Our work spans direct financial assistance, specialist advice, and community‑based programmes, and we continue to deepen our understanding of what truly helps households build resilience. This combination of practical support and system‑level insight places us in a unique and important position within the sector.
The Trust has evolved significantly over recent years. We now operate with a strengthened in‑house team, a clear strategic direction, and a growing reputation as both a funder and an influencer in the national conversation on fuel poverty.
THE ROLE
As we prepare for our next strategic phase from 2026 where we will continue to focus on both immediate assistance and long‑term systemic change, we are seeking a Deputy Chair and two trustees to join our Board. We’re particularly interested in strategic thinkers with non-executive experience who bring strong relationship building skills and a proven track record of leadership within their fields from: the energy sector, technology sector, those with deep understanding of fuel poverty/poverty, and income generation/fundraising.
We are looking for people with sound judgement, emotional intelligence, and a collaborative, inclusive approach who recognise the dignity of the people we serve and the importance of working in partnership to achieve lasting change.

Blesma is currently looking for a committed, energetic and innovative Trustee with experience in Media or Marketing to join the Board of Trustees in 2026 and help set the strategic direction for our Association. Trustees have independent control over, and legal responsibility for, a charity’s management and administration. They are required to:
1. Ensure the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
2. Comply with the charity’s governing document and the law
3. Act in the charity’s best interests
4. Manage the charity’s resources responsibly
5. Act with reasonable care and skill
6. Ensure the charity is accountable
Blesma’s rules state that the Board should consist of at least 50% Member trustees, in order to ensure that Members’ experiences and views inform their vital work.
Trustees are expected to attend four Boards, a Board awayday and our Annual General Meeting each year. The position is voluntary, although expenses are paid.

We are seeking a committed and strategic Chair of Trustees to lead our excellent Board of Trustees and ensure our Child Contact Centre remains safe, sustainable and child-centred.
Our centre provides a safe, friendly and neutral space where children from separated families can spend time with the non-resident parent and, in some cases, grandparents.
About the Role
The Chair will:
- Lead and develop an effective Board of Trustees
- Ensure safeguarding and child welfare remain paramount
- Provide strategic oversight
- Support and work with the Centre Co-ordinator without micromanaging
We are looking for someone with:
- Strong leadership skills
- Emotional intelligence
- Sound judgement and integrity
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to handle complaints or reputational issues
- A calm disposition during a possible crisis
- The ability to act as an ambassador for the centre within the local community
Ideally, we feel this role would suit a retired person, possibly with a background in working with children in some capacity or with knowledge of child welfare. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to children and families in our community.
Time Commitment
Board meetings are held quarterly, plus an AGM usually held in July.
There is also an expectation to attend fundraising events and make occasional visits to the centre.

We are looking for a volunteer to support our ESOL classes on Tuesdays (10:45am–4:45pm) and Wednesdays (10:30am–1:30pm). You can volunteer for one of the days or help cover both sessions. Your support would make a real difference in helping learners build their English skills and confidence, and volunteers are a valued part of our classes.
How will I be ending homelessness?
Our Learning and Skills offer focuses on 5 key areas that we believe will help members to leave homelessness for good. These are English, finance, digital inclusion, employment and enterprise and business. As a Learning and Skills Assistant, you will be supporting our tutors and Learning and Skills Mentors to deliver a package of learning to meet outcomes identified by Lead Workers in members progression plans.
Tasks you will support with include:
· Planning
o Sharing any thoughts and ideas you have as part of the planning for a session
o Support with preparing resources for the session/setting up/tidying up any equipment and materials
· Delivery
o Creating a safe, welcome and non-judgemental learning space
o With direction from the tutor/Learning and Skills Mentor, supporting members within the group to increase both their knowledge and confidence on how that learning can be applied to support them in managing a home
o Supporting tutors and mentors with managing the group, and feeding back any concerns you have
You will work closely with the tutor/ mentor who will understand the needs and learning outcomes required for the session.
To be successful in this role we are looking for someone who:
· Is interested in the above subjects. Some subject knowledge would be beneficial, but the session will be led by the tutor/mentor
· Has the skills and confidence to support learners effectively, understand different learning needs and making individuals feel comfortable in the learning space
· Is empathetic and compassionate to the needs of those experiencing homelessness
· Is able to communicate well with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds including those who have a range of needs (for example mental health and substance misuse) and who may have English as a second language.
· Is a good listener and patient
· Understands the importance of keeping an individual’s personal information secure and private and working within the boundaries of the role to keep everyone safe
· Is passionate about standing with Crisis and our members to end homelessness.
If you have experience learning a second or third language, this can be particularly helpful in supporting our learners and understanding the challenges they may face. There may also be opportunities to develop your own presentation and facilitation skills, including leading or presenting parts of a session if this is something you would like to try.
