Day Centre Assistant & Companion

What You’ll Do

Support staff and clients at the Mabel Churn Centre to create a warm, welcoming environment for older people living with dementia. You’ll help with social activities and mealtimes to ensure the day runs smoothly.

You will:

· Chat and engage with clients to build a friendly atmosphere

· Encourage and support participation in activities (e.g. arts, music)

· Set up tables and help serve meals and drinks

· Clear tables and keep the space clean and tidy

· Communicate with staff about client needs or concerns

Skills You’ll Use or Develop

· Comfortable supporting older people, including those with dementia

What you'll be doing

You'll join a collaborative, supportive board that works closely with our leadership team to ensure Merton's voluntary, community and faith sector continues to thrive.

Make a meaningful difference by becoming a friendly visitor for a gentleman in his early 70s who, while non-verbal, is active, engaged, and enjoys simple pleasures. He loves doing jigsaws, reading gardening magazines, and watching television. This is a “stop and stay” role where you’ll spend relaxed, quality time together helping with a jigsaw, sharing quiet moments, and offering companionship.

This is a Stop and Stay visit role, meaning that the person you’ll be visiting might have some verbal communication skills or they use sounds and/or facial/body expressions to communicate with you.fr

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tend to be around half an hour to an hour long.

In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like:

• Sitting and having a chat
• Checking in on their well- being
• A craft activity at home
• Reading a book/magazine together

As a Mencap volunteer visitor you will be:

Eczema Outreach Support (EOS) is a UK-wide charity supporting children and young people with eczema and their families. We want to make sure that no child’s future is lost to eczema. We are a small team making a big impact and we couldn’t do this without the support and expertise of our trustees.

We are looking for four new trustees to join our dynamic team to lead EOS as it moves into the second year of our current organisational strategy. Personal experience of eczema is not essential, however, a commitment to making the lives of families facing this unpredictable condition better is vital.

• Attend quarterly online Board Meetings in January, April, July and October. These usually take place on a weekday evening between 8pm and 9:45pm

• Attend the AGM, online, usually in the Autumn during a weekday evening

• Attend the annual away day (in-person, full day during the week).

Accommodation and travel expenses can be reimbursed. We also ask that all trustees are willing to join one sub-committee relevant to their areas of expertise and interests. Sub-committees usually meet once per quarter, online, at a time to suit members.

Where will you be based?

Trustee meetings, senior staff meetings and the AGM all take place online via Zoom. Our Away Day is usually an in-person event. Sub-committee meetings take place online via Zoom or Teams at a time that works for members.

What support will you get?

The Chair of the Board will support you in your role. You will also work closely with our CEO. You may be offered to attend relevant training courses and may attend a Board Meeting on a trial basis before committing to the role so you can learn more about EOS and how we operate.

Out of Pocket Expenses

As this is a voluntary role, you won’t be paid for your time, but we will reimburse all reasonable expenses in line with our Expenses Policy.

Safeguarding

EOS is committed to keeping everyone we work with safe. We have robust safeguarding policies and procedures in place and will provide you with training relevant to your role. If you ever have a concern about anyone you come into contact with during your volunteering, please speak to our CEO or the Chair of the Board immediately. Trustees are expected to complete some online safeguarding training.

General

To keep everyone safe and supported, all trustees must operate within EOS’s policies and guidelines relevant to their role. In particular, you must agree to and follow the EOS Code of Conduct for Trustees. At the start of every Board Meeting, trustees are also asked to declare any conflicts of interest.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head of Fundraising to lead and develop our fundraising strategy at a crucial time in Youth Advantage UK's growth. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll oversee a multi-disciplinary fundraising team and play a key role in shaping our strategy to secure the resources needed to support our mission.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraising leader who is ready to take on a leadership position, mentor a growing team, and make a tangible impact on the lives of those we serve. You will be instrumental in driving fundraising across diverse channels, from major donor cultivation to digital fundraising and events.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and Execute Fundraising Strategy – Develop and drive a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes grant fundraising and aligns with the organisation’s mission and financial goals.
• Manage Fundraising Teams – Provide leadership to Fundraising Managers and the Partnerships Lead, ensuring successful delivery across all fundraising channels.
• Build Relationships with Major Donors – Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key donors, stakeholders, and potential partners to secure long-term support.
• Oversee Fundraising Events – Lead and support the planning, execution, and evaluation of fundraising events that engage donors and raise critical funds.
• Digital Fundraising – Oversee online giving campaigns and strategies to increase digital fundraising engagement and revenue.
• Reporting and Budgeting – Monitor fundraising progress, ensuring targets are met, and provide regular reports to the CEO and Board.
• Team Development – Mentor and coach the fundraising team, ensuring they are motivated, developed, and equipped to excel in their roles.
• Strategic Partnerships – Build and nurture community partnerships that expand our reach and increase funding.
• Brand Advocacy – Act as a passionate ambassador for the charity, enhancing its visibility in the charity sector and promoting its mission.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a dynamic leader with the skills and experience to make a positive impact. You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

• Proven experience in fundraising, with a strong track record across digital campaigns, corporate partnerships and grant fundraising.
• Leadership experience in managing and developing fundraising teams or volunteers.
• A strategic mindset with the ability to think big and execute effectively in a resource-constrained environment.
• Hands-on experience in managing the day-to-day operations of fundraising campaigns while being able to step back and think at a strategic level.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse stakeholders.
• A passion for the cause – a genuine belief in the mission of Youth Advantage UK and a commitment to making a difference.
• Familiarity with digital fundraising tools and social media platforms for promoting campaigns (desirable but not essential).
• Previous experience in volunteer-led organisations is a bonus.
• Remote working experience or comfort with managing teams virtually.
