Volunteer Admissions Assistant

You'll be multitasking throughout the day, with a mix of responsibilities including customer service, ticket sales, promoting Gift Aid donations, shop duties, guiding visitors and providing information about the Museum and the collection. If you enjoy a fast-paced environment and love engaging with people, this is the role for you. 

The Volunteer Admissions Assistant role is all about making a lasting impression and creating a memorable visitor experience. You’ll be:

• Welcoming and engaging with visitors, sharing information about the museum and its collection.
• Selling tickets and gift shop items, ensuring smooth transactions and great customer service.
• Collecting data for Gift Aid and marketing purposes, including how visitors found out about us.
• Creating positive experiences to encourage return visits and word-of-mouth recommendations.
• Helping visitors explore the Museum through interpretation, answering questions and distributing trails, accessibility and family activities.
• Maintaining the gift shop, including restocking, counting stock, and setting up attractive displays.
• Conducting online research and building contact lists to support marketing efforts.
• Promoting the Museum locally, raising awareness and encouraging more visitors to discover what we have to offer!

Who we’re looking for:

We’d like to extend an invitation to anyone, particularly members of the local community.  Full training will be provided, we are looking for anyone with:

• Great customer service skills – you will be friendly and confident about approaching visitors of all ages and backgrounds
• Great communication skills – you will be able to clearly explain information about the Museum and ticketing to visitors
• Good computer skills – with training, you will be able to use our ticketing system, email and Microsoft Office
• Good Sales Skills – you will be able to promote ticket sales and gift shop items as well as encouraging Gift Aid donations
• Multitasking skills – with various responsibilities such as selling tickets, guiding visitors, and managing the gift shop, you will be able to juggle tasks efficiently
• A good telephone manner
• Good team working skills

This role offers plenty of variety, and you'll play an important part in making every visitor's experience unforgettable.

Training and support:

All volunteers will first be invited for a training shift.  We have an induction and training process, during which we give volunteers the information they need to enjoy their time with us. Training is mainly 'on the job', supported by an experienced volunteer as well as the manager on duty. Volunteers are given regular feedback and we remain open to suggestions on how we can improve the volunteer experience. The Admissions Assistant receives continued training and development throughout their time with us.

Availability:

We are looking for volunteers who would ideally like to donate 2-4 shifts per month, weekdays or weekends, either as a 10-1.30pm shift, or a 1.30-5pm shift, for a minimum of 3 months. Ideally, you will be able to start immediately, although this is not essential. Travel expenses up to £5 will be paid, with up to an additional £5 for lunch expenses if you are on a full day shift.

Please note: Applicants from some overseas countries are required to have a relevant work permit or student visa to volunteer in the U.K. We’ll need to see this for our records before volunteering can commence.

Support the delivery of creative arts and crafts activities that encourage young people to express themselves, develop new skills, and build confidence. Volunteers will help facilitate activities such as painting, drawing, sculpture, crafts, and themed creative projects while creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. You will encourage participation, celebrate creativity, and help young people explore their ideas in a fun and supportive space.

Uniform Manager

Challenge Adventure Group (“CAG” for short and the operating name of CAG Trust) is a voluntary youth organisation for Knowle, Dorridge and beyond aimed at boys aged 10 and above.

As our name suggests, we provide challenging, adventurous and fun activities and the D of E Award for young people in their leisure time. Taking part in fun experiential activities enables members to develop their physical and mental skills and capacities and reach their full potential of becoming positive, active and happy citizens.

Summary

CAG was formed in 2009 and became a charity, CAG Trust, in 2019.  We have a distinctive uniform for meeting nights and for when we’re out and about on trips.  We are proud of our branding and both members and leaders enjoy wearing our variety of rugby-style shirts, cosy fleeces, soft shell jackets and hats.

When we do really special trips, like our legendary ski trip, we design a uniform specifically for that event - it’s different each time and serves as a reminder of what an awesome time was had by all participants.  All our uniform is high quality, long lasting and is built to withstand all our challenging adventures whether it be indoor climbing or scaling Snowdon.

We are looking for a volunteer to monitor and organise uniform orders, log and chase payments and distribute to / from suppliers and to / from members.

Description

Responsibilities:

• Carry out an annual audit of the uniform stock and liaise with the Treasurer and Membership Secretary to ensure that there are enough supplies available for each age group / size.

• Keep the uniform stock tidy and in good order by ensuring everything is in the right place.

• Maintain an inventory of items and keep track of numbers sold and numbers required.

• Research and source suppliers selling good quality, hardwearing kit.

• Ensure that suppliers are providing good value for money.

• Monitor and organise uniform orders in good time to restock supplies.

• Liaise with the Membership Secretary to remain aware of new members and their uniform requirements.

• Log and chase payments in conjunction with the Treasurer.

• Communicate frequently with the Group Leader and CAG Management Committee to keep them up to date.

We are looking for a volunteer who ideally should have / be:

• Commitment to CAG and its ethos.

• Organised and tidy.

• Self-motivated, proactive and good at managing your own time.

• The ability to build and maintain relationships.

About you
We're looking for a volunteer with confident, hands-on knowledge of monday.com (day-to-day use and administration experience are both welcome), alongside experience delivering training or coaching in a workplace setting, whether formal or informal. You'll be able to explain technical concepts clearly and patiently to people with varying levels of confidence, and you'll bring a warm, encouraging style to every interaction. You'll be self-motivated and comfortable working independently with light-touch coordination from the team. Familiarity with monday.com automations and integrations, or experience with charity or NGO operations, would be a bonus, but neither is essential. Most importantly, you'll share our belief that every child belongs in a family, and you'll be excited to play your part in making that happen.
 
About Hope and Homes for Children
Orphanages don't protect children, they harm them. Put simply: the last thing an orphanage can provide is the first thing a child needs - someone to love them. Science shows what we all know, that the bond between a child and their family is vital for their development. Decades of evidence proves that orphanages harm children, subjecting them to high levels of abuse and extreme neglect. Today, over 5.4 million children are confined to orphanages worldwide, and more than 80% of them are not orphans at all. Children always belong in families. Time commitment: Flexible: estimated 3–4 days per month initially, reducing to ad hoc as staff become more confident. Minimum commitment of 6 months.

What you will be doing

• Undertaking shop related tasks agreed with the Manager, for example:
• Selecting, sorting, and pricing donated stock.
• Researching valuable and vintage stock.
• Photographing and listing items for the online shop.
• Describing items for online listings.
• Preparing items for postage and dispatch .
• This role may include occasionally lifting boxes. We prioritise a safe working environment and provide comprehensive health and safety training to all volunteers.
