An exciting opportunity as Convenor of the Ethos Group is available to support the formation of new resources for the Methodist Church.
The Ethos Group is charged with scrutinising draft materials (physical or digital) to ensure that what the Church says is authentically Methodist, and has the authority to recommend whether or not each piece of work is something that we should be doing or publishing.
To fulfil its purpose, the Ethos Group requires a Convenor. Expressions of interest are invited from ordained and lay members of the Methodist Church in Britain.
The Ethos Group is crucial for ensuring diversity in the Church’s resources, and so aims to demonstrate diversity amongst its membership. We particularly welcome applications from minority ethnic members of the Church.

About you
- An ordained or lay member of the Methodist Church.
- Theological qualification desirable.
- Familiar with the strategies and their theological background shaping the Methodist Church, such as God for All.
- Knowledge of Methodist procedures and Conference decisions.
- Ability to recognise needs for further consultation with those outside the group eg Secretary of Faith and Order Committee, the Conference Office.
- Ability to communicate accurately and with sensitivity to other members of the group and to originators of material.
- Hold a concern for Methodist identity and values.
- Relish making an important contribution to the justice-seeking, inclusive, evangelistic and growing purposes of the Church.
Duration
For an initial term not exceeding three years in the first instance, which may be extended for a further period of one or more years thereafter.
Time Commitment
A commitment of around 2–8 hours per month, depending on the number and extent of resources.

We are seeking new members to join our Audit & Risk Assurance Committee (ARAC), a trusted and hard‑working body that plays a vital role in supporting strong governance and accountability in the Church. The Committee reports to the Connexional Council, the trustee body of the Methodist Church in Great Britain.
This is an opportunity to use your gifts in a new way, helping to safeguard the Church’s mission, resources and reputation for the benefit of current and future generations
About You
We are looking for people who bring personal qualities and ways of working as much as formal expertise. You are likely to:
- Be thoughtful, curious and discerning, with the ability to see the bigger picture as well as attend to important detail
- Have a strong sense of integrity and a commitment to transparency, accountability and good stewardship
- Be confident in offering constructive challenge, while remaining respectful, collaborative and supportive
- Act as a “critical friend”, combining independence of thought with loyalty to the Church and its mission
- Be able to listen carefully, weigh evidence, and exercise sound judgement, particularly in complex or sensitive matters
- Be comfortable working in a committee setting, valuing different perspectives and contributing positively to group decision‑making
- Share a commitment to equality, inclusion and the wellbeing of the whole Connexion
Alongside these attributes, we are particularly interested in people who either:
- Have a lived understanding of the day‑to‑day life of the Church (for example as a minister or lay person at church, circuit or district level);
- Bring insight into IT, digital, cyber security or AI‑related matters, helping the Committee to navigate emerging risks and opportunities in a fast‑changing environment, and/or
- Have a background in risk, finance or audit.
You do not need to be an expert in all areas. What matters most is your mindset, values and willingness to engage thoughtfully with complex governance issues.

We support older people across the county through vital services including befriending, information and advice, dementia support, practical help at home, and welfare benefits support - helping people stay independent, connected, and supported.

About the Role
We are looking for enthusiastic and confident Charity Ambassadors who are passionate about giving back to their community and making a difference, to help raise awareness of our work. This is a rewarding and flexible role, ideal for individuals who enjoy meeting new people and speaking in public.
As a Charity Ambassador, you will represent Age UK Buckinghamshire at a range of events and settings such as community groups, Rotary Clubs, Church groups, and other local events and venues. You will help raise awareness of the support available to older people, providing information about our services and how people can access advice, practical help, and companionship when they need it.
You will also share the impact of our work by bringing it to life through real examples and stories, helping others understand the real difference this support makes to older people’s lives. By demonstrating this impact, you will highlight why support through fundraising, volunteering, and partnership opportunities is so important in helping us reach more people in need.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging presentations and talks about Age UK Buckinghamshire’s work
- Represent the charity at community events, meetings, and local groups
- Help raise awareness of services available to older people
- Promoting planned fundraising initiatives and activities.
- Thank and recognise supporters and fundraisers within the community
- Assist in reviewing, adapting, and improving presentation materials (e.g. PowerPoint slides)
- Act as a positive and professional ambassador for the organisation

Time commitment
This is a flexible role to suit your availability. Charity Ambassadors will be contacted as appropriate and offered the opportunity to attend events to which we are invited. Talks and events may be delivered alongside another volunteer or staff member, or occasionally independently.
Training & Support
All Charity Ambassadors will receive training, resources, and guidance to help them feel confident in delivering presentations and representing the charity. This will include opportunities to shadow our services and gain a deeper understanding of the support we provide to older people.
