VOLUNTEER BRANCH CHAIR/COORDINATOR

Across the UK, our 60+ local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Our network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests each year to design and make customised equipment free of charge.

As your local Chair or Coordinator, you’ll take the lead in making sure your local branch works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct, and support other branch volunteers to make sure your branch’s activities meet the needs of your local disabled community.

You’ll bring your leadership, communication, organisation, and motivational skills to this role.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local need shapes what you’ll be working on, but it often includes:

•  Coordinating the activities of our local branch to undertake and meet the needs of  referrals in your area

• Coordinating and chairing the branch meetings

• Leading the branch’s shared responsibility for planning and completing referrals

• Coordinating the recruitment, induction, and ongoing support of new local branch volunteers

• Working with your Treasurer or Finance Officer to approve branch accounts

• Ensuring the branch’s activities comply with policies to keep people safe

• Regularly communicate and act as a key contact between staff and volunteers

What you’ll need for this role

Essential

• Confident in leading and chairing a meeting

• Confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email

• Willingness to attend local events to promote the charity’s work

• Ability to understand and follow external and internal policies and procedures

• Able to keep people’s personal details safe

• Willing to follow Remap policies and procedures – and a commitment to our values

Desirable

• Confident in communicating with different audiences, including decision-makers and volunteers

• Able to delegate and motivate the activities of others

• Enthusiastic about raising awareness of the charity’s work in the local area

• Willingness to develop skills and experience

You’ll also need to complete the induction checklist and reference check, and you may need a DBS check if you also have another client facing role.

From elderly moggies to energic kittens, every day across the UK cats and kittens are in need of a temporary place to stay, and lots of love and TLC! We need more fosterers like you to provide a safe, temporary haven for cats and kittens and provide them with everything they need before they get their chance to land on their four paws and make a house a home.

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend around one and a half hours per day (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care.

A bit about this role

As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

You'll be

• help set up and/or man stalls at events
• help on collection days like supermarket collections events or street collections
• help at fundraising events such as quiz nights, cake sales and dances
• promoting a professional image of Cats Protection at events

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

• following policies and guidelines and ensuring licences and permits are obtained for events

Time expectation

Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role – you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example:

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 
• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations
• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press
• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork
• championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
• photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection
• You’ll need to be aged 18+ to volunteer in this role. If you’re aged 16-17, you’ll need to be supervised by a friend, family member, or guardian over the age of 18 in order to carry out any fundraising activity.

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

Children of Voices is a hugely respected charitable organisation helping to improve the lives of young people and their families through genuine care, love, and support.  

We are currently seeking a volunteer PR & Marketing Manager. This role is ideal for an individual with previous experience in a PR/Marketing role looking to work within the charity sector. 

Responsibilities typically include: 

Writing and editing social media content, press releases, CWV guidelines, leaflets, speeches, newsletters and website content 

Utilising social media to maintain and manage the CWV image 

Representing CWV at events/presentations/meetings 

Owning and managing communications related to CWV’s online and offline presence 

Developing good working relationships with the media

overseeing and approving all social media content produced by social media team 

This position is open to anyone with a keen interest in Friends of the Earth and our local campaigns in the borough of Camden. We are looking for people interested in environmental and sustainability issues and environmental justice in the Camden community who enjoy organising and running campaigns. We’re open to new ideas for campaigns so you’re free to be as creative as you’d like!

We are a small charity exploring how simple AI tools can help us work more efficiently and focus on what really matters.

We’re looking for a friendly volunteer to help us take our first steps with AI in a safe, ethical, and practical way. This role is supportive and practical, not technical or developer-focused.

You’ll help us understand and use everyday AI tools in ways that genuinely support our work. This may include exploring simple ways AI could help with admin, communications, fundraising, or planning; showing staff and volunteers how AI tools work in plain English; recommending easy-to-use tools such as ChatGPT, Canva, or Microsoft tools; creating short how-to notes or example prompts; supporting small trials of AI tools and helping us learn what works; and encouraging responsible, ethical use of AI that fits our values.

You don’t need to be an AI expert or have coding skills. Enthusiasm and a helpful approach are more important

The Cathedral Safeguarding Committee acts as ‘critical friend’ and provides constructive challenge to the Chapter of Worcester Cathedral regarding the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. Its role is to support Chapter in meeting their safeguarding obligations for the Cathedral and its activities, including safer recruitment, and to provide assurance to Chapter that the Cathedral’s safeguarding arrangements are fit for purpose.

The duties and responsibilities of the Safeguarding Committee are laid down in the Safeguarding Committee Terms of Reference.

Responsibilities

• to provide independent perspectives on safeguarding policy and practice at Worcester Cathedral.
• to work with the chair and Cathedral staff to ensure that the Cathedral’s safeguarding functions are being carried out effectively.
• to offer support and challenge to executive members of the committee to ensure the centrality of a robust safeguarding culture in the Cathedral’s mission and its operations.
• to take a full part in Safeguarding Committee meetings and in agreeing and monitoring of strategic and operational plans to ensure effective performance and achievement of national standards.

Commitment 

Meetings: The Safeguarding Committee meets formally 4 times per year (usually during the daytime, although times may vary). The duration of meetings is a maximum of two hours.

Papers are received in advance and all members of the Safeguarding Committee are expected to have read the papers and be prepared to contribute as needed to discussion.

Expenses can be claimed for attendance at meetings or carrying out functions on behalf of the Committee.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential

1. Recent, direct and extensive professional safeguarding experience and expertise at a senior level in a relevant statutory, voluntary or judicial agency (for example Local Authority Children and Adult Service, Police, National Children’s Charity).
2. A willingness to promote and represent as needed the work of the Safeguarding Committee in the Cathedral and outside.

Desirable

1. Experience of child or adult safeguarding in a church / faith context.
2. Experience of case reviews, risk management and engagement and leadership of strategic partnerships.

Skills, competencies and abilities

Essential

1. Experience of analysing complex situations and advising appropriately.
2. Experience of working constructively with a wide range of parties, including staff in the statutory and voluntary sectors.
3. Experience of dealing sensitively and appropriately with confidential information.

Personal Qualities

Essential

1. A strong commitment to safeguarding as an essential part of the Cathedral’s work.
2. To be supportive of the mission and ministry of the Church of England and the vision and values of Worcester Cathedral. This does not mean that attendance at or membership of any Church of England worshipping community is required.

• Disseminating relevant organisation-wide information and updates to the branch volunteers
• Supporting engagement and communication between the branch and wider organisation
• Drafting committee meeting agendas and taking and sharing meeting minutes
• Supporting the efficient running of the branch by ensuring administration processes are carried out effectively
• Supporting the administration and update of the branch annual plan 
• Sign-posting queries from members of the public
• Keeping branch records and information up to date and secure, using Cats Protection systems – training will be provided

Time expectation

Our support volunteers usually spend 2-5 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

• ordering, collecting and delivering cat-related supplies, for example, food, litter, medical supplies
• communicating with the public, offering support with cat ownership or lost and found cats
• supporting the volunteer neutering team

Time expectation

Our Cat Welfare Support volunteers typically volunteer for two to four hours per week. This role is flexible and can fit around your other commitments.
