Would you like to make a difference to the life of a veteran living with sight loss?
We have veteran's living across the Thirsk area who would welcome a volunteer to visit them at home for a couple of hours, on a weekly or fortnightly basis for companionship and chat to reduce their social isolation.
By popping by once a week or fortnight to see a veteran in their area, home visitors are a friendly face that can make all the difference to our veterans. A visit could be a simple chat and a cup of tea, helping with odd jobs around the home that can otherwise be a struggle for our veterans to complete or getting out and about in the local area.
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veteran’s home.
We will support you with training and an induction, out of pocket expenses and ongoing support so that you can get as much out of your volunteering with us.

About The Cultural Ambassadors Project
Point of Growth is launching The Cultural Ambassadors, a 9-month community project in Greater Manchester beginning September 2025. Our mission is to support newcomers and migrants settling in the UK by co-creating a culturally informed guidebook, running safe conversational and information sessions, and building peer networks. The project is centred in Oldham, Rochdale and Ashton-under-Lyne (Greater Manchester), with participants drawn from these areas. Volunteers and childcare supporters will play a vital role in making sessions accessible, welcoming, and safe.
Location: Greater Manchester (venues in Oldham / Rochdale / Ashton) — specific session venues will be shared in advance
Time Commitment:
Typically 1–2 days per month (or 3–5 hours per session). Flexibility is built in.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist with set-up, registration, and welcoming participants
- Help facilitate group conversation, ice-breakers, or small group breakout sessions
- Support digital or hybrid participants (e.g. help with online forms, Zoom links)
- Distribute materials, refreshments, and cleaning up
- Provide informal signposting or peer support during breaks
- Work under supervision and follow safeguarding and inclusion policies

ATSF is looking to recruit two new members to its board of trustees - one with educational experience and the second a more general trustee- to help shape its future and support education in Greater London.
Organisation background
The Foundation is an unincorporated registered charity that is currently going through a period of transition. It has existed in different forms for more than three centuries. The Foundation was established to teach practical and academic skills to equip “poor boys for trades or university”. Until recently it fulfilled its educational charitable objective by providing land, buildings and grants to a school in Oval. Following the closure and sale of that school in 2023, the Trustees are entering an exciting new phase in the Foundation’s story. They are reviewing how to deliver the best educational outcomes for young people in the area of benefit, Greater London, and are looking to work with local schools, partners and stakeholders to achieve this.
Required skills and experience
Educational Trustee – an applicant should have an understanding of local educational needs -either in the area of benefit or within specific areas of Greater London. They should have experience of working with stakeholders involved in education and a willingness to liaise with those stakeholders, potential grantee schools and other partners. The Trustees want to provide support where it will be most effective and a background in educational funding would be an advantage as would a willingness to develop a collaborative relationship with new grantee schools.
General Trustee
A successful applicant will play an important role in overseeing our activities and in ensuring we continue to pursue our objectives effectively and responsibly. Ideally an applicant should have experience with grant making or other charitable organisations and with helping formulate important strategic decisions to provide long term educational benefit.

Role requirements
Trustees are appointed for an initial term of four years. They are expected to attend trustee meetings which are currently held every two to three months, sometimes online and sometimes in person in London - most commonly online at 4pm.

The difference you will make to cats and people
As a trap, neuter and return (TNR) lead volunteer you will make a vital contribution to maintaining a healthy population of feral and community cats and will help alleviate cat welfare and community problems caused by uncontrolled cat populations. You will lead a team of TNR volunteers in your local area, who in turn will help reduce the number of unwanted cats.

Life in a rescue environment is never ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Our cat adoption team leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. Our County Representatives (CR) will support our Fundraising Team by being the public face of Combat Stress in their local county, and will help build support from individuals and groups by raising awareness and funds. Income generation is key to our continued success and the support of volunteers enables us to raise more funds to support former servicemen and women, so that when a veteran is having a tough time, we’re there to help tackle the past and to help them take on the future.
Hours:The role is flexible. You can give as much or as little time as you are able. However, we do ask you ideally commit enough time to build meaningful awareness and support on your base.
