Non-Executive Director (Board member)
Positive Money is a leading international think tank and campaign organisation working to redesign our economic system for social justice and a liveable planet. We publish research, advocate for our proposals with politicians, policymakers, and the press, collaborate with civil society, and mobilise our community of supporters with digital campaigns. We work across six key areas: racial economic justice, finance and democracy, green finance, the future of money, housing, and macroeconomics.
We are seeking up to 4 new Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to join the board of Positive Money UK. Our board is a non-executive body responsible for the organisation’s vision, mission, strategic direction, finances and governance. These positions are voluntary and unremunerated. Our board meets four times per year at our office in Vauxhall, and NEDs also support the organisation via membership of occasional working groups, or in reviewing policies or other documents.
We are looking for people who will bring strategic insight and either have, or wish to develop, a good understanding of governance. At a time when the funding landscape for our sector is volatile, we are also seeking people who can bring insight, experience or new connections to our fundraising efforts. We are also seeking a candidate with a strong finance background to take over from our current Non-Executive Finance Director, who will be retiring at the end of his term by the end of 2027. We are not seeking all these attributes in each candidate, and recognise that different candidates will bring different strengths and skillsets. See our application pack (link below) for full details
We are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility and aim to dismantle oppression in all areas of our work. If you have any questions or considerations you would like us to accommodate in the recruitment process, please contact us.
Contract: Voluntary unremunerated position
Time commitment: Attendance at four board meetings annually, including at least three in person. NEDs may also be asked to review policies, proposals or other documents for the organisation or serve on occasional working groups. NEDs generally spend 3-5 hours per month on Board work.
Deadline: Closing date for applications is 9am Mon 7th Sept with interviews held on Wed 16th Sept
There will also be an open webinar on Wed 26th August at 6pm at which some current board members and Co-ED’s at Positive Money will speak a little more about the organisation and the role, and take questions.
Start Date: We aim to appoint new NEDs formally at our Dec board meeting. We may also invite successful candidates to attend some upcoming strategy development sessions this autumn, see application pack for dates and further details.
How to apply: Please visit our website vacancies page to view a full application pack and details of how to apply.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

WORKING ARRANGEMENT: Flexible / Hybrid / London
COMMITMENT: Flexible, with regular involvement expected
TYPE: Volunteer – Unpaid
CLOSING DATE: Friday 28th August 2026, before 12pm
Help Build Something Different. Help Build Urban Youth.
London is moving faster than ever. But for too many young people, the doors are locked.
Urban Youth is a new, volunteer-powered youth work charity built around a simple idea:
Youth work should go where young people are.
We don't want to sit in static buildings waiting for young people to find us.
We want to drop into the heart of the city – empty shops, unused spaces, concrete cages, community centres, public spaces and street-side studios – and create opportunities where young people can connect, create, learn, grow and belong.
And we are looking for people who want to help us make it happen.
THE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for passionate, capable and community-minded volunteers to join the Urban Youth Charity Leadership Team and help us establish, grow and run Urban Youth across Inner London.
This is an opportunity to play a genuine leadership role in an ambitious new youth work charity.
You don't need to have worked in the charity sector before.
You might be a youth worker, community organiser, entrepreneur, creative professional, project manager, fundraiser, educator, marketer, designer, finance professional, HR specialist, safeguarding professional, operations expert, partnership builder – or simply someone with the drive, experience and ideas to help build something extraordinary.
What matters most is your commitment to young people, your willingness to get stuck in, and your belief that opportunity should not depend on which postcode you live in.
WHAT YOU'LL HELP US DO
As part of the Charity Leadership Team, you'll help shape Urban Youth from the ground up.
Depending on your experience and interests, you could contribute to:
Developing Urban Youth's strategy, vision and operating model.
Helping establish our volunteer-powered delivery model.
Developing and launching pop-up youth work sessions across Inner London.
Identifying and developing relationships with community organisations and local partners.
Finding and securing free or low-cost spaces for youth work.
Building partnerships with businesses, charities, community groups and local organisations.
Developing fundraising and income-generation opportunities.
Supporting grant applications, sponsorship and community fundraising.
Helping recruit, welcome, train and support volunteers.
Developing youth work programmes, projects, workshops and activities.
Supporting safeguarding, risk management and good governance.
Developing our policies, procedures and operational systems.
Helping establish strong monitoring, evaluation and impact measurement.
Supporting communications, marketing, social media and campaigns.
Helping Urban Youth build a strong public profile across London.
Representing Urban Youth at meetings, events and partnership opportunities.
Identifying opportunities to make better use of empty, unused or underused spaces.
Bringing your own professional skills, knowledge, networks and ideas to the table.
You won't just be advising from the sidelines.
We want people who want to build.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for people who are:
Passionate about young people and their potential.
Positive, energetic and solutions-focused.
Reliable and committed.
Comfortable taking initiative.
Able to work collaboratively.
Good communicators.
Willing to share ideas and listen to others.
Comfortable working in a developing organisation where things will evolve.
Able to bring either professional experience, specialist knowledge, community experience or valuable networks.
Committed to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding.
Excited by Urban Youth's vision of taking youth work into the heart of London.
You do not need to have experience in every area listed above.
We are building a diverse leadership team with complementary skills.
Bring what you're good at. Bring what you've learned. Bring your ideas.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to get involved in an impactful charity making a tangible difference to the lives of refugees here in the UK.
Our work is simple – we refurbish unwanted bikes and donate them to refugees and people seeking asylum, many living on less than £7 a day, giving them freedom and independence whilst they rebuild their lives.
A bike makes a huge difference – not only is it a practical tool for tackling poverty, those who receive bikes from us report they are more connected in their community, happier and healthier as a result:
91% of people use their bikes weekly for essential journeys
84% of people are better able to access legal and other vital support services
93% report better physical and/or mental health
Alongside our core Bike Donations Programme, we support refugee women to learn to cycle through our Pedal Power Programme; provide ongoing support with bike maintenance through our Repair or Replace Programme; and offer the opportunity for connection and friendship through our volunteer-matching Bike Buddy Programme.
“The Bike Project has given me so much more than just a bicycle — it has given me confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging. Receiving a bike as a gift allowed me to feel free in society, explore my community, and even join a cycling group where I’ve met wonderful people.
Thank you again for everything you do. Your work changes lives, including mine.”
Ladan, Bike Recipient
About You and the Role
You don’t need to have experience of being on a Board. In fact, the role would be ideal for someone considering taking on their first role as a trustee. We will work with you to understand your duties as a trustee and support you.
You will, however, have experience of one of more of priority areas we are looking for:
You will be joining a highly committed group of trustees who give their time, expertise and contacts to support the charity. Our trustees are critical in enabling us to thrive and this role plays a key role in supporting the wider board to fulfil its financial responsibilities.
You will work together with the wider staff team to set our strategic direction and improve our work with refugees. At the heart of everything we do is the real and immediate impact a bike makes to the lives of those who have been through so much. You will be part of us achieving that.
The time commitment for a trustee generally totals approximately 8 hours per month. Please see the role description for further details.
Application Process
Deadline for Applications: Friday 28 August 2026
