Abuse volunteer roles

We are looking for women who hold intersectional feminist values and principles and who are passionate about the mission and values of SARA. We are particularly looking for Trustees who have relevant qualifications and/or experience in the following areas: 

 - Human resources and personnel management, including a knowledge of employment legislation.  

- Financial management, planning and budgeting.  

- Secretarial, supporting with minuting, scheduling board meetings and coordinating action plans.

We started as a feminist collective in 2010 growing into Trafford Rape Crisis and then becoming TRC Sexual Abuse & Rape Support Greater Manchester, supporting women all over Greater Manchester.

SARA (launched 2026) evolved from that vision, thanks to all the women and supporters who came before us. Our founders understood that sexual violence doesn’t happen in isolation. It intersects with race, disability, poverty, sexuality and gender identity. So, our support must reflect this reality.

We exist to support survivors of sexual violence through trauma-informed care, advocacy, and community connection. 

We’re a feminist organisation providing counselling, helpline support, Independent Sexual Violence Advocacy (ISVA), community support and digital resources for women affected by gender-based violence. We believe in putting people at the centre of our care, meeting them where they are.

While we dream of systemic change, our primary focus is providing the specialist support survivors need right now – from early support to long-term healing, from practical advocacy to building supportive communities.

• To prepare arts and craft sessions, involving individuals in the planning process where possible
• Inspire and motivate individuals to develop their arts and craft skills, assisting them in the creation of their projects and supporting them to brainstorm and use their own initiative
• Encourage individuals to continue independent activities

• Experience of arts and/or crafts either in a professional, educational, or personal level
• Able to collaborate with individuals to plan an art group session and facilitate confidently

Position: Board of Director - Treasurer (Unpaid Volunteer Role)

Reports to: Board Chairperson

• Oversee all financial matters including budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting.

Are you looking to get involved in the local community or perhaps have an interest in mental health? Volunteering in our mental health services is a rewarding and varied opportunity for someone who is interested in working in this field. You will support by offering a listening ear and will offer individuals tailored mental health support, alongside our team of trained workers. We are looking for a volunteer to facilitate a Men’s group. The group provides a safe, welcoming place for people to meet, share experiences and support each other’s growth. We’d love to find a resident in Haringey, but this is not essential for the role.

We’re seeking friendly, reliable individuals aged 18 or over who want to make a

difference in their community. No prior experience is needed, as we provide

• Encourage individuals to participate in all aspects of the planning and attendance

Volunteer your time at Hestia to make our gardens a beautiful place for our service users to enjoy all year through! Are you green fingered and have a passion for gardens and outdoor spaces?

At Hestia we have gardens and outdoor spaces which require your support to bring these back to life by keeping them maintained. We are recruiting for volunteers to motivate and inspire staff and people living in our services to get involved in gardening.

We work with people who need support with their mental health across London and the South East. Our support ranges from registered accommodation services for people with severe mental health conditions to drop-in community and crisis services.

In the last year, 9,499 adults accessed Hestia’s mental health support.

We help people to feel safe, develop hope for a better future, and achieve their personal goals. These goals may include rebuilding relationships with family members and friends or connecting more with their local community.

What you will be doing

• Inspire and motivate staff and people in the services to get involved in maintaining and growing the garden
• To provide tips on how to maintain and grow the garden - sowing seeds, planting bulbs, taking cuttings
• Provide basic maintenance such as cutting the grass, emptying bins, managing weed control and leaf raking
• Lead in planting and nurturing new trees, flowers, and various plants
• Provide best practice on how to use the correct gardening tools
• Inspire people in our services and staff to maintain a clean garden
• Advise staff on the costs of plants and garden necessities

• To support people who are not confident with spoken English to develop these skills through conversational English sessions through 1:1 or in small groups.

• To keep records of conversations and update the support worker on progress of sessions.

About South Tyneside Adult Recovery Services (STARS)

South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service is the alcohol and drug service in South Tyneside for adults.

South Tyneside Adult Recovery Service is open Monday to Friday 9.00 am - 4.45 pm.

About the role:

• Provide a welcoming meet and greet service to people attending STARS 

• Answer internal phone calls

• Replenish leaflets / resources 

• Create and maintain displays in the waiting area / rooms 

• Copying / printing resources for colleagues

About you:

Due to the location of the printer, applicants will need to be able to walk up and down a flight of stairs to access the printer/copier.

The service is open 9am – 5pm so the role would take place during these hours. 

Confident IT skills as there are mandatory training modules to complete online. 

Applicants must have excellent verbal communication skills, be professional, able to maintain professional boundaries and adhere to Waythrough policies.

Experience of volunteering / working in an admin / reception / customer service role would be desirable.

To have a caring, patient and empathetic nature.

Ability to remain calm and focused in a busy environment.

Are you a fluent Farsi speaker with a passion for helping others? We are seeking dedicated volunteers to assist women in improving their English language skills. Improving someone’s understanding and spoken English language, will allow individuals to communicate and connect with people in their local community, widen their network of friendships and relationships, and provide people opportunity to improve their employability skills. 

We are looking for a face-to-face volunteer for a minimum of 1 hour per week who is available between hours 11am – 2.30pm Monday-Friday!

What you will be doing

• To support individuals who are not confident with spoken English to develop their reading, writing and conversational skills through one-to-one sessions.
• Agree a mutual agreeable time and frequency that works for both parties
• Engage in conversation, allowing the person to feel supported and comfortable to practice speaking English Preparing and delivering sessions independently including setting work and assessing
• To keep records of conversations and update the support worker on progress of sessions.

Event: 2026 Great North Run 

Location: Newcastle

Time commitment: 13th September - Half a day 

What we're looking for

We need enthusiastic and outgoing volunteers who can cheer as loudly as possible for our runners as they go past our cheer point. Every year thousands of people join Team NSPCC to take on a challenge and raise money to help protect children and prevent abuse. Together with other cheerers, you'll make a huge difference to how our  runners feel – helping them to complete a challenge they've spent months preparing for.

What you'll do

You'll be joining other lively and enthusiastic cheerers at our NSPCC cheer point along the route – be ready for cheering, clapping, whooping or even singing. It's a team effort, so you would also help with setting up the cheer point, giving out t-shirts and cheering materials, making sure the area is kept tidy and helping with packing down.

We'll be in touch to arrange with you what time to arrive, where to meet and what to expect. You don't have to be an official cheerer to come along and support team NSPCC. So if you can't make the full-time or to our cheer point, we'd still love to see there, just look up the event time and come along.

What you'll get

Volunteering at our events is a great way to experience the fantastic atmosphere of event days, without the training! The atmosphere at our cheer point is amazing, and we'll provide you with cheering materials and an NSPCC t-shirt so all you have to bring is your enthusiasm.

You'll be accompanied by NSPCC staff to support you and answer any questions you may have. Travel expenses will be covered up to the value of £5.00.

Who's right for the role?

You don't need any prior experience, just a sense of fun, team spirit and enthusiasm. It's important that you're able to spend a few hours outside, spending lots of this time cheering and clapping. You'll also need to stand for a few hours so, if you think this would be difficult, we'd advise bringing along a travel chair. If you are a wheelchair user, please let us know and we can help to identify a suitably accessible cheering point for you.

You'll need to feel comfortable if members of the public ask you about your volunteering role and will simply need to direct them to a member of staff if they have any questions about the NSPCC. We need volunteers with a warm and friendly manner, as the NSPCC is 90 per cent funded by public donations so the impression people have of us is incredibly important.
