, and strategy.
• Ensure good governance, financial oversight, and legal compliance.

Respond is seeking a qualified accountant to join the Board of Trustees as honorary Treasurer.

About the Respond Treasurer role

This is an exciting opportunity to volunteer in a vital governance role at Respond: the Treasurer maintains an overview of the charity’s financial affairs, ensuring effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are in place.

As a member of the Board of Trustees, the Treasurer also supports good governance, helping set the strategic direction of the charity for the years to come.

The role would suit a qualified accountant with some knowledge of charity accounting and the ability to communicate financial information to the wider board in a clear and accessible way. 

With a passionate Board of Trustees and a committed staff team, you’ll join an organisation focused on making a real difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities and autistic people who have experienced abuse, violence or trauma.

About Respond

Respond is a national charity supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic people who have experienced abuse, violence or trauma. Respond offers psychotherapy and advocacy support and provides specialist trauma informed training for services.

Through specialist advocacy and therapeutic support, we support people to navigate complex systems such as criminal justice, social services and housing, and to cope with the impact of trauma, build healthy relationships and move forward with their lives.

If you are well versed in social media, have experience or a passion for communicating with wide audiences across pretty much all social media platforms, this is a role for you.

Living Reasons, at the core of what we want to achieve, doesn't just value experience from employment but from personal experience and based on you as a person, everything else comes from the relationships built and trust given to each other and we want to learn from you, just as much as you will learn from us.

You will work with the volunteers and trustees to create engaging content that focuses on the current needs of the charity and in the first 3-6 months will be very much focused and 2 areas - fundraising and communicating the charity message and gaining support for the charity as we establish ourselves. We want to do things differently, so there are no boundaries other than legal requirements and ensuring we stick to the charity values, which, as you will see, are very much about making change and doing things differently.

Our partner is works to reduce poverty in Zambia by helping vulnerable children and young people access education, develop skills, and build better future - through training, health education, and community initiatives.

Amid a period of significant change, the charity is moving to a locally led delivery model, with the UK focusing on fundraising, governance, and reporting. They seek a qualified accountant with strategic financial management experience, charity accounting knowledge, and ideally some international development insight. The Treasurer will provide hands-on financial oversight, ensure robust controls, and maintain compliance.

The role includes chairing a Finance & Operations Sub-Committee, guiding the Board on financial matters, and working with trustees, outsourced providers, and the team in Zambia.

The Board meets quarterly (remotely) for up to three hours, with the Sub-Committee meeting beforehand. The estimated time commitment required is 4 hours per week, flexibly.

About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Finance Volunteer for our Liverpool, Halton and Knowsley Group. As a Finance Volunteer, you would be joining a coordinating team of volunteers to plan and deliver services and activities to support people locally.

You will maintain and approve income and expenditure records and explain financial information clearly to other group members. You would ensure our financial requirements and policies are followed, and that money is spent in a cost effective manner.

About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be comfortable with figures, preferably with an accounting or business background. You will live in the immediate area of the Group, allowing you to meet with other volunteers from the Group.
