Canopi Foundation is seeking 3 new Trustees to join their Board - Use your expertise to create positive social impact both locally and globally as a Trustee of Canopi Foundation.

What will you be doing?

As a Trustee of Canopi Foundation, you’ll help provide strategic direction, ensure good governance, and support financial oversight. Key responsibilities include:

• Governance & Leadership: Ensure legal and regulatory compliance, uphold the charity’s mission and values, contribute to Board decisions, and promote integrity and transparency.
• Strategy & Planning: Shape and monitor strategic plans, assess risks and opportunities, and stay informed on sector trends.
• Financial Stewardship: Approve budgets and reports, oversee resource management and risk, and support income generation and fundraising initiatives.

Skills and qualifications:

We are seeking Trustees with the following skills / experience to take lead oversight for these areas:

• Social Sector Experience: someone with a solid understanding of the charity and third sector, and strong experience in strategy and leadership. You’ll offer insights that help us respond to sector challenges and increase our impact
• Fundraising and Income Generation: someone with a background in fundraising and income generation to support the team with ideas, insight, and a fresh perspective on our income strategy
• Legal (Charity Law and Regulation): someone with legal expertise - especially in charity law and regulation - to guide the Board in making sound and compliant decisions

As part of our longer-term succession planning, we would welcome interest from candidates who may be open to taking on additional Board leadership responsibilities in the future, eg Chair or Committee roles.

All activities will be designed to be inclusive, allowing a wide range of people the opportunity to engage in hands-on conservation work and gain appreciation of the natural world in their local area. In summary: help us to introduce, restore and maintain hedgerows in London’s green belt, in cooperation with Friends-of groups and community-level volunteers. 

The role of the Hedgerow Heroes Coordinator will be to: 

• Help research new project opportunities (planting sites, partners etc)
• Work in a friendly team to help co-ordinate the planting / restoration of hedgerows all over London
• Administration and organisation of people and teams to meet planting session requirements 
• Work alongside more experienced volunteers to learn project management skills to help you in your future career
• As you continue to volunteer with CPRE you're free to find the perfect role that suits your needs - we have lots of volunteer work available in fundraising, campaigning, and project management.

Kingston Mental Health Carers’ Forum is a small but active charity that represents unpaid mental health carers (ie Family, Friends) in the Royal Borough of Kingston. Local statutory services recognize our collective voice and campaigning role and actively engage us in policy making and service development.

Our current team - all volunteers - includes people with professional skills and lived experience of being mental health carers. Because of this we understand the issues facing carers, for them personally and their loved ones. We provide 1:1 advice and guidance, and encourage self-empowerment.

We hold a monthly support group and keep members up to date on current mental health provision. We believe that supporting carers’ wellbeing will also help their loved ones, aiming for the best possible mental health.

We want to grow our membership and develop our services. As a volunteer with the relevant professional skills, lived experience and a strong motivation to serve our local community, you can contribute to shaping the future direction of KMHCF.

As we have no paid staff, we are particularly keen to hear from those who can also offer to take hands-on responsibility for moving the development of our service forward. This might indicate an applicant who offers professional skills, but is now retired and would like to serve the community.

What are we looking for?

Do you have experience in any of the following?

• Care Sector Financial Experience to join our Board and Finance Committee
• Health and Social Care Experience (outside Avenues) to join our Board and one committee (to be decided).
• People management and organisational development to join our Board and the People, Culture and Reward Committee
• Risk Management (specialising in a quality, compliance and regulatory environment) to join our Board and our Audit and Risk Committee.

The following characteristics, knowledge and experiences (or willingness to learn) would be helpful in being a trustee:

• a high level of understanding and interest in the charity and its work a commitment to the values and principles of the charity; 
• strong business and financial acumen; 
• experience of committee work; 
• good interpersonal and communication skills; 
• sound, independent judgement, courage, common sense and diplomacy; 
• an interest in politics and current issues in social care clear understanding, and acceptance, of the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of trustees; knowledge of charity governance; 
• enough time and commitment to fulfil the role ability to listen to and welcome other opinions and experiences; 
• flexibility in thinking; a desire to implement the highest standards of governance.

What difference will you make?

Trustees are responsible for providing appropriate oversight, governance and leadership to the charity in the pursuit of its strategies to fulfil its charitable purposes. 

A trustee’s main duties under charity law are to: 

• ensure the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit;
• comply with the charity’s governing document and the law; 
• act in the charity’s best interests; manage the charity’s resources responsibly; 
• act with reasonable care and skill; and ensure the charity is accountable.

• A full CV (or video application) including the names and addresses of two referees. Referees will not be approached until the final stages and not without prior permission from candidates.
• Complete a covering letter (or send a video if you prefer) of no more than 2 sides of A4 which answers the following questions: What motivates you to join our Board and why will you be successful? How do your skills and experience match what we are looking for? What will you bring of yourself, your life experience and your perspective to the Board? As a Board Member, how will you apply the Avenues values (Respect, Integrity, pride and Excellence) when helping us make decisions?

We appreciate any volunteering help that you can offer YBTC and want to make sure that our

volunteers have a positive experience with us. We pledge to support you as much as we can.

We want to ensure that volunteering with us does not feel too daunting, so the exact tasks might

vary depending on your circumstances. However, some typical tasks may include:

· Asking people you know who might be willing to have a collection box in their business

· Approaching local businesses to display the boxes and collect loose change from their customers

· Building and maintaining relationships with your box holders to inspire loyalty and encourage people to continue giving year after year

· Collecting the boxes in your area as and when required and taking to your YBTC contact

Founded in 2003 and originally named Andrea’s Gift and later Brain Tumour Research and Support

Across Yorkshire, Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity (YBTC) is Yorkshire and Humber’s leading

brain tumour charity. Offering practical, financial and emotional support to both adult and child

brain tumour patients, together with their families.

We fund brain tumour research in Yorkshire; we hope this research, dedicated to identifying new

approaches to the discovery and treatment of brain tumours, will improve outcomes for patients.

At YBTC we are a small team who are growing to meet the needs of those affected by a brain

tumour in Yorkshire. Around 15 new cases of primary brain tumour are diagnosed in the region

every week.
