Cards for Bravery is a volunteer-led charity dedicated to improving the emotional wellbeing of hospitalised, seriously ill and chronically ill children and young people across the UK. We provide a range of services including the distribution of items such as handmade cards, activity packs, care packages and other initiatives designed to bring comfort, connection and support during difficult times.

As we continue to grow, we're looking for an organised and enthusiastic Events Coordinator to help plan and coordinate our community events and awareness activities.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys organising, planning and bringing people together. Working closely with the Founder and the wider team, you'll help ensure our events run smoothly, creating positive experiences for volunteers, supporters and the communities we work with.

A DBS Check will be required for this role, completed by the charity.

Candidates must hold a relevant laptop/tablet or other IT device to complete this role.

Any relevant expenses will be reimbursed.

Role Overview

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Volunteers to join our new drop in group in Sherborne, Dorset that take place on 10 am to 12 pm pm on the last Wednesday of the month starting 24th Sept. This role is ideal for individuals looking to make a meaningful impact in the community while gaining valuable experience.

The Say Aphasia charity provides support groups across the UK for people with aphasia; a language and communication disability caused by a brain injury like a stroke. Aphasia affects over 350,000 people in the UK but is little understood or known about by the public. It is the only aphasia charity set up by people with aphasia for people with aphasia; helping them to adapt to their new way of life and regain their independence and confidence.

Aphasia occurs due to injury to the brain such as a stroke. It affects access to language, resulting in difficulties following conversations, speaking, reading and writing.

Volunteers will support the running of the group with communicating, and will have the opportunity to utilise their communication skills and IT knowledge to take a register of attendance.

Responsibilities

• Provide companionship and support to individuals, particularly those living with asphasia.
• Assist in organising activities that promote social interaction and engagement.
• Communicate effectively with participants, ensuring their needs are understood and met.
• Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
• Collaborate with other volunteers to enhance the group.

Qualifications

• An understanding or knowledge in aphasia is desirable but not essential (training will be given)
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
• Proficiency in IT, including familiarity with common software applications.
• A compassionate and patient attitude towards individuals in need of support.

As a Bank Volunteer Event Assistant, you will support One YMCA at a variety of fundraising, community and engagement events throughout the year. The Beacon Project is a community-focused programme providing confidential advice, connection, and learning opportunities for residents in the World’s End area. Through weekly coffee mornings, group sessions, and a befriending service that matches individuals with friendly Connectors for regular meet-ups, Beacon helps reduce isolation and build meaningful local relationships. We also offer free, practical support on issues such as benefits and housing, helping people understand their options and access the advice they need. The programme is delivered as a partnership between Family Friends and Nucleus Legal Advice Centre.

About the Role 

As our Community Engagement and Support Volunteer, you will be the first friendly face people meet. This role is perfect for someone approachable, confident, community-minded, and who enjoys connecting with others. You will help create a welcoming, inclusive environment where residents feel comfortable accessing support and getting involved in community activities. 

What You Will Be Doing

As a volunteer, you will welcome residents and help them feel comfortable accessing the project and its services. Our volunteers support residents from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. While most residents speak English, many community members speak other languages, including Arabic, Spanish and French. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, and additional language skills are an advantage, but are not essential.

How will I be ending homelessness?

As a Health & Wellbeing Support Volunteer, you will use your professional skills and experience to support Crisis members in accessing healthcare and overcoming some of the barriers that people experiencing homelessness can face when engaging with health services.  

You will also play a key role in supporting the delivery of health and wellbeing services at Skylight. By helping to organise activities, workshops and health-related events, maintaining accurate records, and building positive relationships with local healthcare providers and partner organisations, you will contribute to improving members' access to healthcare and opportunities that support their overall wellbeing. 

The role is varied and rewarding, combining administration, research, communication and event coordination. You may support the team by contacting healthcare organisations, gathering information about local services, assisting with referrals, helping to organise and facilitate health and wellbeing events, and ensuring staff and members have the information and resources they need to achieve positive outcomes and move towards ending homelessness.
