We believe that volunteering should not leave you out of pocket so reasonable transport costs are paid if you wish. Also lunch if you are volunteering for over a 5 hour shift.

We have volunteer vacancies to suit you, it might be meeting and greeting on the till and taking in donations? We need Merchandiser, Book volunteers, Clothing and homeware volunteers to treasure hunt through our many donations. 

Do you have an interest in stamps or coins? Vinyl? Vintage? you really dont need to be an expert, just have an interest.

if you have a spare few hours we would love to hear from you. Volunteering with Oxfam can help you gain new experiences, meet new people and help to end poverty.

Please note this is an unpaid volunteer role but out of pocket expenses like reasonable travel cost are paid and lunch will be paid for if volunteering over 5 hours.

Role Description

We’re looking for friendly and enthusiastic Retail Shop Volunteers to join our Curated by Cransley store in Kettering. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain retail experience, meet new people, and contribute to a cause that truly matters. As a volunteer, you’ll play an important role in creating a positive shopping experience while helping to generate income that supports local hospice care.

Shop Duties

• Welcoming customers
• Accepting donated goods from customers
• Obtaining Gift Aid support from customers donating goods
• Using the till and handling money in accordance with set procedures.
• Sorting and hanging of donated stock
• Steaming of clothes (after appropriate training)
• Keeping all areas clean, tidy and clear
• Taking rubbish to bins in close vicinity
• Helping with shop displays

About Our Charity Shops in Chesham and Burnham

The shop is part of the South Buckinghamshire branch and plays an essential role in raising the profile of the RSPCA in our local community, as well as funds so that we can continue our vital animal welfare work. Our shops sell a mixture of donated items, including clothes, books, bric-a-brac and collectables, and a selection of new items. We require help on the shop floor and in our stock room or you could volunteer to do a mixture of both.

Volunteer Charity Shop Assistant responsibilities

• Helping customers in the shop find what they need.
• Accepting donations of items and money from the public.
• Processing sales through the till and card machine, including Gift Aid. We provide full training but if you prefer not to use the till there are other tasks you can get involved with instead.
• Sorting through donated items to determine what we can sell.
• Preparing donated items for sale by steaming and hanging items.
• Merchandising stock on the shop floor.
• Creating attractive shop window displays.

What we are looking for in a volunteer Charity Shop Assistant

• Friendly volunteers who are confident talking to people.
• Retail experience would be ideal but is not necessary as full training will be given.
• We are ideally aiming for someone who is flexible and can offer an ongoing commitment predominately 8 hours or more per week, help during weekdays is particularly welcome.
• Good communication and numeracy skills.
• Using the till is not essential, as you can help with other tasks.
• You will need to be aged 16 or over.
• Our induction is online and you will need basic IT skills and access to a computer. However, if you are unable to do this you may ask a friend to help you or we can arrange a paper-based induction instead.

This is based at our shop at 3a Northgate Centre (behind McDonalds), Heckmondwike WF16 9RL.

Role Purpose:

To assist our charity shop team(s) in raising the essential funds which allow us to continue supporting local children and their families.

Tasks & activities:

Supporting the day-to-day running of our charity shop, in which some of the activities may include:

• Handling and sorting donations
• Setting up attractive displays on the shop floor

Personal qualities & experience:

Previous experience of working in retail is useful, but not essential as full training will be provided.

Our Warehouse is at the very heart of the Woodgreen Retail operation and ensures all our shops have stock in the right place, at the right time.

The income from our shops, directly supports pets and their people and we would love you to join our friendly volunteering team, as a Warehouse Volunteer.

What better way to spend your spare time, supporting us and helping us to raise money through our shops and the sale of our donated items.

What will I be doing?

We can offer a wide range of roles within our warehouse to suit all sorts of interests, skills and abilities;

• Maybe you are interested in fashion and can help with sorting our clothing donations?
• Maybe you love books, or homewares and can help sort these for our shops?
• We often require PAT testers for our donated electrical items; (we give free PAT test training)?
• Do you love music? We need people to check and sort our CDs, Vinyl and DVDs.
• Are you interested in antique and collectable items? We often get interesting items donated to us which we need to research and value.  These are then passed to our Ebay team to raise more money for Woodgreen.

If none of this sounds exciting you could also prepare packages of stock for our shops, sort bags of textiles for recycling and help load our vans for shop deliveries. Some heavy lifting may be required but assistance will always be available.

Shop volunteering helps fight the housing emergency by raising vital funds that enable Shelter to provide advice and support for people who are experiencing bad housing and homelessness, as well as powering us to campaign for change.
